I am a freshman at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. I just finished up my semester and now I’m beginning my transfer essay so I can get into Michigan State University. This video couldn’t have came out at a better time, thanks for this info!

Is wanting to transfer because you commute a good reason to? I currently go to UCI but near my whole life, I’ve been near the same people, the same lifestyle, and always inside this bubble. When I was able to travel to NY to meet my other friends I was amazed. Realizing the different lifestyle they led made me want to explore that also outside of my bubble. The problem is if I just write about that, it could apply to any school that is not near home so I don’t know if it’s a good reason

Thank you so much! This really helped Mme start an outline and idea for what I want to write. How do I seperate the first two initial questions? One asks why I am transferring and the other what I hope to do and achieve in the new one along with exploring the community.

Hi, sorry to bother but I had a general personal statement question and you seem to be pretty good at responding to comments so here goes... I was wondering if you had any tips for conveying the value of "fun"? I really value quality time I spend with others and I tried to illustrate this by showing how I quickly bonded with someone over a game they invented, but it seems to just read like a happy story instead of conveying how important I think bonding with others is. Thanks for all the free resources, they've been invaluable in my journey.

So, (hypothetically speaking, of course):) Student is currently at a well-respected university but his #2 choice. Doing very well academically but the Greek system is not his jam, among other social constraints. Originally waitlisted at 1st choice but ultimately not chosen. Womp, womp. So,his entire original freshman-year application is on hand at potential transfer school. So, does he sort of recreate his original essays (adding new reasons/relevant info, of course) under the assumption they won’t revisit his initial essays, or write entirely new stories? Probably school specific but curious your initial thoughts.

There's a possibility the readers would revisit his previously submitted materials, so I would recommend altering the original essays with more recent updates + context if you're going to reuse them at all.
