Nothing is stopping me from writing a novel because I wasn’t interested in writing one until after this video. May not be November anymore but I’ll consider it. Novel in a month seems fun. 😅

Stephen King's advice to write every day to 'keep your narrative edge sharp' is true. It's also known as a work ethic. If you write a page a day why stop at one; starting a second one almost always results in writing four or five. If you tire of what you're writing and start to hate it KEEP ON WRITING, your temporary malaise will pass, usually in a day.

For sure. There's advice that's sometimes attributed to Stephen King (I think he said a version of it), but I read it from painter Chuck Close: "Inspiration is for amateurs - the rest of us just show up and get to work."

I was so excited for NaNoWriMo this year 2024. It was the first one I have ever committed to and had been planning for months to participate. Then my wife had our wonderful second daughter, and the word count just was not happening. I had a blast working and writing. Your channel and videos have encouraged me to keep trying even if it’s Dec, Jan, or whenever. I loved the process, and want to make something of my own to share. Thanks for your videos!

@ thank you! After watching another one of your videos I decided to start writing short stories to know what finishing a story feels like before tackling my bigger story ideas. So far I have completed my first short story and the momentum has been great!

Maybe you'll have to do your own personal NaNoWriMo in March or something, then you'll get an extra day, too!

I think the official nanowrimo recently applied rules that allow using AI. Any other contests or organizations out there? Besides taking it up on our own, of course.

Oh interesting. I'm not sure!

There's a guy who wrote a novel in a month, which was made into a screenplay within a year after publishing. The author's method: "10 pages a day for a month? I can do that." 😉
