Howdy.
If you are reading this, I hope you're about to start writing your paper. ;)
I was a university student for six years and during my time I learned a lot of tips and tricks. I hope this video allowed me to share with you those tips in a way that will influence your paper writing process.
Good luck :)

what's stressing me out the most is the citation part. i will find a fitting source with all the information i need, but then i'll see the researcher quoting a trillion other papers and authors and then i'll have to search those up to get to the info i need. citations are the bane of my existence

So here's the best part of this advice: Once you figure out your issue with procrastinating, this method of preparation and working is very very effective. Get yourself into a zone and just write. Don't sit not being able to write, prep and then send it. My personal experience shows that, if you're trying to write a high quality paper (and you have time of course), writing as much as you can as quickly as you can is good, because once you have everything written your ideas are available and not just stewing in your head. Then, go to bed, and when you wake up you can read through the paper, polish it, rewrite it etc. Do this in sections, 3-5 pages at a time if it's super long. That's my method.

Although I didn't write many papers (biochem), I followed a very similar process for the papers I wrote in college. I would add that writing as much as you can as soon as you can gives you many "sleeps" of revisions!

YES! I've made it to my senior year of college (as a 30 year old, since I started as an old man lol) and I write all of my large papers in one-sitting. I try to do it with a good week or at least a few days before it's due, then spend time going through sections of it revising and polishing. Works AMAZINGLY for not repeating or getting off topic as I seem to do when typing it over a period of time.

This is more of a method to lessen the amount of work you have to do last minute but I like to play “the game” with assignments. Every time you think about an upcoming assignment, you have to sit down and work on it for a few minutes. Getting started is often the hardest part and it’s much easier to finish an essay last minute than it is to start one even if you’d be writing the same amount either way

just want to say to take grammarly with a grain of salt - sometimes their edits don't understand the context of what you have written and will suggest things that will actually make your correct sentence incorrect

Watching this for funsies! (it was recommended to me) Here's my story: 3 years ago I was a PhD student in biomedical science, and I had to write a mock NIH grant for a class. It should be 3 months of work but I procrastinated and had only 1 month to do it. Unfortunately, I ended up failing even though I had a month. The problem was 1. I was not familiar with the writing structure; 2. I did not understand a lot on the subject oc the research related to my topic so I needed extra time just to digest everything; 3. I was so short on time I did not have someone read over my second half of my grant paper (which was probably the reason I failed - because what I wrote wasn't logically scientific). Extra things like being a L2 speaker of English and having bad relationships with my then thesis mentor really didn't help in my case. I am no longer in academia. I stayed in the science field (it was easier to find a job with my work experiences) but I come to a situation where I actively avoid taking any tasks that require writing reports or papers in general. I've considered going back to school but my confidence level wasn't wrecked from previous failures.

Very interesting video, I’ll try some of these! I’m a big ole procrastinator too but something that’s been helping me is starting way early on papers and knocking out steps super far ahead of the deadline.

Great video! The ending notes were superb! I think everyone should listen to that part esp because you emphasise how normal it is to procrastinate and not to beat yourself up, and to recognise the hard work you put into your work despite how late it is and lacking edits. That's such a fantastic mindset and approach to a challenging situation that has already happened/you're already in. LPT if u ask me.

I love how you broke this down into bite sized chunks and gave a lot of structure! I highly recommend "Avoiding Toxic Productivity Advice for ADHD" if you want more tips like this. "Now peppery", I hear you saying "I don't have ADHD. I'm just lazy and a procrastinator, so I have to force myself to hyperfocus" If you're watching this video you probably have ADHD. Like seriously, do you think normal people just don't struggle with this cause they're good workers? They aren't, they're neurotypical. They got taught the rules for making their brain work. If you're an adult and still trying to learn how your brain works, you're probably Neurodivergent like me. Welcome! Listen, working on things last minute like this isn't super healthy. I'm glad you're addressing it. Maybe you rely on deadlines to get motivated? Do you pour all your energy into things when they captivate you, or challenge you? Do you love your creative work but when you have to do it for school it's impossible to start? Are you a perfectionist? Former gifted kid? I've been in all these situations and get myself back caught in them constantly. For me, it's ADHD. Worth exploring PS, if you're a woman in high school or college you're under the average age for diagnosis. Godspeed with that info.

hi maddison, I'm in my final year of high school so I'm currently picking which universities to go to and as a procrastinator myself your videos are super inspiring and give me hope that I can get trough university without having to change my entire persona. It makes me very excited about next year, so I really want to thank you for that! These are the videos that have an impact, not like watching all these short clips of influencers who have their live planned out to every second, and find energy to do things like workout everyday at six am, they might make you momentarily motivated, but then you realize how unattainable it is, and it just demotivates you because you feel like a failure... its easy for me to relate to you, so I'm way more optimistic about my future.

So it's Sunday, and this is how my first two days back are going to go. Monday: Calculus Test (the last test before our final exam, then we are moving on to AP content!), Pre-Calc 12 test (Yeah, I'm taking calc and pre calc...) Tuesday: English Test, English Assignment (creative writing), and I need to have a book finished by then. I also have a report due next week in bio and I have to submit a plan for my capstone project. I'm also having my calculus 12 final exam this week... I'm about halfway through my book, and I have 110 more pages to read. I haven't even started my assignment, and I haven't studied for my English test at all. The only good thing about this is that I'm fairly good at math so I don't really have to worry about those as much. I used yesterday to study for both of my math tests and I feel confident.

speechify is great for getting thru readings quickly as well! its really helpful when i have a bunch of assigned shit to read and i'd rather not even look at them lol. especially my senior seminar classes with multiple books a week. listening to them during my long commute or while doing other tasks really helps me power thru them, especially if u can manage to shell out $ for the premium voice so u can play at faster speeds.

Hi! Unfortunately I don’t have any solutions for that outside of trying different breathing exercises. Whenever it’s the last minute for assignments there isn’t a whole lot you can do besides get it done to the best of your ability. Maybe there is room for some peace in mind in that statement, but I could never find it. :/ good luck

Honestly you just have to force yourself to do things when you don’t want to do them long before deadlines. Some people say setting preliminary deadlines help them but I’ve never seen success with that method personally. Only doing things in advanced just because :/

I love your content. It is good you are getting a higher education. I am a PhD candidate in Boca Raton, FL finishing in August 2023. I will just ask as I would usually ask on Instragram but you don't have one. By chance are you single or available? You are extremely beautiful and it is dreadful in modern times to meet an educated and beautiful woman so I figured why not just be straightforward and ask here.
