Writing a Research Proposal for a PhD application is extremely difficult but this can be made easy by critically planning and reading a lot of research papers, mostly reviews that delve into your target area of research. I think it's very important to have an idea or identify a problem you want to solve or add a better understanding to in which you are passionate about before you start reading and planning.
I hope you find this video useful but here is my guide on how to write a good research proposal.
PLAN PLAN PLAN
- Start with the idea.
- Read round the topic and brainstorm.
WRITING
- Short descriptive title of the project (a title in which the reader can straight away identify the direction of the research proposal)
- A structured chronological aims section (almost to act as anabstract so the reader knows straight away what specific questions you are going to be answering)
- Introduction (giving an overview of the general scope of research within the area of study, with sections on what has been achieved so far and where there are gaps in knowledge)
- Methodology (I would break this down into short sections with mini aims and objectives with complementing methods or experiments used to achieve the aims)
- Summary (pretty much identifying the greater implication of your research and also a chance for you to convey the importance)
- Timeline (a section for you to outline how long several aspects of the research will take)

Really liked this, thanks for creating this video. My only criticism is that the background music was very loud and distracting.

Hi Samuel! thanks for this! I was wondering exactly how much is a lot of reading? ~100 references?
@SamuelDada
@SamuelDada 3 жыл бұрын
You are very much welcome!! Well I would recommend no more than 50 references for the proposal 100 is way too much.

Dear brother, we need more information regarding what kind of fellowship we could apply, what are the expectations from an abstract, how to draft a background information, how to draft a novelty statement, how to point the research objectives, what is national and international status of the research, how to draft the work plan, how to figure out the research methodology, how to draft the scientific merits, how to draft the conclusion part. These are the information's everyone are looking for. Most of the videos they simply talk some useless things and time passing and marketing their institution which is so irritating. If you are kind of enough you shall make a new video by addressing all the above comments. God bless you.

I do understand your point and frustration with a lot of information out there. The majority bottleneck is doing a PhD requires you to research into something that is novel and if we share that information on this platform it could be extremely detrimental to our research, in terms of novelty and obtaining funding. I think when you are at the stage of writing a research proposal it’s important for you to have a conversation with the supervisor you would like to work with as they will be able to guide you on what is required for the application you are applying for. Every subject is different and the requirements are different it’s the same as publishing every journal requirements are different. Therefore you need to cater to their needs. I’m so sorry that this process is hugely frustrating, I have been there, just keep talking to people and gather as much information as you can.

@@SamuelDada Dear Samuel I can understand your concern. You no need to share your novel ideas. At least you can guide someone with any old research proposal which has been granted for fellowship at Cambridge. You can tell about any research theme which is irrelevant to your present research no issues. Any how you are presently getting funding so I hope sharing such information wont create any hindrance to your existing fellowship.
