Writing a Research Proposal for a PhD application is extremely difficult but this can be made easy by critically planning and reading a lot of research papers, mostly reviews that delve into your target area of research. I think it's very important to have an idea or identify a problem you want to solve or add a better understanding to in which you are passionate about before you start reading and planning.
I hope you find this video useful but here is my guide on how to write a good research proposal.
PLAN PLAN PLAN
- Start with the idea.
- Read round the topic and brainstorm.
WRITING
- Short descriptive title of the project (a title in which the reader can straight away identify the direction of the research proposal)
- A structured chronological aims section (almost to act as anabstract so the reader knows straight away what specific questions you are going to be answering)
- Introduction (giving an overview of the general scope of research within the area of study, with sections on what has been achieved so far and where there are gaps in knowledge)
- Methodology (I would break this down into short sections with mini aims and objectives with complementing methods or experiments used to achieve the aims)
- Summary (pretty much identifying the greater implication of your research and also a chance for you to convey the importance)
- Timeline (a section for you to outline how long several aspects of the research will take)
