My 10 minute PhD Interview Presentation - 10:05
PhD Interview experience - • How To Prepare For PhD...
Link to 5 minute presentation slides - docs.google.com/presentation/...
Interviews are hard in general, but there's something about PhD interviews that feel that little bit harder. This is possibly due to how competitive they are and how much is at stake in terms of funding. This is why it is important for you to evaluate deeply as to why you want to do a PhD. My advice is that if you have been invited for an interview, you are good enough, so go in with confidence and belief that you deserve the place. Prepare yourself for the general questions that will definitely be asked and read up on your current research project or past/favourite research project. Evaluate why you enjoyed it, the problems you faced and how you dealt with it, also think about things that you can improve on and how your past research experience will help in you being a successful PhD researcher.
Some interviews require you to deliver a 5 or 10 minute presentation on a current or previous research project you have been involved in. Its important that you keep the slides as simple and as visual as possible so the panellist can digest the information easily. Try and home in on the critical take home messages like the importance of the research, the key findings and the implications these may have. Take your time to answer the questions, trust me they want you to do well just remember that, relax, be honest, have faith and have confidence in yourself, ability and knowledge.
YOU GOT THIS!! All the best!!

Happy to see that you're back and that making these videos is something that brings you joy again ☺️ Just wanted to let you know that your videos helped me so much when I was applying for a research-based MPhil at Camb last fall - and I got in!!! Better believe I'll be bookmarking this video for when I will be facing the next challenge: applying for continuation to a PhD. Stay happy and healthy and know that you're really helping some of us by demystifying that whole application process ❤️

Some advice if you are a disabled applicant who has speech issues. Request that you can prerecord the interview and send it over to them. It's a lot more work to prepare and does need you to learn how to video edit and fumble over your words over and over again. But, it means you can make no mistakes and will not fumble with your words or have to repeat yourself if you where not properly heard so they can properly understand where you are coming across and you can use every second to focus on content as opposed to fumbling due to your speech.

So glad I've found this video! I've just been asked to deliver a 10 minute presentation on my "research experience to date". I've done internships, a masters and I'm now a RA at addenbrookes. Do you think I should focus on my current stuff or a more general look at everything? I'm terrified haha
@SamuelDada
@SamuelDada 2 жыл бұрын
Heya Carla!! Congratulations on the interview place!! Don’t be terrified at all you will be fine given all the research experience you clearly have to date. My advice to you is to focus on one research project, preferably your Masters as you have already completed that, so it should be straight forward in terms of discussion. My advice to you is to keep it tailored and focused, essentially less is more talk only about significant and key findings it’s always very tempting to put everything to show then that you have worked really hard but it’s so much better if you keep it simple and straight to the point so they have a take home message from your talk. I wish you all the best! 😊

Thanks for the helpful video. If I may, I want to give you a suggestion: It would be better and more effective If you write the key points on the screen while you are mentioning them. Maybe you are too busy to perform such a thing, but the impact will rise the views.
