I was learning a bit of armenian with an Assimil method book, because I will travel in Armenia this summer. I thougt I knew all the letters, both small and upper-case, and was proud of it because it was quiet hard to learn. Then I see your video, and your handwritten letters look COMPLETELY different of the block letters !!! I think I will never manage to read something in your country lol

berrybresteuh The block letters are different from handwritten. The block letters are harder to learn so you have done the hard part!

@@BeautySavesWorld Wow, never red your message, but it's never too late. Indeed, knowing how to read was really helpfull but still, it was quiet difficult to be understood. letters are not connected when writing?

There isn't a strict rule. One can write them connected or not connected. Both are correct.

So if we are speaking about Armenian handwriting I can say only one, every Armenian person write letters how it's fast and easy for him/her, f.e. my small letter ը is different, but I write letters connected, but sometimes it makes differences for reading cause f.e we are writing word ասա connected and everybody see it as connection of this ւ kind of symbol, so someone can read it as "asa" someone as "sas"

Is this eastern or Western Armenian because when I look up the alphabet online the letters go ayb ben geem da ech za rather than a be ge so I'm a little confused. Your writing is really cool by the way I'm quarter Armenian and I'm trying to learn so I can speak to my family in Yerevan:)
@sargishakobyan47438 жыл бұрын
It's the same. When Mesrop Mashtoc invented the alphabet, it was Ayb Ben Gim. But in modern Armenian, the government said that it's too hard for the children to remember, so they changed it to A Be Ge
@ArmenianKidsClub7 жыл бұрын
Actually that's not quite correct. Ayb Ben Gim are the name of the letters a b g are the sounds. The sovietization of Armenia caused a lot of this to be lost. its like say Ay Bee Cee Dee but the sounds are a or long a b c d
@Armenius_Catholicus5 жыл бұрын
I have some input to give. I learned that the letter after ր is ւ (pronounced huwn). The ու is a phonetic "letter", not an alphabetic letter. Also, եւ isn't a letter of the alphabet, but a modern conjoining of the letters ե and ւ, for the electronic writing (typing) - as you may know - of the word "and" in our language... on top of that, you wrote it incorrectly, as "yev" isn't spelled եվ, but with a ւ after the ե. Besides that, great video!
@GareginAvetisyan5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. This is the Armenian alphabet as taught in the schools in the Republic of Armenia (eastern Armenian), as the official language. Of course, there are some variants and interpretations of it, but I didn't want to sound too complicated and speak about linguistic details.
@Armenius_Catholicus5 жыл бұрын
@@GareginAvetisyan Thanks for the reply! Yes, I figured it's how it is taught in Armenia. What's your opinion on the fact that the eastern Armenian dialect uses incorrect grammar and syntax but correct pronunciation, whereas the western Armenian dialect is the opposite? I find it fascinating! Also, have you heard of a group of western dialectic Armenians trying to foster our existence in central & eastern Armenia (i.e. keeping our dialect and customs alive)? I personally would be interested if we find a compromise to our dialects, meaning that we would officially use the western grammar and syntax and use the eastern pronunciation... what are your thoughts on that?

Primarily those with Armenian roots or curiosity. It's primarily spoken in Armenia so there's not much diversity in knowing the language. I'm learning it now

If you learn a language with limited use, it may be easier to connect to speakers of that language, since they'll probably appreciate your interest. The reason for which I personally would like to learn Armenian is because I find like the sound of the language, and its alphabet; and I also have ancestors from Armenia.
