Thanks for explaining this, Shaelin. The first time I heard the term "creative non-fiction", I wondered what on earth it was. Turns out, I've been writing creative non-fiction for the past 50 years! I've tried again and again to write fiction, but it's like pulling teeth. Creative non-fiction is what comes most naturally to me.

This young woman is very smart, accomplished, knowledgeable and sophisticated for her age, and thus agreeable to listen to. But I do wish y'all would get rid of the background music while she's talking, as it requires my poor brain to do two things at once, to the detriment of both.. Thanking you in advance.

Thank you so much for explaining exactly what a creative nonfiction piece is. I never knew genres such as personal essays and biographies all were considered Creative nonfiction.

Great introduction to the field of CNF. It would be good to get your take on the growing sub genre of ‘business fiction’ (sometimes known as ‘management novels’) that explain and illustrate complex principles through fictional narratives. Two notable examples are: - "The Goal" by Eliyahu Goldratt, introduced the Theory of Constraints (TOC). - "The Phoenix Project" by Kevin Behr, Gene Kim, and George Spafford, introduced DevOps and agile methodologies.

Yes, in my class they were reluctant to define it too much, only that there were different possibilities we were shown, and that the one no-no was to be creative with the facts, although even that was sometimes bent at times.

Can someone please tell me why agents an publishers want book proposals for nonfiction submissions and fiction submissions demand full manuscripts? Why are the requirement so different?

This type of work is something I’m a bit scared to try out due to the depth of it. CNF’s can be very meaningful but they require a lot of work causing no matter the type of subgenre you choose, research is still required. CNF‘s can also have a lot of various subgenres but it is written as a factual story, they also can be told out of order and jump from story to story as long as the writer has personal connection to the way it is told. This seems absurd to me since I am very used to following a certain format and guideline and sticking to it.

What if I want to write a nonfiction but it's just something that can happen to anyone? I mean, I have experienced loss of a loved one but not in the subject of what I want to write. Does it matter if it's not based on a true story but on something that happens in real life?

how do you structure a coded structure book in a Creative Nonfiction? I design the System of Universal Creation Process, both physical and spiritual. in order to complete this map, reader had to go through 13 books, to totally collect all the peaces, it all these peaces are put in 1 book, this system will totally confuse. it is kinda like Journal / story / real life / happening now, then death take place, now new journey begin, in a different world, but the system still apply. I know this sound crazy, but if I have your 20 minutes, I will have you convince, problem I ran into is structure it in a literature form. there are no sample of this type of structure existed, I do believed, there are no book like this in existence.

I think that while this is an interesting genre to write I feel like I would not be the biggest fan simply due to the fact that you have to have a certain depth when writing. I would probably like reading them but because i am so used to following guidelines and being told how to write something I would have a bit of a hard time.

Very informative video. Thank you! You should work on not dragging your voice from the middle to the end of your sentences. Sounds like you are out of air and trying to talk. I say this respectfully. Not being mean or anything.
