Thanks for your wise words, Heilmer! I got a 7/7 on last month's DBQ and I really want to maintain that level of success nearing the end of the schoolyear. You're a great help.

@@calebc2067 what do you mean by unicorn point?
@sumiM272 жыл бұрын
@@polotrav3439 the unicorn point represents a complex understanding beyond just knowing the content. It’s called a unicorn point bc it's kind of unspoken and isn't part of any of the historical thinking skills or requirements on the essays 🦄
@polotrav34392 жыл бұрын
@@sumiM27 then to achieve said unicorn point you just have to know the question really well - exactly what it’s asking and how you can stretch your answer to fit all of the necessary criteria

Thanks for this video good sir! I did a practice DBQ in my APWH class for the first time and I didn’t include some important things (like outside evidence and complexity) since I didn’t have time. I basically wrote “World War One bad. Colonized lands didn’t like mother countries. Colonized lands angry. Colonized lands rebel.” My main issue was because my contextualization was too long. Our first practice DBQ in class I was so stressed that I wrote 6 pages, almost a page per document, and I only later found out that the other students had barely wrote 2 sentences per document.

This is extremely helpful but I have to say this is the reason I hate tests like the APs. It isn't about how well you write: It's how well you know the rubric. Of course writing is the more important part but I personally don't think you should be tested on how much you prepared for a test and rather how much you know about the material. That being said I do not know what the alternative would be to remove this "writing to the rubric" but I hope that someone comes up with an alternative.

Here is how you get faster: On the midterm for my class, the DBQ took me an hour 30 and I was finishing in like the last 2 minutes Then, he gave us a DBQ to write in 1 class period (39 minutes) as a 30 point graded assignment, and gave us 5 documents instead of 7. That right there is how I was forced to learn to write the DBQ fast, since if I didn’t, my grade would die

Try this, go through the whole document and use a pencil and underline things that stick out! That way so when you go through it again you read parts that are already underlined and skip over the unnecessary bits, it’s risky but but better than reading it over 9 times
