Learn how to to WRITE ON A CAKE at home with this TRACING HACK for beginners and pros! Learn how to write HAPPY BIRTHDAY on a cake! This easy hack will take the stress out of writing on a cake easy. Although using a piping bag and tip will make it easier you can write on a cake without tools by using a ziploc bag or parchment paper (check out my video on how to fold parchment paper into a piping bag) and just cut off the tip to the size hole you want to use. I do not recommend using gel to write on a cake because it bleeds. You can also write on the cake board if that makes things easier.

Hi- how do u stick the chocolate writing on to the cake?

Place the writing on a chilled cake so you don't knick up the buttercream. When the cake rooms to warm temperature the chocolate writing should be stuck in place. If it is not then chill the cake again take off the letters and place the letters on parchment paper with a little water on it so the back of the letters are moist then stick it back on the chilled cake but be careful not to put too much water so the color doesn't bleed. The water should act like glue. If that does not work for some reason then you can brush piping gel on the back of the letters. All of this should not be necessary. I just want to give you options just in case.

I haven't tried this with buttercream yet but it is possible it could work if you freeze the buttercream writing on parchment paper and transfer it while still frozen. It's worth a try. I do worry about the color possibly bleeding though once it warms to room termperature.

If the melted chocolate is too thick what should i add?

Vegetable shortening but make sure it's fresh otherwise it tastes gross. When it sits in the can after it's been opened after a while it starts to taste like the can.
