I kinda have a better understanding. The problem that I had was trying to make sum wordplay that isn't "corny" Wordplay somethin like sean p, Pharoah monch style
@TheVisioneye
@TheVisioneye 2 жыл бұрын
@@notzeethatcomin966 It's not hard as it seems. I was the same way. To sum it up, think of word, associations, punchline. 1. Word - plugs 2. Association - flat screen/ cable box/ game system 3. Punchline - connected with more plugs than flat screens. Having ties with people and also flat screens are connected with lots of plugging to work the TV.

when I was 13 I wrote "I'm the coldest whether you cough or not" lol. sounds amateur now but my brother had to point out the triple entendre to me I didn't even catch my own shit. cold *weather* gives you a cold, you cough when you have a cold, but at the time I wrote it I was thinking more like I say I'm the best and some other rapper clears his throat lol a lot of my best shit like that from back then up to today even happened on accident.

@@darkskinwhite Yeah absolutely could. But try not to make recycling punchlines a habit. Just be very rare with it, I like to be creative with different nouns and write a clever bar around it. But I've recycled some wordplays I've used before, a thought in the moment thing sometimes

one thing that ive always kind of done naturally is theres probably a word in your last line that can spark the next line. so instead of thinking wordplay first, you have a line and then roll it into the next one, and that way wordplay actually becomes a tool for content/subject matter to keep you writing. may not work for everyone, we all think differently but next time you're stuck on a line look for a word you can flip in your last line🤘

wombat is a great example of this homonym tactic and so is this one guy, Chillinit - they will say 3 completely different phrases back-to-back and you'll mistake it for them repeating them self and you'll think they said the same thing 3 times, until you listen to it again and again, slowly getting notes of the differences.. unless you read the lyrics, you still might not get it and that's what can throw a listener off, because it's way over their head

I can second the breakdown in this video. I used nothing but doubles in the chorus of my most recent song "Metaphors" "Put instrumentals in a casket, I'm a dead beat I'm sonning all of these rappers, they still ain't seeing me My punchlines and wordplay is kind of hard to meet Don't entertain no beef, cause your putting your life at steak with T" Dead Beat/Beat (Deadbeat dad) Meet/Beef/Steak/T The very next line had "I'll break your bones" to tie back into T-Bone Steak. I'm somewhat just going on a small rant, but my point is that doubles are a neat way to challenge yourself, especially if you're like me where multi-syllabic rhyming is not your best, so work more on your wordplay and punchlines. It's also the reason this chorus says "My punchlines and wordplay is kind of hard to meet" since I'm actually not that good at doing wordplay people can catch but I'm very good at making punchlines, be it basic or complex. Thanks for reading all of this if you did.

It’s whatever inspires you. If you have a hard time starting writing listen to a sentence or even another song completely and write your response to the vocal sample or your own version of a whole song you listened to, kinda like a response to a song that has already been made.

So I'm a rapper. And i appreciate this video. But I'm realizing that all these examples are not things that excite me as a consumer of rap music. When eminem puts these double meanings in his new songs, I don't get excited over it. I don't personally like listening to lyrics that take tons and tons of dissection to fully get it and appreciate it. I like straightforward and easy to follow lyrics while using multi syllable rhymes. So that's what I do in my own songs.

Yo some good advice is just do you, do what you like and want. You don’t need to know wordplay as a rapper unless you want to be consider a real MC. And you are right that the average listener isn’t looking for wordplay but instead flows and rhymes.
