This is one of the best videos I've seen on interesting guitar chords and voicings because you're actually providing a context for when to use chords with extensions. Learning chords like this also helped me hugely with melody because you're already starting from such a rich harmonic place that it's a bit easier to try more adventurous or jazz inspired melodies, within the chords and as voice leading between interesting chords. Another few I love that feel unique to the guitar are Dmaj6/F# and moving that shape around, any Maj7 chord with the 3rd in the bass, a f#6/C# (you get that dissonance on top if you let the E string ring like with the c#m9), any m7 shell chord with the 5th in the bass (super fun to move around with the open b string), and g#m7add9

Thanks Jase, glad you enjoyed the video... and great suggestions with those other chords, I'm going to play around with those in my next composition. Appreciate the support!

Out of all the music making channels I watch, this one is the only one where I consistently understand everything taught. Absolutely wonderful teachers, thank you!

Thanks! I know most of these voicings, but you showed me some new ones (variations too - with open strings). I've been working on my own "chord book" for years. I'll be adding a few that you taught me.

My song this week in Keppie’s group is in G Mixolydian with a lovely melody and rewarding chorus, but is getting stuck in transitions. May need to throw in some Aussie cheekiness. (trying to get that word to catch on in the states ha) Hopin to see ya on the Lyric workshop next week. Tho, if you’re on, I’m gonna push you to do a ‘Chord Function’ workshop that explores modes outside of basic minor/major… in a U.S. time zone ha Cheers!

Some great new voicings Ben. Thank you. I've really been enjoying your channel. I don't know whether it's me but when I click on that link to Patreon and the PDF I'm getting a 404 error message.

do you have really large hands? I can't reach that far
@htws2 жыл бұрын
Hi Douglas. No, I wouldn’t say my hands are particularly large, but I have spent some time stretching the webbing through daily practice … it doesn’t take too long to reach these shapes. Also, try moving your wrist into different positions, it can help you get access to the chord forms. Hope that helps

Hmm... interesting but sorry I have only listened to the various chords up to 5.26 and the chords played would be more suitable in jazz music. If you listen to the Beatles and Eagles songs they rarely used the chords depicted because the crucial point to remember is to mainly play the major and minor plus 7 chords.Jazz chords are not generally required.I also don't find the chords "beautiful" and this of course is only my subjective opinion. The most melodic songs do not use these chords eg AC/DC,the Everley Brothers,Simon and Garfunkel.However thanks for the interesting subject.

What a tease. Should be available without sign up. Your pursuing us. Not the other way around. If we like it then we might move forward. I’m just saying
