Fun fact: There is actually a lost Bengali letter. The letter is Li/Le (ঌ). This letter made the Li/Le (লি) sound. It was used a long time ago in the Bengali alphabet, but slowly it became out of use. Now it is not used anymore. This letter made writing in Bengali little less time consuming. Here are some examples: With (ঌ): Without (ঌ): The English word: ঌজ্ঞ। লিজ্ঞ। Gender. ঌপ। লিপ। Lips. ঌমা। লিমা। Lima. ঌক। লিক। Lick. There are countless examples. This used to be my favourite letter. I have also used it in my life once. Now every Bengali word beginning with Li/Le is often replaced with the letter ল (The Bengali L, which makes the “Lo” sound) and the symbol ি (It makes the “E” sound). Edit : I was very young when I learned about this letter.

No Sakina, it's not the real use of this sound. It's actually pronounced as lri in Bengali, though it's not used for Bengali. It's actually used for Sanskrit words only, by mostly Hindu priests to write Vedas and other classical Hindu literature, therefore it has not got much use in Bengali. Even in Sanskrit, it's usage is fewer actually. Every South Asian language has that sound in its Indic script, because the script was used to write Sanskrit at some point of time. We too have it in Odia, but we pronounce it as Lru. ଌ is the Odia letter for it.

@@infinite5795 First of all my name is not Sakina it is Sakin. And second of all it is pronounced Li/Le or Lri. So technically, you are correct. Aside from Sanskrit and Odia, it is also a lost/old Bangla letter. Aside from everything I am happy to know that this letter is still use. Edit : So you said that, it has not been used a lot in Bengali. Here, you are completely wrong. It used to be a widely used Bengali letter. I remember using it. My dad also remembers using it too. It is still in use, but rarely.

@@nayaabdoja8161 Ri (ঋ) is still used in some words but rarely. Some examples are: ঋতু (Season), ঋণ (Debt, loan), ঋণী (Debter) etc. This letter also has its own symbol which is (ৃ). But Li on the other hand, is out of use from the Bengali alphabet now.
