Thanks for the shoutout! Useful tips. LumaFusion is a great video editor. There’s a bit of a learning curve but I find it to be very fast and easy. In fact, I can edit video on my phone much more quickly than using a computer (with no difference in quality)..

LIZ -- VIKING from AT98 here....enjoying review of all your vids. VERY informative & educational... I'm doing another thruhike this year but SOBO, and will be vlogging the trek.. I'm pretty much an IT illiterate at 77 yo, but your vids and Evan's have pushed me in a good direction. Thank You so much for all your knowledge. VIKING

I wish the creator studio app had everything the desktop website does. I still have to go on my computer to add my end screens and some info- like recording date, the video game I'm playing [I do mostly gaming videos], the languages, and things like that.

Liz I really love your Channel and I like the way you did your Appalachian trail hike.I don't want to be picky but your audio on this video it's very hard do you understand and most the time I play it on my TV at home, especially since you're doing a video on video quality and techniques. Have a Merry Christmas to you and your hubby and thanks for everything you do on KZbin

Thank you, Liz. I go out next year and wanted to learn this process so I have the videos for myself and friends who might want to watch. You and Evan have been a great help in preparing for the A.T. I hope I meet someone like you (three) to hike with next Spring. Now to finish binging on your videos.

This was probably the most relatable "how to video" video I've seen so far! And your tips would work for anyone wanting to get started, even if it was for non-hiking videos. I also liked that you mentioned scheduling. Maybe two or three times a week for thru-hiking videos works well because people see your videos often enough without being overwhelmed by one video after another (especially if you are following several thru-hikers). I always had the feeling of watching a continuing journey often enough to keep up with what's going on yet not so many during a week that I would be concerned about a backlog of videos to watch. Plus, I really liked that you would put whatever day it was on the trail and some type of mileage or place on the video. I've seen some on the trail leave out info like that and maybe forget to say where they are in the video, but you and Evan did a great job of that in your respective videos. And that must be tough to edit videos after a long day of hiking! It's amazing so many people actually post videos! Finally, I never thought about "style" of editing a video, but I have now been made aware! Great and informative video!

Your videos have been so helpful. This one is probably my favorite! I hike all the time and I’m really into photography. I actually carry a DSLR and tripod on every hike/backpacking trip. I do have some hiking videos on my KZbin channel but those took me forever! The process you shared seems so much easier and I really appreciate it, thank you and keep up the great job!

Thank you. It's hard to video a hike. I tried on a section hike that I did in VT and found the challenge of the hike sort of got in the way of trying to capture it on my phone. I resorted to taking pictures. Kudos to you for doing it throughout your arduous hike and letting us know how you did it.

Really nice explanation video for the average person! The one issue I was wondering about was trying to edit video on such a small screen. Not sure if I could do that or not, I'm accustomed to a large monitor. I guess necessity breeds ingenuity. Would definitely need my reading glasses though! :-) Question: I thought I saw your GoPro on a backpack strap mount in one video. If you did shoot some video like that how did it work?

Your video helps for sure. I just section hike and do weekend trips plus other hobbies and have been goofing with a GoPro getting footage. I just started trying to learn how to put a video together and figuring out a style. I am lacking in tech skills so it's a slow process. One question for you and others, Does everyone making videos of themselves feel like they look like an idiot to themselves? Most everyone else looks cool in their videos but I watch mine back and think,"Dear God is that really me?"

Were there many hikers that just filmed and left the editing/KZbin uploading to someone back home. Basically, the hiker films and when in town just uploads to a dropbox and have a trusted editor do the hard stuff.

Thank you Liz. Great articulation and presentation. Well done! I'll be using the "Power Director App." on my hike. Having enough charge power is crucial. I'll be sporting the 26,800 mah Ravpower battery pack with the duel high speed charging ports that will allow for a full input charge from empty in just 6 hours! Thanks for sourcing the music site for us, I'll check it out 👍Cheers to you and Luke! Lamplighter 2019 out! 😉

Hey Liz, you can find the "free version" of the Power Director app. at the Google Play Store. For a few bucks extra, you can get the "Power Director" water mark removed, along with the few pop-up ads ever so often. The "paid version" has fantastic editing features, and it's super easy to work with. Very straightforward! Thanks for the comeback! Cheers, and a very Merry Christmas and a super happy & blessed New Year 2019 with Luke! Lamplighter 2019 out! 😉

Good questions! Videoing: all day throughout the day, hard to say how much time. Editing: usually 1 hour per night on average. Uploading: could take 10 min to upload a 10-15 minute video (in 1080) on good WiFi connection or could take up to 6 hours to upload the same video on crappy WiFi!

Hey Liz! Thanks for doing this video. Super helpful! Did you ever have problems uploading videos longer than 15 minutes? When I try to upload from my phone and the vid is longer than 15 min, KZbin gives me an error....I can only upload longer vids from my laptop.
@LizKidder6 жыл бұрын
Great question! I can’t believe I didn’t think to include this in my video… I kept all my videos 10-15 minutes long and didn’t struggle too much with uploading. In the southern section of the hike, Wi-Fi sources weren’t as good and sometimes I did struggle with it taking 5-10 HOURS to upload! As I got north it got easier, and most WiFi sources uploaded quickly, maybe 5 to 10 minutes per video. I have uploaded my 40 minute gear video from my phone at home and had no issue - maybe 10 minutes to upload. It all just depends on the Wi-Fi network or data you are using! Definitely works best to get ahead of your videos and schedule them out so that you can wait to use a good Wi-Fi network to upload! Oh and I also should mention I was uploading in 1080 which takes longer, I know some people who were uploading in lower quality and it was much quicker!
