Thanks for the video and the Arma Dynamics targets. I believe they will really be a big help. I guess my only suggestion would have been a one or two-minute explanation that the grid is .5" squares and that the numbers around the target show how many clicks you need to move those distances. Seriously, you have provided a great resource. Thanks.

Quick question: if a gun is zeroed in at 10 yards, would the sight be inaccurate at 25 yards or 5 yards even? And when shit hit the fan, your targets won't stay at 10 yards for you to shoot. What then?

No difference just zero. Handguns don’t cowitness, zero each sight system separately
@craigcrissman46514 жыл бұрын
You don't want to cowitness a pistol red dot. Align the iron sight as like you would normally then zero the red dot ignoring the iron sights

All these zeroing videos, but they never talk about where the dot should be in the window. I’ve seen in the middle. But mine came “zeroed” and it sits lower third of window on the front sight post. And I hit where it shows. Should I “zero” it so the dot is in the middle of the window?
@UN12actual5 жыл бұрын
Go Bucks center of the window is where you should hold the dot. Ignore the iron sights when shooting the dot, just use the dot as it’s own system and pretend the irons aren’t there unless you need them as a back up. Present the gun so the dot is in the center of the window and I’m guessing your point of impact won’t change much or at all. Red dot parallax is a thing but not so much as people make it out to be. Any red dot, rifle or pistol, you want the dot to be in the center of the tube or box to reduce parallax issues.

I been shooting rifles with optics for a while, and that has always been in middle (which also happens to align with my flip up irons) and I hit what I point it at, of course aiming up or down depending on how far I am (sighted at 50/200). I figured pistol would be the same it as it sits it is Lower part of window. So I just make sure it’s there and I hit. I may adjust the dot to the middle and see if it’s easier to acquire.

This inexperienced newbie missed something. I am getting ready to zero my new red dot sight and landed on your video. If I zero at 10 yards, I don't have to hold-over at 25 yards? I assume the drop is negligible so I don't have to concern myself with that? Not sure why so many manufacturers recommend or suggest zeroing at 25 yards if zero at 10 yard gets you the same thing. I'm a little worried about 2 things on this wasp optic. Basically the elevation and wind age screws. They should have been designed to click but their free wheeling. My fears are that they'll vibrate loose and not hold zero too long or vibrate loose and fall out. Considering to put a small dab of putty or a small dot of loc tight with a tooth pic once I get them where I want them. Anyone else think of this as design flaw ?

What was your point of aim at 25 yards? All of the rounds hit low on the steel target. Also, where does the dot sit inside the RMR window? Do you have it lollipoping the front sight so that if you had to use the iron sights everything is still zeroed?
@UN12actual7 жыл бұрын
I don’t recall exactly where I was aiming but usually I pick a spot on the steel target where there is a mark and shoot for that. I do not have the dot co-witnessing or “Lolly popping” with the front sight I treat them as independent sight systems. If the sight were to go down I just look through the empty window and use the iron sights on their own

QUESTION: If you set at 10 yds, how does the elevation is compensated at 25 yds? Don't you have to adjust the target location due to trajectory drop?
@afrosheenix6 жыл бұрын
Nope. Look on some ammo boxes. The 9mm round usually reaches the top (apogee) of the curve at 25 yards and drops from there. Anything before that will hit high, anything after that will hit low. That's why they suggest you zero at 25 yards.

You never zero a gun shooting offhand. Always use sandbags or a solid rest to sight in a weapon. Shooting offhand does nothing to eliminate human error.
@UN12actual7 жыл бұрын
+Jim Snyder I certainly understand that and somewhat agree. However with pistols I've also seen quite frequently the zero be completely different off hand versus a rest due to harmonics, interference etc. Zeroing a rifle is different from a pistol. So long as you can be consistent do what works for you. The dot was on out to 50 as shown in this video and I've since shot it out to 100 with no issues. Thanks for watching. -Dave
