Join us in the speed shop of Top Fuel Motorcycle world record holder and 20-time drag racing champion Larry “Spiderman” McBride as he shows us how he and his brother make Top Fuel Nitro Bikes, shows us the latest builds in all different stages and gives us a detailed look at the world’s quickest drag bike (5.50, 265 mph) known as “Star.” We take a walk around the shop a d catch Steve McBride in action, machining motorcycle parts by hand. We give you a look at the raw materials, the machining process and the finished project. McBride shows us the new builds for Athol Williams of New Zealand, just a bare frame at the moment, Dave Vantine’s “Yellow Bullet 2” build in progress, the completed show quality build of Jimmy “The Hulk” Brantley”, and we even get a look at the first motorcycle to run a 5-second elapsed time, “Blue” that suffered a Top Fuel explosion in 2015, but will be rebuilt. Enjoy this inside look into the shop of Larry “Spiderman” McBride.

They use only the best stuff and building the stuff by hand probably 90% of it is a big reason why they have the success they do and keep this part of Top Fuel bike racing going for everybody involved in it

@@cycledrag Jack, this segment right here was my favorite because I know how hard Larry and Steve work but for the ones that don't know or that are new to the sport, it shows they just don't show up to a track and go boom there's the baddest bike in the house and new records falling but instead it shows how they work their asses off from way before daylight to well after dark wearing plain everyday machine shop Style uniforms with shoprags hanging out of their back pockets and it also shows why they have the success they do over the many years they've been doing it because they're not a young team these guys are getting age on them such as myself but you won't meet anybody nicer and more humble and like Larry said, if you're at a race and you're hot or want to step over and look and talk for a minute then by all means go ahead and step under the awning and that right there is Big Time appreciation from any race fan!!! I've shared a cycle drag with different people a few have subscribe and they like the content..... Jack you bring probably the best news and coverage to the drag racing community and especially for the 8th mile community, which is the most common form of drag racing these days!!! keep up the great work my man and please let me know when it's possible to order some of these cycle drag stickers because I have two vehicles that's needing at least two a piece and being here in southern WV where I'm located with a few Criss crossing interstates north, south, east and west, so I'm sure plenty of people would see them and be highly interested because this is a motorcycle area and a drag racing area for sure in any direction from me no more than 30 minutes away.... 👈💪👍🏳️🏁🇺🇸

I remember at 18 working for aeromet industries machining spreaders ( for their brand of coiler's that coil steel sheeting) and had to make 12 lead acme threads on a 42in lablond manual lathe. ALso when machining the i.d. of the spreaders we had to machine a 3/8in radius grease groove that started 2in. in the bore and stopped 2in. before the end of the bore (to keep grease from leaking out to much on lubrication ) And i had to make timing marks of when to start and stop including coast time of spindle once shutting chuck off. Honestly it was wayyyy more advanced than what seen in this video with the clutch covers. And again at 18 almost 19 yr old during first year of apprenticeship . Now 22 years later im now a union machinist /millwright at cleveland cliffs steel mill . Between then and now i have ran lot of cnc mazak lathes which i was primarily best at. Had a lot of impressive work machined on them as well in terms of set up , material hardness, handling chatter , programming complication of lying to the machine to get it to cut to what u want like when machining spheres etc and keeping them +/- .001 . North west indiana here has lot of machine shops due to all the steel mills on lake michegan. Our machine shop is looking for few guys too but sadly in these times the corruption so bad they are demanding new hires to have taken the bio weapon shots that are extremely inhumane and diabolically corrupt and i can't wait to god until Nuremburg Trials Kick off!!!

This is by far the best content on you tube!!! I’m helping put together a new Big Show funny car team. We are running a JFR clone car with JFR tune up and parts. I’m going down tomorrow to start it for the first time. This vid has me wanting to burn nitro on 2 wheels in a bad way!!!! How do I get me some cycle drags merch??? I really really hope to see you guys in the staging lanes soon. NHRA needs to recognize how important Top Fuel Bikes are at the national events. Fuel, and Prostock Bikes need to be at a lot more races. I have grown up around drag racing. My father was one of the first guys to manufacture a “billet” Hemi Cylinder head in 81. I was only 3 years old. As a child my best memory’s are going to all the race shops with my dad when he was doing his weekly rounds. I got to learn from some of the most talented people on this planet. Back when you had to make it because you couldn’t buy it. Seeing this shop reminded me of the greatest part of drag racing. All the EXTREMELY talented people that build their racing machines.

Don Garlits team found out how to make a rear engine dragster work by slowing down the steering ratio by about 1/2 and the rest was history. What interests me is if the same principle could be used to locate the engine toward the rear of the motorcycle by slowing down the front steering ; that way the rider isn't sitting on top of a potential bomb and the engine can transfer more weight nearer to the rear wheel and still have a bike that steers very well and is very stable

A lot of respect for Larry and his team, he is a true Dragbike Legend. I do not agree with the statement that they build the "best" Dragbikes in the world and that they come from the USA. They use still to my knowledge casted engine cases from Puma with cranks that are made here in Europe. Same as the 8V casted V&H cilinderhead. If you look at Jaska his all self build Nitro/Methanol injected World quickest V-Twin and has the quickest 1/8 mile in the world ran by a Dragbike and is billet build and runs without a transmission is really innovative. Marcus first in the world with carbon wheelybar on Top Fuel Twin. To name other Dragbikes from Europe that are really quick and fast and true high quality build Like Peter, Fast Fil, Rikard, Marcus, Jaska, Willem, Chris, Al, Sverre, and the list goes on. A nice inside to the world of Dragbikes. All the best to Larry and the team, the comeback for the Hulk! Amazing people doing impressive Dragbike facts. All the best, Mike

I thought GS motors had a roller bearing crank but? That was why heaps of people in the old days could get away with running them on nitro or cramming bulk boost down their throats is because they could handle the shocks to the bottom end

Right now, an IndyCar race car is powered by an engine capable of producing between 550 and 750 horsepower. There's an additional 60 hp waiting in the wings with the Push-to-Pass feature. That's not enough, apparently. IndyCar drivers have been clamoring for more horsepower, and it looks like that wish is set to come true. (Just a point of reference and they have two extra wheels lol)

Carbon fiber wheels for the weight savings/power. What's Larry's opinion on why carbon fiber wheels are cracking on the new Corvette? Basically what's Larry doing right that GM can't seem to figure out??

CycleDrag Hi Jack, I came over to cycle drag as I was looking on advice on tuning my Gsxr 1000 in my race car and got hooked. It kept me going through lock down. I’m going to try and get to a drag race in the uk this year. Favourite parts of cycle drag for me are meeting people behind the scenes like the video with Bob Carpenter. Keep up the good work

Superb video, your bikes are flat out badass. I used to build old Kaw's groing up, big kits, cams, with big Mikuni carbs, nothing even close to yours though. We had lots of fun racing those old slugs back in the day, back then 9's were hammerdown. Good health to you and yours.
