Wow! Dude, thanks so much. This helped me get that awesome dreamy, spacey, trippy Trey sound, as shown in the live clips in the video. I've always had trouble making Mixolydian sound like that. Maybe because I'm a rocker, through and through, lol. Usually I hear the F7 and just play F Mixolydian. I know the fretboard pretty good, so I move those notes around and have fun jamming. This was different. Playing the notes in the positions you showed really unlocked a distinctive Trey voice on my guitar. Beautiful sounds. I really appreciate your friendly vibe, and teaching style.

That mini lydian arpeggio over the 4th chord is so good. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yeah, that's kind of my favorite...love sneaking in some lydian!

Completely agree with your approach. Love the eb 4th Lydian, Dorian and adding the eb major 7th. Keep up the great work, fans r much smarter for it

Very confused here. at 3:28 you said that A is the Dorian note of Bb Major. How is this Dorian and not Locrian? Am I missing something here?
@PhishGuitarLessons4 ай бұрын
Hey sorry if the way I said that was confusing! What I meant is that the note A natural is what gives C dorian its unique sound. So if you throw an A into your C minor pentatonic, it creates a dorian sound. Let me know if that helps or not, thanks!

@@PhishGuitarLessons I see. Thank you. Maybe I was just being a bit dense. Im pretty basic with theory, but i'm trying to improve that. Thanks again!

@@affliction1980 Not dense at all! I can see how that could have been confusing so thank you for clearing it up!

@@PhishGuitarLessons Now that I was able to get past that obstacle that was confusing me earlier, this all makes much more sense. I've been taking small bites of this lesson and trying it with jam tracks. Thank you!

Awesome lesson! This definitely explains Trey's playing for me. As a younger player, I hear all these weird notes that sound good and now I know where they came from! I sometimes never knew where and/or why he hit them. This really just blew my mind!!!! 🤯🤯🤯

Awesome, thanks! I always appreciate the bit of theory behind the playing. I don’t think enough about where the modes overlap with the pentatonic positions and the chords. Trying to mesh all of those together instead of always playing them individually.

Yeah, it's cool to see all the (interconnected) possibilities that live in a given area of the fretboard...it's a never ending quest!
