If Europe increases its military spending and steps up because they aren't certain of what Trump will do. Then Bravo. That's exactly what Trump said from the get go. NATO needs to step up and carry its own weight. The U.S. is supposed to be a NATO partner. Not it's keeper. For the last 30 years, the U.S. has been paying about 50% of the defense costs of Europe. Great discussion as always, guys. I am a 76 year old American engineer living and working in Kherson throughout the full scale invasion. We are continually getting more resilient to the artillery, rocket and drone attacks. There is more money coming in locally; the military, both Ukrainian and the many foreign soldiers here, some hard core U.S. Marines and Army Ranger recon guys, are getting better with ever increasingly effective weapons and tactics. I am looking forward to the inevitable river crossing, maybe as early as next spring. I am not uncomfortable with this war. My Ameican ancestors fought in the French and Indian War, the American Revolution, Civil War, WWI and WWII so this one is not that bad by comparison. I am really looking forward to the fight back to the 1991 borders. Europe is getting geared up, Russia is sinking, the Poles, Finns, Baltics, Sweden, Denmark are really stepping up big time. Recruitment in Ukraine is finally getting into gear, strategy and tactics are modernizing. We got AI integrated into our drones here in Kherson. And I will make a lot of money rebuilding Ukraine's infrastructure after we win the war. For me, life is good and very promising; with or without Trump. Have a nice artillery free day. (lol)

Croat here. Joining the EU, Schengen and Eurozone is the best thing to have happened to us since Napoleon. It is true that we are being priced out by rich westerners buying sea-front properties, but they bring € and we are developing economically. Everyone that wants a job can get a local job (underpaid) or they can go West and get a well paid job. In any case, currently life is FAR better than what we had before joining the EU - corrupt local sheriffs, crap economy and no perspective for a better future. This is an important point that I think is missed in the whole Brexit discussion.. For people in the Leave camp, the viewpoint was; either leave the EU and be independent, or remain and stay part of the EU trade block. And even for Remainers, there was the feeling that, "if we leave, we'll be on our own, in the cold, without the trading partners we've relied on for half a century". The middle ground reality is, the UK is still trading with the same block they have been and were once a part of, just without the benefit of true free trade and freedom of movement. There was no miracle Vietnam, Australia, or Brazil answer to source imports and exports as a replacement for EU trade partners. No, almost all previous trade relationships with EU countries will stay as the status quo, just with the UK at an inherent disadvantage. All this isn't a new revelation, James O'Brien has been saying this for years, but it's now undeniable. This is the reality of Brexit... less favorable trade relationships in exchange for, theoretically, less brown people coming into the country. But even that hasn't come to fruition, on account of the channel being, literally, a swimmable distance.

Game theory professor William Spaniel I also think is a must on youtube. Perun is also excellent - and he very early on pointed out that Ukraine would not loose, given ample western support, because Russia simply can not match a willing west. For me as a non-military man, he provides an unusual professional view on military economics and procurement. The Yale lecture series on Ukraine, by professor Timothy Snyder is very interesting. It was helpful to me at the beginning of the war, to get a better grasp of Ukraine as a country. I also suspect he has more inside knowlidge at government level in Ukraine, than he lets on.

What ever are my feelings about the UK leaving the EU were (it was close but at the end of the day it was democratic). My feeling regarding the way the EU has reacted to us leaving, is they have gone out of their way to push the UK away and tried to make life more difficult for the people of the UK. Canadian here. I completely agree with Jake that the US is no longer a reliable security partner and it will take decades for outsiders to regain whatever trust they once had in the country. European defense is now (as it should be) a matter for Europe to attend to. Hopefully with a change of government in Germany early in the new year, at least the eastern/northern-front European countries will be prepared to be more aggressive towards Russia. To my mind, this should include not only more active military engagement in Ukraine but possibly also action to neutralize the threats posed by Belarus, Kaliningrad and Transdniestra. If anyone starts pushing for a "DMZ" in Ukraine, European countries should push for a much more extensive cordon sanitaire that includes ALL of these territories. For what it's worth, I'd like to think - particularly with the size of our population with Ukrainian roots - that the next Canadian government (under the Conservatives by no later than the end of 2025) will offer much more military support than our disgracefully weak current government has been willing and able to provide. But our geography (and economic integration) means that our primary preoccupation at the start of Trump's next mandate will be trade with the US. It's not clear that this will constrain our stance on security issues (though it's possible).

Nobody will vote for declining. That is the reason Europe is not acting like one. There are countries in the east that are in the process of rising, they have another view on the big picture as the west of Europe. In the west the direction is downhill. They will never give up their standards with a smile on the face. To act like a union, we have to be the same. And we aren't there yet. And I as a German feel uncomfortable about the decline of my nation. But in the end, we as normal inhabitants, are helpless.

A German with French and Asian blood here. I have been telling to my German, French (and also Asian) relatives and friends for a while now, that Trump makes Europe great again. From the start of this talk they called me crazy, but gradually they share my view. Europe, especially the EU has been being so compliant and loyal to America's wishes for all those years, but unfortunately this compliance and this loyalty havem't been appreciated. It is now yes a relief to see Europe waking up, ameliorating her power, enhancing her energy, making herself great again. But one thing we have to, always and I mean always, keep in our hearts is that America had helped Europe to eliminate some dangerous tyrants to make Europe a beautiful place to live in before this madman pushed Europe aside. Go and watch Trump's first UN address as US President - the Germans were acting like spoiled children, mocking and laughing at him. He told them to stop funding Russia and take their own defence seriously, and they were actually offended by that (how dare he demand we stop funding the enemy and build defensive capabilities worth speaking of). I don't see them laughing now. Europe cannot make itself great again when Europe isn't able or willing to produce enough to even help Ukraine sufficiently (let alone defend all of Europe if it actually came under direct threat) - as Zelensky said, without American support, they would lose (and the same would apply to Europe if Europe was attacked - remember Lybia? Europe was the one that wanted that intervention, but ran out of ammo in DAYS. Long before Ukraine even was an issue). Europe now had 3 years to prepare, and is still not able and/or willing to send sufficient aid to help Ukraine actually advance (or to defend itself if need be). Europe is a joke, and needs to stop being naive and ridiculous. To think Europe could save America when Europe can't even defend itself (or an ally like Ukraine) is delusional. Even IF Europe had the leadership to become a strong partner to America (which it doesn't), it would take decades to reverse all the cutbacks that have decimated European capabilities to defend even just itself, let alone others. Oh and btw, Trump is not a tyrant - Biden was the one who attempted to prosecute his political opponents (in a trial even Democrat fmr. NY Governor Cuomo said "would never have been initiated against anyone else" because the charges were ridiculous and various precedents & legal traditions were ignored), was allegedly elected with far more votes than any other President (incl. Obama) during a "pandemic" (after Social Media censored all the stories that could hurt him), and enabled dictators around the world to do as they please by appeasing them. It was under Democrat rule that Ukraine got attacked twice (and it was Joe Biden who, under orders from Jake Sullivan, told the Ukrainians to stop when they had 40k Russians surrounded in late 2022, and had to let them escape so they could build up their defences because Sullivan feared a Russian collapse more than wasting countless lives in a brutal stalemate). Then, the next year, Democrats blamed Ukraine for not having thrown all their resources at the defences Russia had a year to build up, which would have been a total catastrophe as they had no air support - Democrats wanted them to use NATO tactics without their most fundamental basis, i.e. air superiority. Watch Sullivan's recent interview.). If you scrap your military and dissolve countless units (like Europe did), you cannot just recreate them over night. Same applies to manufacturing of military equipment.

anti-immigration, at least in USA, is fear of displacement. Many have grown up in places in which white people have bee replaced by non-wqhites or Hispanics. I would nver vote Trump but I grew up in a displaced neighborhood. A place wghere white families, like mine, were forced to move even though we were perfectrly willing to live with minority neighbors. Why move? Landlords deliberately let the buildings deteriorate. Why? Higher rents obtainable from minority families, including those on welfare assistance with rent vouchers. Part of the fear of displacement is the belief, not paranoid, that elites like the national rental property buyers headquarted in NYC will jack up rents that minorities are willing to pay. Plus undocumented immigrants will not complain about deteriorated conditions for fear of being arrested.

However, in terms of your audience, you owe them a balanced view when it comes to internal American politics.
