The fact that we consider anyone “winning” or losing a press conference or any political argument shows we have become too partisan and the largest percentage of that responsibility falls on the media. There is little to no difference between political coverage and the coverage of a sporting event these days. The only big difference is sports fan are less hostile to one another...sadly.
@thissucksallover6 жыл бұрын
You had me until you started playing the blame game. The responsibility falls to the culture, and by that I mean the media, the politicians, and a general public that responds to this sort of 'Who's the winner? Who's the loser?' binary thinking. Gotta win every given moment!
@tbz15516 жыл бұрын
thissucksallover fair points...that being said, there is a very clear correlation between the advent of 24 hrs news media and the current political atmosphere. Polarized and siloed view points constantly getting their confirmation bias. IMO this lays mostly at the feet of the news media for playing to our partisan nature. One could argue these always existed and it is simply technology that allows for quicker access to this confirmation bias. Regardless the media plays a significant role imo.
@brianbethea30695 жыл бұрын
@@Mypromiselive Something had to foster that culture though. Media outlets know that they make the most money when they present these issues as an "us vs. them" dichotomy. The more people see this sort of coverage regularly, the more this culture grows. Obviously media is simply capitalizing on an inherent trait in human nature (tribalism) that likes to see things presented this way, but only one of these things can change substantially enough--and quickly enough--to make a difference: the media. Human psychology isn't something we can just decide to reform, humans are always going to think this way; humans suddenly shifting away from tribalist instincts would be a major evolutionary step in the human psyche, and that's not something that's going to happen any time soon. The thing we CAN change is the way we present these issues, and that falls directly on the media. Capitalizing on humanity's proclivity toward ingroup and outgroup mechanics has tossed rocket fuel on this already incendiary human trait. Constantly catering to it has given it a platform and power. Sure, the issue has existed since the dawn of humankind, but the rise of inflammatory and highly partisan media outlets has given that instinct the power to throw our entire governmental process into the meltdown we see today. Even if the solution here is to stop paying so much attention to media or to take all of it with a grain of salt, the root of the problem still lies with the media's exploitation of the tribal nature of the human psyche. And the media are the only people who have the power to make these changes, because they're the ones who are making the decisions to present information in this format in the first lace.

As I am from Germany I might be able to give different perspective on this. The press conferences are organized quite different in Germany. First it is organized as an association composed of different news outlets and they decide who they invite to question, they decide what to put on the agenda and who should ask the next question. Usually there is not only the main press secretary but press secretaries from different ministries to answer specific questions. It is also no uncommon for the invited to hand out written statements. They are quite lengthy as well. Usually about 45 min to an hour. Regarding cameras it is not common to show the journalists. This takes away a lot of the drama. On the downside they are really boring and not many people like to watch them.

Our government is so far removed from "we the people", that is seems likely our Constitutional Democracy is truly in peril. What we need is complete and absolute truth regarding every last thing our government has done "in our name" from its inception up to today. Hold nothing back, let us know what these representatives of "we the people" have been doing in our name. Only then can we truly hold the crooks accountable and start to fix this mess.

The one thing you need to focus on is that fact for his supporters it's not about politics. For them it's about having fun. Being the ignorant people they are, they don't have the critical thinking skills to get off the ignorance train when Trump drives it straight to the stupid station. It's like cheering for the Undertaker. He's the bad guy you like to cheer for, because you are hoping he puts on a good show of his villainy, just so you can see the hero win in the end. However, I am unable to use information that I believe was tainted through a view of partisanship, which is very disappointing because I know that much of the information presented is accurate. It is hard for me to draw upon Vox as a credible source to someone with a polarized view of your content. I realize that nowadays it is becoming increasingly difficult to portray the current political system system in a positive light, but attempts and considerations for the viewer to see both sides would establish a sense of validity. Of course, I don’t know if this is the goal you’re striving towards; Vox could be only a method to promote leftist ideas and beliefs, which is fine, as long as it is portrayed and defined as such. Anyways, I still enjoy the content, I only wish it could be of more use to me.
