You ever sometimes take a Tylenol for a headache in hopes that it will help? Well so did a little girl except she never woke up! It's Chicago 1982 when a string of mysterious deaths baffle cops until one key element is the same across all the deaths, they took a Tylenol. Check out today's insane true story of a Tylenol murder spree that led to Johnson & Johnson doing a total recall on Tylenol!

This is the kind of crime that I’ve always found truly evil. To target random innocent people, faceless and without any remorse. Whoever did this, I hope they suffer(ed) a HORRIBLE death.

@@TitanicExpertJamesGrass they can, however there really weren't much cases like this after this point, especially not within the past 10-20 years. With cameras, store security, anti-theft measures, and much more people around it would be nearly impossible poison OTC stuff like this, in this way, in a store. The only way is by working at the warehouse where this stuff is manufactured or shipped, but even then there's many more procedures, cameras, and obstacles that would stop you even at this time these poising happened. The stores and bottles were the only weakpoints back then.

I was pregnant then, and switched from Excedrin to Tylenol. The TV in our Massachusetts home literally had a bottle with the serial numbers the news read sitting on top of it. My blood ran cold. A physician friend had advised me not to take anything while I was pregnant, "not even a Tylenol." That's why I'm still here.

It's really hard to solve cases like that, especially back than when there weren't camera's everywhere. This horrible crime could still be pulled off today if someone wanted to poison regular popular food items. They don't put safety seals on regular food items, so this could happen again and that is a scary thought.

And think now the government gave all the companies.. including J&J, completely free of liability for their covid vaccines. If in 20 years we learn they were horrible creations and cause long term suffering they have absolutely no liability. We regularly learn years later that it's bad. Ffs they even have lawsuit for their talcum powder causing cancer and women to become infertile... like 50years later.

So my father long time ago, had a headache, took some Tylenol. 5 minutes later he was watching the news and it said "TYLANOL KILLS. A BATCH OF TYLANOL WAS SPIKED WITH CYANIDE." so he kinda was like "oh really? COULDA TOLD ME FIVE MINUTES AGO" so he waited, and waited. He didn't die though, don't worry. He didn't get the one with cyanide. But he did say he felt like he was dying. Tho I think that was placebo

Extremely well done. Wow does bring back the memory of this. After they did the seals on stuff no 1 would buy anything unless the seal was on and not broken. Years went by with people looking for unbroken seals. Funny how fools find stuff but never report it.

I remember this incident well! It probably shocks younger viewers- and in retrospect it seems insane- but tamper evident packaging was virtually unheard of in those days. It was perhaps a bit less litigious time than today and things like terrorism seemed like things that only happened overseas. Maybe the biggest change since then is how ubiquitous surveillance has become since. Nowadays it's hard to imagine how the killer would avoid being seen on CCTV, and probably would have let something slip on social media. I lived over 1000 miles away from the area of the deaths but the panic reached to my town and across the nation! Apropos of nothing The Infographics Show should do an episode on Toxic Shock Syndrome.

All NSAID's will tear up your stomach and/or liver and are the greatest contributing factor in the deaths of alcoholics. They should only be used to reduce inflammation.
@SuperMichelleDJ

All pain relievers need to be taken under supervision of a medical professional. And if you take any pain reliever as instructed, you'll be fine most of the time. Bad side-effects and allergies are not common. There are heaps of medications that will protect the stomach if you are sensitive to anti-inflammatories.

I give Johnson and Johnson major credit for taking it seriously. Who cares about image they pulled them off the selves. The cops and everyone handled this extremely well. To bad they never found the person (if you could call them that) who did this.

Those boxes and the location of the boxes are/were the keys to solving this case. How could dangerous boxes just disappear after the police arrived? What's also interesting is how a product could be purchased twice? Bar code scanning were pass introduction around that period. This person had access to the boxes and route. The nature of the dropped boxes leads me to believe that this suspect was pressed for time. It wouldn't be far fetched if the suspect was a delivery driver close to the company. Maybe one that was fired or had an issue with the company.
