Hunger remains a major challenge in the United States, and yet 40% of food in this country goes to waste. Tons of produce never even makes it for sale because it's not visually perfect. Hungry Harvest founder Evan Lutz believes it's time to start eating ugly produce - and in turn, reduce food waste and stop hunger.
Evan is a Conscious Capitalism entrepreneur from Baltimore, MD. From an early age, he’s been passionate about business, food justice, and the Baltimore Ravens. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 2014, and started on a food-waste fighting journey called Hungry Harvest at the age of 21. He was recognized in 2016 as one of Baltimore’s ’40 under 40,’ and was featured on the ABC show Shark Tank, where he made a deal with Robert Herjavec.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

thank you so much for this initiative! you know, i have to say that i have worked in restaurants as waiter (here in the netherlands) and i see so much food going to waste because people dont eat everything that comes in the plate. Also, i live in a student house and here students (which should be more conscious) also waste food. Maybe I also did when I lived in Brazil with my parents. I mean, I think i didn't, i dont remember, but those things we just realize when we live in harder situations when every penny counts. Students and people that live with a relatively higher amount of money won't care about the waste. Of course one may think it is not much what we waste at home, but when you see the amount wasted in commercial restaurants then it gets clear that it is a huge problem, which could become a solution if people would care more about those in need.
