Actually these "good Ukrainians" you say are literally 90% of the Ukrainian population. I went to Lviv last summer and Western Ukraine is known to be very pro-Bandera. Yes I saw some UPA flags but most of them actually praise Poland for supporting them. Bandera's vision of a Ukraine is not like modern Ukraine. Bandera wanted a centrallised nationalist dictatorship in Ukraine that would see the Poles, Jews, and Crimeans slaughtered.

The fact you call that Banderite regime a democracy speaks volumes.
@leer1698
@leer1698 10 ай бұрын
So the "Banderite regime" you call, where in the 2004 elections when it reached the second round, western and eastern surveys conducted it to be "democratically elected and fair". after Euromaidan, the country only had two elections, and only led by two people as of now: Poroshenko and Zelenskyy (we do not count temporary leaders) is not a democracy? This is from the Constitution of Ukraine: Article 1 Ukraine is a sovereign and independent, democratic, social, law-based state. Article 3 The human being, his or her life and health, honour and dignity, inviolability and security are recognised in Ukraine as the highest social value. Human rights and freedoms and their guarantees determine the essence and orientation of the activity of the State. The State is answerable to the individual for its activity. To affirm and ensure human rights and freedoms is the main duty of the State. Article 34 Everyone is guaranteed the right to freedom of thought and speech, and to the free expression of his or her views and beliefs. Everyone has the right to freely collect, store, use and disseminate information by oral, written or other means of his or her choice. The exercise of these rights may be restricted by law in the interests of national security, territorial indivisibility or public order, with the purpose of preventing disturbances or crimes, protecting the health of the population, the reputation or rights of other persons, preventing the disclosure of information received confidentially, or supporting the authority and impartiality of justice. (This is restricted due to war) Article 69 The expression of the will of the people is exercised through elections, referendum and other forms of direct democracy. In Western Ukraine during the war Bandera banners and UPA flags are put up to mock and troll the Russians who are anti-Ukraine. As for polls and surveys, those not in Western Ukraine have a negative image of Bandera. This is seen in Kyiv, Kherson, Donetsk, etc. anywhere outside of the Western region of Ukraine At the time when Bandera was alive, most of Europe saw far-right movements, such as France, Poland, Austria, Hungary. That's why you see most of the Balkans switch to fascism and join Germany (but most was mainly done because the Germans forced them to). Bandera growing up saw his people polonised and russified. That's why he hated Poland and the Soviets. But Bandera is not a Founding Father. You forget about Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, Taras Shevchenko, consider Orest Subtelnyi, who contributed so much to Ukrainian identity and history. Yes there are streets named after various Ukrainian collaborators, but have you seen anything named after one in a more national, or government scale? There are no schools, universities, hospitals, or government buildings named after Bandera. In the West and Russia, there are people who have done monstrous things but are still celebrated over. Churchill is celebrated by Brits but he starved 3 million Indians. Stalin is celebrated by Russians but he starved 13% of Ukraine and 40% of Kazakhstan. Jefferson is seen as a Founding Father by Americans but he was a slave owner and had affairs with his mistress. Mao Zedong founded the modern PRC and today it is one of the richest countries, but 30-45 million Chinese died from the Great Leap Forward. Does this make sense?

Bandera is barely admired by Ukrainians and most don't even know who he is surprisingly. His birthday is not a national holiday. Surprisingly in Russia they continue to commemorate Stalin. He's murdered more people than Bandera and his associates have. I find it funny that you call it a "US Color Revolution" and Ukraine a "regime". First of all, is it a Banderite regime or is it now a Servant of the People regime? You just contradicted yourself and you prove my point that Ukraine is a democracy and not a regime. Calling Mazepa the founding father of Ukraine is like calling Mayflower pilgrims the founding fathers of the USA or Francis Drake the founding father of the UK. Those people didn't even use such words. Mazepa was a leader of Zaporozhye cossacks, a social group, not the state of Ukraine. Few of the cossacks actually supported him, by the way. Cossacks also rebeled at the same time in Southern Russia under Bulavin. No one in the West thinks of calling that a national uprising, however, because Bulavin's cossacks lived in present-day Russian Federation.

Bandera is not "Ukraine´s founding father" - if you would ask your average Ukrainian who they consider to be "Ukraine´s founding father", the vast majority will probably say Taras Shevchenko, not Bandera (a minority might say Bohdan Khmelnytsky was the founding father). Putin´s actions are a self-fulfilling prophecy: Bandera, before the invasion, was in polls seen more negatively than positively by Ukrainians, but that completely turned around after with the invasion of 2022. Because when you invade a country - just like with what happened with the US military interventions in the Middle East and subsequent increase of in Islamic groups and ISIS - that leads to an increase in far-right sentiment amongst the population because of the eventual nationalism that cames around in said conditions. I find it very ironic that there are people who complain about Bandera due to his nazi collaboration, but then say positive things about Stalin, who did some nazi collaboration himself.

USSR was the last nation to sign any pact with Germany. Remember, the last nation in Europe, as a last chance to avoid war. Bandera participated in the systematic extermination of civilians simply by race or nationality. Stalin, even when deporting collaborators, did not. Even with crimes like Katyn, Stalin never massacred innocent people by way of race, absolutely not. USSR was made up of 200+ ethnicities and races, multi integration was a fundamental piece of communism, whereas nazism preached race superiority, and the elimination of other races, men, women, children, and that's exactly what the nazis did.

@@ldpr4915 Stalin participated in the early stages of the Holocaust through his pact - Jews who fled occupied territory by the nazis were given back to them by the soviets; some german communists who had fled Germany after the nazi takeover were forcibly returned by Stalin to Hitler. "Deporting collaborators" - are you seriously calling every single Crimean Tatar and Korean who were ethnically displaced "collaborators"? Very cringe. Also, just because X is less destructive than Y, doesn´t serve as an excuse for X to do whatever. Bullshit. When Bandera was in a concentration camp he was not treated like a prisoner, he was treated very well. During his time there, he continued to try to convince the German Nazis that him and his followers were their allies. During his time imprisoned, his right hand man Shukhevych and his men massacred over 100 thousand Jewish and Polish civilians. The goal of Bandera and Shukhvych and other Ukrainian nationalists of the OUN was a Ukraine in which all Poles, Jews, Russians, and other non-Ukrainians were eradicated. He was then released by the German Nazis in 1944. And even during the supposed split with Nazi Germany it is a myth that there was any significant fighting between the OUN and Wehrmacht. The USSR did in fact not starve 30 million to death. The total number of people who starved in the 1932-33 famine (Not intentionally caused by the USSR, there's literally no evidence for that) was probably less than 5 million and no higher than 7 million. If it wasn't for the USSR Ukraine would be at the same level of development as the average Latin American or African country, if it would even exist at all. We do all know who the real Nazis are today, that's correct. They are the ones who uphold WW2 Nazi collaborators, vote against UN resolutions condemning Nazism, make being a communist illegal, restrict celebrations of the victory over Nazism, and dehumanize and kill people for belonging to a certain nation.

While it correct to call his ideology nazi or fascist, Bandera wasn't German collaborator. His goal was independent Ukraine so after 1942 OUN started to resist German occupation ( and Bandera himself was imprisoned in German concentration camp ).

Don't forget how many Poles Stalin killed attacking Poland as an ally of Hitler? Ukrainians had suffered decades of genocide at the hand of Russians. Google Holodomor. Wanted their own state. But does explain why they needed an ally other than Stalin. It does explain why they wanted their own state. Parts of Western Ukraine had been Ottoman (Turkish), Russian, Austro Hungarian, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, then Russian again in 70 years preceding WWII. Each group wiped out others, often in Pogroms with ethnic cleansing. Look at Bosnia in 92'? Interestingly enough Pro Russian nationalists, led by a KGB guy, associate of Putin, Igor Girkin. Check out the news on him this week, or the guy who started Wagner group if you are looking for New Nazi's & genocide. My point is bad behavior in a war 85 years ago, where Russia acted worse, does not justify the genocidal actions of Russia in Grozny, Syria, Bosnia, Transnistria over the last 30 years, or Ukraine today.

Bandera was Ukrainian version of Kho Si Min (but not communist). He fought for the independence of his nation and country from Poles (which actually had to give authonomy to Ukrainian lands in 1923) and Russians, and wanted to use Germans for this mission. But Germans had other plans on Ukraine, so they arrested him and sent to Sachsenhausen concentrate camp. Also I spoke with many people from Southern and Eastern Ukraine (in fact, my Grandpa is living near Kharkiv, east of Ukraine), and they also think that Bandera is a national hero. And about rasists in Svoboda Party - they had only 1 per cent of votes in the 2019 elections. Now look what is happening in Europe - ultra-right party is now ruling over Austria, they had 30% per cent of votes in the elections in France, 16% in Germany. I am from Ukraine, the city of Dnipro, and until 2022 I did not know anything about Bandera, and I agree that this man should not be a hero of Ukraine, and every country in the world should reflect on its past, but it is very difficult to reflect on its own in the past, when the biggest war since the Second World War is going on in your territory, i.e., as the author said, Stepan Bandera's idea of a totalitarian ethno-monolithic state, during the war with the Russians, turned into the idea of an independent Ukraine and a confrontation with the USSR (that is, modern Russia), by the way, there are a lot of such heroes (which are actually rather anti-heroes), and in the comments one hundred percent there will be people who will say that Ukraine is a Nazi state and it should not be supported, etc. but I will remind you that in the center of Moscow (Red Square) the Russians have the dead body of a man (Ilya Lenin) who created, probably, the largest machine in history for killing people (USSR), and, unlike Bandera, killed people not by the thousands and tens of thousands, and millions, and by the way, the USSR was also an ally of Hitler at the beginning of the Second World War, I would also like to point out that Bandera is not a hero absolutely for all Ukrainians, but people like Stalin and Lenin are absolutely heroes for all 140 million Russians, therefore, the question of "denazification" and the question of destroying historical propaganda should be put first of all to the Russians, and only then to the Ukrainians, in Ukraine, and especially in the central, eastern and southern regions, the majority of people communicated in Russian and were apolitical until 2022 (I I take my acquaintances and friends as an example) and in such a situation to claim that Ukraine during the 30 years of independence was building Nazi ideology, in my opinion, this is the madness of Russian propagandists

Dear Author of the video please notice!!! 2:31 that is NOT a photo of Stepan Bandera. That is actually Reinhard Gehlen. Also: Bandera was free from the Polish prison, not because n#zis freed him. When Germans invaded Poland, he walked away because all personal ran away. Next: Banderas faction of OUN worked closely with Abwehr and Wermacht. ABWEHR IS ARMY INTELLIGENCE AGENCY - IT WAS NOT ACUSED OF WAR CRIMES ON NUREMBERG TRIAL (same situation for Wermacht) Plus Wilhelm Franz Canaris who was the head of Abwehr took part in the Hitler assassination attempt. NS Germans from SS and SD who committed the actual war crimes saw Bandera as a sub-human (Untermensch) because he was a Slav, so they did not want to help him. PERSONAL RECOMENDATION: if you would like to form a strong opinion about Stepan Bandera, I advise you to read a book from Grzegorz Rossoliński-Liebe: Life of Stepan Bandera. Grzegorz Rossoliński-Liebe was a Polish-german historian, so he is skeptical of Bandera, but said he was a ultra-nationalist or fascist but not a n#zi.

I rarely get to see this part of Ukraine's History, in all honesty I was half expecting you to start using the Banderites to justify the invasion (like I've seen Russians do) but I'm glad that you're channel is legitimately spreading unbiased information. From what I've been able to gather the issue of extremism in Ukraine is not a result of it secretly being the starting point for the 4th Reich, but is simply due to the history of violence, poverty, and the struggle of a national identity faced by Ukraine and other Post-Soviet states, It does make sense why many ukranians would choose to support that movement when given the appropriate context and viewpoints on the issue held by them. I do hope that after this war Ukraine will be able to prosper and improve itself politically as a free and Democratic society without this ammount of extremism, but you just can never be sure it will turn out well when it comes to slavic history. If anyone has more information on this topic feel free to reply to my comment (obviously not counting Russian bots and whatever the counterpart would be on the Ukranian side)

The author did make a pretty grave mistake of calling Bandera the "Founding father" of Ukraine. He's not and I'm fairly certain that not even the majority of hardline far-right here would consider him as such, let alone the majority of the population. Wanna pick a "founding father" from 20th century - that'd be Symon Petlura or someone like that. Want to go as far back as possible to the point when there was a semi-independent state that people often referred to as Ukraine? Then the founding father is Bohdan Khmelnytsky. Bandera is literally the most overrated fucking historical figure in our history for the sole reason that mentioning him pisses the russians off, which is why he's relatively popular. And we should "thank" the same russians for igniting nationalistic ideas brighter than any far right propaganda ever could. It's quite hard not to turn to that side when suddenly every lie they were telling the people about the russian menace turned out to be true. But hey, at least the resurrection of a ton of banger UPA songs is a pretty nice thing, most of these songs aren't like your usual right-wing propaganda stuff like "We are the greatest people in the world, we are going to defeat these subhumans in a swift stroke". Even though they are still undoubtedly works of propaganda, most of the time it's about how dire and unwinnable the situation is, and that despite this we should continue the fight for our freedom, no matter the cost, no matter the way. Even the "evil nazi song" Our Father is Bandera isn't a classic product of a personality cult (Bandera obviously had one, but still), it only mentions Bandera once - in that very line. The song itself is about the mortally wounded Ukrainian insurgent, his suffering and death, his grieving mother and the same idea that even though the price is terrible, we must defeat the russian menace, for the freedom of our people and for the freedom of Ukraine as a whole.

People look at this “collaboration” through the lens that Ukraine or Slovakia or Croatia (any country that collabed) actually knew that the holocaust was occuring, the germans told the jews that it didn’t matter if they survived because no one would believe that the things that happend to them actually happend. Granted a lot of these collaborators comitted atrocities but throwing the term nazi collab around doesn’t mean anything unless they were directly involved with SS activities these people were under the impression that their support for germany would in return cause support for their own independence.

No, they not only knew about the holocaust but also played active roles in carrying out the holocaust. By the US state department's own report, the Slovak government was the first Axis partner to consent to the deportation of their Jewish population, and it was Slovak officials and soldiers who ordered and carried out the deportations. Nazi collaboration is not a term that's thrown around; on the contrary it is reserved for the governments, organizations, and military units that knew what they were doing. Ukraine was between the proverbial rock and hard place. On the one hand Stalin had killed millions of Ukrainians through famine. On other hand Nazi Germany opposed Stalin but also was no friend to Ukraine either, in that they saw Slavs as racial inferiors. But this is not unique to Ukraine for in the US we have similar factions of white supremist. Bandera was not the founding father of Ukraine, not even close, not too long before Bandera, during the russian civil war, people like Symon Petliura, and long before that, poets like Taras Shevchenko were considered the founding fathers of Ukrainian identity, this video is just clickbait designed to exploit the horrible conflict in Ukraine to paint the Ukrainian people as nazis, despite the fact that the majority of Ukrainians fought for the red army against the nazis, this video also ignored how virtually everyone in europe from the French to the Russians collaborated with the nazis too.

To the people who think to say that this praise of bandera is the reason the west shouldnt suport ukraine, you should remember that a nations population often gets radicalized during a war. Especialy a war like this where russia is commiting war crimes every single day. Its not at all surprising that the свобода party is growing. Therefore supporting ukraine isnt wrong because your money is going to "nazis" and its acctually wrong not to support the people that are currently being bombed.

Name me a single war crime committed yesterday btw you know most of the civilian dead are caused by the AFU and not by Russia, why else do you think in the course of the war more civilians died in Gaza in 3 weeks than in the near 2 years that Russia launched it's SMO which btw is justified under international law
