Hi Dipanshu. Hope I spelt your name correctly. I was in Tashkent from 1992 to 1996 on work. The reason why people there know and love Bollywood is because Raj Kapoor set the trend followed by Mithunda (the directors actually) of shooting many of their films in Soviet union as these locations were very cheap compared to Swiss and Europe and gave same effect because of natural beauty. That time the shops sold audio cassettes of Raj Kapoor and Mithunda songs and whenever they saw an indian they start singing few lines. True love. My first hand experience ❤️

USSR has helped us (India) in many wars and according to the 1971 treaty, Article 7 says that "The High Contracting Parties shall promote further development of ties and contacts between them in the fields of science, art, literature, education, public health, press, radio, television, cinema, tourism and sports." which resulted in closer relations and boosting the already present Indian film industry in USSR. Actors like Raj Kapoor are pretty famous in Russia and post Soviet nations even today and the elderly people in these nations are still emotionally attached to their films as they used to be the best foreign films of USSR. There were film exchanges, meetings of Indian film directors with the Soviet actors/actresses etc.
