SWIFT alternative is already available in India which is called SFMS, developed by RBI All NEFT and RTGS transactions are currently through SFMS UPI cannot replace SWIFT because UPI uses switching and not asynchronous messaging system Indian SFMS can be extended to international users.

UPI should connect to CIPS , Russians system , paynow etc That will be decentralized system and alternative to SWIFT

UPI cannot connect to CIPS for obvious reasons.. we should first connect to those countries which are close to India diplomatically like Mauritius Israel Nepal Bhutan and Bangladesh ...once the system works well in these countries then we can expand them to other countries.

UPI can not replace SWIFT. The problem is security and multi currency transaction. If you have to use UPI in international transactions, you will have to change the complete structure of UPI. Thete are many things that goes in when we use SWIFT. It is complex and it comes under the domain of EDI (Electronic data interchange). It will take a book to explain it. But in summary, the thing that made Swift popular among banks is its security. And you have to know that SWIFT is bank to bank transaction not consumer to bank.
