Nice video. I would like to ask you onething like can we use these fiters with iphone camera app?Will these filters reduce video quality interms of cross polarization and stabilization?Do we need any post production?Because usually i use iphone camera app without any colorgrading or any other post production for my youtube videos.

I am wanting to purchase a set of Freewell ND filters to use with my iPhone 13 Pro. I am curious if the Freewell is compatible with the 13 Pro and if you could comment on what diameter filter might work best. I am thinking 67 mm? Also prefer a clip-on or Moment mount than changing my phone case. I routinely use a DJI gimbal as well.
@RichLackey
@RichLackey 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Barry, sorry for the very late reply. Yes, actually any filters are compatible with any phone as long as there is a suitable way to mount them. I like 67mm because it’s large enough to cover all three cameras. I would recommend a lightweight Moment case with a bayonet mount on it, and then the Moondoglabs Multi Camera Filter Mount V3 and a simple 52mm to 67mm step up ring. You could also just use 52mm size filters without a step up ring. I just like the 67mm because I use them on a mirrorless camera also. Filters tend to be expensive so I want a size that I can use on as many of my camera devices as possible.

Thank you for all the great videos you have uploaded. Just have one question. You mentioned not using VND filters on wide lenses. What ND filters do you recommend when shooting anamorphic 1.55 and 1.33. Thank you.

I made two videos a while ago, although my particular technique has changed a bit, the principles of how to color correct using the chart are the same. Part one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZrbl2ararOij80 Part two: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqTZmo1mmJJ1oc0

@@RichLackey i use Lumafusion to delog w filmic V3 video shot in filmic pro. Do I need this passport when I am not using (yet) davinci resolve? Or does it make sense yo make the investment only when I start to know how davinci resolve works?
@RichLackey
@RichLackey 3 жыл бұрын
To be honest the tools required to make good use of a color chart don’t exist in mobile apps yet. I keep waiting for this to change. It’s probably not worth the money until you’re ready to get into one of the main desktop editing packages. Resolve is my choice but Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro (and Avid) all have good color toolsets, or plugins that provide them.

@@RichLackey thank you. I have resolve the free version but I need to get into it. I stopped my premiere pro subscription as Lumafusion is just way easier and straightforward for what I need now in editing without subscription fees.

Hi Richard, would you recommend the Polar pro VND signature or mist edition for softening the digital look of iphone 14 pro? Also, do you have a preference over edition I v II? I saw in your ultimate iphone rig video you used a focus motor on the gimbal, which would be defunct with the hard stop edition II?
@RichLackey
@RichLackey Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I haven't used the mist edition, and for the PolarPro VND I only have version 1, never tested the later version. I'm still super happy with the first version, they are the best VND's I have.

Thanks. I saw that you reviewed the beastgrip vnd filter on your website. What lens did you test it on and did the filter come with a 58 or 62mm outer rim? I just ordered the newly released beastgrip vnd filter, which comes with a larger 62mm external rim (I suppose the larger filter might help reducing artifacts when using with wide lenses). But I am still worried about potential shadowing polarising artifacts at 6-7-8 stops down. What are your thoughts?
@RichLackey
@RichLackey 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I actually am not aware of Beastgrip’s newly released VND, if it is any different to the one I have had for a while. The overall size of the filter shouldn’t affect how it performs at wide angles because what causes the issues is the incident angle of light passing through the filter. I’m very interested to hear your experiences once you’ve tested your filter. I will always choose a split pair of VND’s which each cover less range, but I’m keen to hear about your results if you’re willing to feedback in a further comment once you’ve used it.

@@RichLackey I would've, but ended up removing it from my order in the end and went for the freewell vnd kit (67mm).

Hello Richard. I saw your old X-S10 video. There you mentioned about IBIS fighting with OIS in lens and turning off OIS and using only the IBIS gets a better result. Is this still hold true? Also what about the Digital mode? Does it help or should I avoid it? Thanks!
@RichLackey
@RichLackey 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I haven’t shot with it for a little while and actually need to shoot with it again to see. I was definitely getting better results with non OIS lenses, relying on IBIS only. I’ll check on the weekend and reply again here.

Hi, thanks to share the interesting video. Out of curiosity: do you not think a variable ND filer is more convenient if it has a lever on the ring to be able to move the lens more easily to shoot videos? Thank you

Hi, yes a lever could be useful, I haven't seen a variable ND with a lever before. That's an interesting idea.
