Did you record in 24 fps? If yes, what was the settings of your DaVinci timeline when you exported? Still 24 or 60 fps?

Hello…I’ve downloaded the V3 version from the website, and it works great into a SDR workflow, but resultas were even better inside a HDR workflow. Just to check, both your LUT and FilmConvert expect REC 709 color and gamma, right? I’m placing them after a couple of CST and editing between these, while working in a Managed color espace with ST2088 output, and after a little tweak it works fine…not sure if there’s a better way though…

Hi. Have you ever checked the iphone 11 max pro video recording quality comparison with Google pixel 6 and Samsung A54 on GSM area. You ll find 6a looks better and A54 better in some aspects like low light. This is ofcouse SOOC and not through filmic. Was wondering if you can maybe replicate this look using such budget or mid range phones. You will be able to reach a much wider audience as many cant afford iphone or dont prefer Apple and limitations, eg external SD card slot. Regards. A54 and 6a, both looking at its price point seem to have good video recording capabilities.

Do you use color space transform in your editor like they do in Resolve? if yes, what values to you use in input color space and input gamma? then, output color space and output gamma? just curious.

I don't know what's going on but when I airdrop my Iphone footage to my Mac, it saves it as folders & not as files as it used to do you know with those nice thumbnails that shows what's in the clip. So, now each time I need to review my footage, I have to go to each folders, then open it up before seeing what's inside. It becomes nerve-racking after the 200th clip. What do you think I'm doing wrong? how can I get the clips to be imported to my Mac's download folder as files again and not as folders? thanks.

Nicely done…about this “flickering “ we see on iPhone footage in general, is it about the bitrate, youtube compression or anything else?

the still angles mixed with the sounds of the city were very well mixed! You couldn't tell it was shot on an iPhone if you hadn't listed it. Well done. Btw just released a short documentary on dreams in NYC. I'd appreciate it if you could take a look Richard :)

Man, this looks so good. If you wove this into a documentary, I would have no idea it was iPhone footage (and I have a pretty good eye for the looks of various systems). Did you use external sound? It goes to show that great cinematography is mostly just layers upon layers of well-considered decisions.

Thanks so much! Unfortunately for this one I didn’t have a proper external mic with me so this is just whatever the phone mics happened to pic up. I love how you put that! “layers upon layers of well-considered decisions.”

@@RichLackeyI'd love to see what you can do with native log in the iPhone 15 Pro. The only issue I see with this footage is the muddy shadows. I wonder if log might clean that up.

Yeah the shadows are always tough, some of this may be down to Dehancer, and how it's compressing the darker information. As an analog film emulation, especially emulating a camera negative to print positive step, the shadows can get dark, as they would with film. There is control over the tonal contrast in the print step inside the plugin, so some of this comes down to choice, it can be tweaked. However, it's true that there's also limited information captured in the first place.

Thanks so much! I have not been shooting or posting anything for such a long time. The phone cameras have become so good now, and it seems like there's not much point anymore, especially since I'm still using a 12 Pro Max. But lately I think there are plenty of creatives that have older phones and still want to get great results, it doesn't always have to be about the latest and greatest cameras all the time.

That is so awesome how you mounted a follow focus on your ND filter. I've been thinking about doing that also. It would really save from any operator error when adjusting your ND.

It seems pretty good overall, but I'm not crazy about the edge results even when you open up the lens to let more light in and get a shallower depth of field. The edge sharpness is average. You can hide it with clever enough framing that the subject is not on the edge of the frame, but it still seems like a big limitation.

How has your experience been using the gfx 100s for video? I’ve been on the fence for a while as I love the idea of a hybrid style video/photo medium format setup. But there’s just not a lot of people exploring the video capabilities. Seems to mostly be attracting landscape and fashion portrait photographers. Thanks for putting this video out there. Footage looks fantastic.

Hi Richard, would you recommend the Polar pro VND signature or mist edition for softening the digital look of iphone 14 pro? Also, do you have a preference over edition I v II? I saw in your ultimate iphone rig video you used a focus motor on the gimbal, which would be defunct with the hard stop edition II?
@RichLackey
@RichLackey Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I haven't used the mist edition, and for the PolarPro VND I only have version 1, never tested the later version. I'm still super happy with the first version, they are the best VND's I have.

Hi Richard, will mounting an 82mm VND to the 62mm thread Beastgrip 1.7x telephoto lens or 58mm 1.33x anamorphic lens cause any issues? Also, when using those beastgrip lenses, will you encounter issues using the Freewell magnetic VND system (and therefore introducing 3 or 4 layers of glass) compared to a Polar Pro VND Mist?
@RichLackey
@RichLackey Жыл бұрын
Hi Nicholas, it shouldn't cause any issue with the 1.7x telephoto and I haven't had problems yet using a VND with any of the anamorphic lenses.

Richard, do you think iphones 12 and above can handle a higher ISO without getting as noisy as earlier models? If so, what's the max iphone ISO you use now? Thanks :)
@RichLackey
@RichLackey Жыл бұрын
Great question, I'm not really sure because I haven't tested the newest iPhones. I think noise reduction tools in post production have become a lot better, so cleaning up noisy video is easier than it used to be. I still maintain the lowest ISO number possible when shooting with a phone.

I have to be honest...I don't see anything better than what I get out of my Panasonic GH5S with good lenses. Maybe it's just KZbin compression though. That's always been a serious problem with any camera sample video posted online. I still want to get my greedy hands on a GFX 100S.

Amazing footage as always Richard thank you very much! A quick question since you have tried several of these lenses before.. is the MK2 visibly better than the previous generation, or its actually kind of the same optical formula? I know BeastGrip is also about to release a MK2 version of their 1.55 anamorphic and am quite interested as well to see how that one looks like and what kind of real world improvements does it bring. The previous (current) generation 1.55 is a little soft specially on the corners as these anamorphics are specially when used with newer phones that have larger sensors and lenses. Thanks again😊🎥
