Love your videos Jebbie! I kid you not..There is no other video on KZbin that covers the ‘tilt side mirror while reversing’ topic so well. I remember the first day I took delivery of my xc60 and was struggling to find parking in Brooklyn and I had the Auto Tilt while reverse enabled. I watched it tilt when I put it in reverse and thought that’s really sweet but was really confused when it remained tilted even after I put it back in drive. I turned that setting off and have never bothered about it for the past 5 months.. I am going to check it out now 😃

Like you we have grown up and been driving without them for 20+ years but with the poor visibility in the XC40 using the 360 and cams will be paramount. Love the demo! Great video and a great series, thanks. My 2021 XC40 had automatic parking which was a fantastic feature that I used frequently when reverse parking in a narrow street. I was very sad to see that Volvo removed it from new XC40s, especially as it’s now increasingly being included as standard in many cheaper cars. However your explanation about the parking lines and mirrors is very helpful. There’s also a setting to have both mirrors tilt down automatically when the car is in reverse, but now I’ll switch to your method of button pushing as I often want to see traffic coming behind me before parking or leaving a parking spot, which is hard to do when the mirrors are both tilted.
@JebRevsUp2 жыл бұрын
Thanks glad that helps and I also do hope park assist pilot returns in the future.

It’s unfortunate that Volvo doesn’t show both the rear view and 360 view simultaneously. Switching views while moving in tight spaces is dangerous. The screen is large enough for both views. Cars with smaller screens do this well.
@JebRevsUp Жыл бұрын
Hi, I see why you would say that if you have moved from Audi as an example and you moved to Volvo. I personally find the Volvo system easier because I use it so often compared to other brands. A large 360 view and sensitive sensors usually work well if you do it a few times. I would find the Audi confusing as there is too much information showed at one time. It really doesn’t matter how your system is displayed but how you use it. That was the reason for making the video. If you have just moved to Volvo please do try and he system I put because it does work well if you get used to it. Thanks for commenting

@@JebRevsUp I appreciate your videos. I was looking for tips on my new S60 and came across your channel. With time I'll develop a new flow but I'm still in the adjustment phase. My experience tonight: When driving into a parking spot I went to turn on the 360 camera. That took multiple taps. I had to stop to do so. Once it was on I needed to back up to reposition. That took away the 360 view to turn on the rear camera which I didn't need. Then to pull forward I had to tap the screen multiple times again. Again, I had to stop so I could look at the tap target which took two attempts to hit. So what could have been a smooth process was disruptive. Then when pulling into my garage the 360 camera didn't turn on until I was already past the door frame -- so too late. Had I turned it on manually I would have had to stop to tap the screen several times then start moving again. During this time the engine would have shut off then restarted, adding inefficiency.

We traded in our 2018 VW Golf for the Volvo XC 40. The golf had a huge info screen. So does the XC 40. However on the Golf the whole screen was the back up camera. On the XC 40 only half the screen is the camera. Not sure why the whole screen isn't used.
@JebRevsUp Жыл бұрын
Not sure why they used half the screen either. I can’t say that has been a problem for me either. However people coming from other cars will always prefer certain things Golf is also a great car. Over the years I have had three GTIs, it was that good a car it had to be repeated. If you like that drive of the golf then you really leave the XC40 Recharge over time because it really feels like a EV hot hatch but with more space and SUV features.

Learn a lot from this video even though I own a VW Tiguan! 😃 One thing I don’t like is parking in the kerbside at night and no pole light or side mirror light to help you see the kerbside in the dark (no VW feature). Is Volvo have this feature?
@JebRevsUp2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. I’m not aware of any lighting like that. I will definitely b trying that out to see. However the cameras are really good on the Volvo and the view on screen is big. I find it to be a very user friendly system that is clear. Hope we can welcome you to the Volvo family one day ! Appreciate you watching and commenting.

I really hope when you reverse you could have both back up camera on the bottom and 360 on the top, i mean serious, all the car i drove before have both functions showing at the same time, such a deal breaker for me not picking XC40
@JebRevsUp Жыл бұрын
Tu everyone has different preferences, there is nothing wrong with that at all. I get to drive a lot of different cars and ironically I have the opposite problem. I have gotten so used to parking with the Volvo system. As an example I drove a new Mazda CX5. Big shout out to them for hugely improved camera quality! However I struggle a little with using a small 360 like that and too many views on one screen. That was one of the reasons for making the video, if you use a system a few times it will become very user friendly. I am huge evangelist of the XC40 and would love it you would give another try! Please consider some other reasons to like the car. 1. Boron steel construction- please see how intact the cabin stays is this video. It is the reason my son only travels in Volvo’s- kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5LbiHp5g9Sta7M Secondly the XC40 has a perfect footprint for cities, small and easy to park but both cargo and cabin fit a wide variety of loading- kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2O7Yp5njp5_jJY Thanks for commenting

Thanks Jebbie for this, but I wonder if the adaptive cruise distance to the car in front, is measured in time not car-lengths? As speed increases the safe separation between cars, also increase and the only way to control this is by time (typical 3 seconds). What do you think, or have I misunderstood it?
@JebRevsUp2 жыл бұрын
You are correct and it has been brought up before. That is why I made a correction in about section. Although it is easier to talk about them as spaces because that's visible. But it is a very important point that it varies with speed.

Are you sure your model has it? Check under the mirrors and confirm they are cameras as well the Volvo badge in the front. If there are cameras and there is no 360 then you need to call your dealership to figure out the problem. If not there then you most likely have a core model or a non advanced package car if it is prior to 2022. Hope that helps

Hi, Just my opinion but I'd like to offer balance for the advice heard here. At 8:24 it proves that the driver does not trust the monitor he is teaching you to use. the monitor 360 cam showed he had room to continue the turn past the bumper and he saw out his windshield that he was too close for comfort. So I suggest you first and foremost park using your eyes out your window, just as this driver did to make the first and final decision. Also learn how to use your mirrors when backing up. I only use the 360 to verify a question in my mind on occasion.

Thanks for the comment. I completely understand. Unfortunately you cannot disable that feature as far as I am aware but I will check on that too. It doesn't just come on at slower speed, you need to be in close proximity to a threat. So it is nice to have the visual warning. You could try tapping on the camera icon or home button. I have never tried but will do so in future.

The reverse camera in the C40 is the worst system I have ever used. - the extreme fisheye view is useless for judging distance and gives you horrible situational awareness. My wife has a Range Rover Evoque, that’s a similar sized and priced car and you cannot compare the two. - the sensors beep impending collision when you are nowhere near hitting something. I know Volvo want to keep you safe, but when everything is “danger, nothing is danger. - the reverse lights are too weak. You just can’t see behind you. - the camera is too exposed to water dropping off the trunk and you need to wipe it every time you go out or it’s fuzzy. This Volvo C40 one of the hardest cars I have owned to “place” when parking and reversing and that’s saying a lot. My Range Rover Defender 90 (latest version) was easier to park, as was my full sized Land Rover Discovery. Frankly this car is less confident to reverse than any of the sports cars I’ve owned (R8, V12 Vantage, Alfa 4C, Porsche etc). It’s perplexing considering their whole “safety” angle and frankly it wouldn’t cost much to fix. The rest of the car is pretty good.
@JebRevsUp2 жыл бұрын
Barry you have very good car history, and have had some great cars. I hope an EX90 order is in your future as I believe a car enthusiast like you would probably be an early adopter of a next generation EV. I totally understand that not everyone is going to like or relate to every car the same or like how all the technology the same. I have not tried out the new Landry cameras but I do believe the 3D system is quite nice. When I was at BMW many clients had similar opposing views about X4and X6 vs an X5 for example and I know fully understand that the shape and reduced visibility of the swept back SUV means additional need for cameras to be good and is controversial. yesterday I was following a colleague as we were leaving work and the back of the C40 all lit up is so futuristic and beautiful at night. It scores so high in design for me. It also drives really well and for a lot of buyers it ticks off the boxes in safety and sustainability categories. Because I park so many cars everyday I decided to do this video to help everyone use cameras better and I hope this does help with your C40. Thanks for commenting.

8:55: I do understand that this is a demonstration, but in real life, it would be pretty dumb to stop there. Just go through into the next spot, and you won't have to reverse out. The less reversing, the less risk.
