After retiring from the US Army after 28 years of service. I went on a year and a half, 36 country backpacking trip that led me from Finland and ending in the Philippines and doing it under 10k. That experience has led me to do some amazing things like hopping into a cage with a very large White Siberian Tiger where I was able to pet him. That was one of the greatest moments of my life. Now, because of videos like this one, I have a new goal/passion. Overlanding and seeing more of this world. Thank you, and I hope to meet you out on the trails someday.

I really appreciate this video for several reasons... but the main one that I take away from this and I hope others will as well is that you can always make more money, but you can’t make more time. And this is so important for families with kids because you only get 18 years before that child goes off to do great things on their own and that time goes by so quickly...

Yes, who is this Carol person, that we see all the time,but know nothing about ? Id love to hear some of Carols perspective, not "moms" perspective, but Carols ? Whats your Story Carol ? What do you love to Do? How do stay healthy and strong, you look healthy and strong anyway, always carry huge backpacks up mountains !? And very WELL done by the way, on living this Lifestyle, mostly in the background, when im certain, your the glue that keeps things ship shape and moving fwd, all the time. :)

Great video and advice. I come from a sailing background where my late wife and I had a 37’ sailboat that I had updated and prepared to sail to Mexico and beyond in 2018. Well, unfortunately she past away in Sept of 2017. I sailed solo to Alaska for 6 months and during that trip I decided that this was not going to work without my Snugs. Sold the boat and bought a RH drive 3rd gen Toyota Hilux, tricked it out as I did with the sailboat and now do photography trips to the Mojave and back country of BC. Looking to now head to South America when this COVID is over with. So, my message is to Not Wait. Because tomorrow may not always be there for some people. Live for today and make the best of this ride called Life. Keep the great videos and inspiration coming...maybe see you on the trail.

Wondered how you financed your "excursions." Enjoyed your story of how this lifestyle came about. If I may I'd like to tell you a little about my lifestyle, not to usual from yours, just went about it a little differently. My life of 35 years of military and government service gave me many opportunities to not only visit, but live in foreign countries. I went in the US Armed Forces in 1968, before years end I was in Vietnam til 1971. During my military career I moved (starting in 1968) 50 times until I finally retired in 2012. Now believe it or not, I live in the house I grew up in....imagine that!!! I've lived in numerous Asian countries a total of 20 years or so that included military and government service. Had the opportunity to visit Ukraine twice and spent 3 weeks in Russia. Always wanted to go to Russia. Went to Communist China twice, even played gold at Beijing International Golf Club. Imagine the Great wall in the background of your approach shot to the green. once in a life time experience. My "excursions" were doing duty in a foreign country and as I was traveling I was still receiving my military retirement and civil service salary. Guess I'm sharing this to say we did the same thing but differently. At 71 years old now, 100% disable American Veteran, I still have the "wonder lust" as I call it, especially during this lock down of a pandemic. I spent much time as a US Marine in a military tent in the cold and snow of Korea and I really have NO desire to go "camping" anymore, especially at my age. It's for you younger folks. My live now consists of spending my days at home with my 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier. My biggest dream even at my present age is to have a cabin, off grid at a lake environment.....wow, much like your cabin. But I have neither the strength nor capability to build one myself even if I had help.I'm pretty much debt free and GOD has provided me with a rather comfortable life in a small town ion the deep south. Need to stop, got carried away, I'm sorry.
@EFRT4 жыл бұрын
What an interesting story you have! Thank you for sharing and thank you for your service! Much respect. We also have a friend who is a Marine (retired) and she spent a lot of time in a tent in the snow of Korea. She said the same thing... She has no desire to spend any more time in a tent. 😀 That cold experience was enough! Once again, thank you for sharing your story. We are glad you found our KZbin channel and we hope you enjoy the adventure. Have a wonderful day.

thank you for your service sir! im currently serving but its not for me. how you put in 35yrs is beyond me. it kills me to leave my wife and daughter. ive made the decision to re-enlist 1 more time and then get out. when i get back from my deployment, we plan to buy a house to airbnb out for a passive income. if we can get a few homes to have a good passive income, i will overland. unlike most military members from my experience, i dont waste money and have a goal. God put me in a command that deploys me 9mons out of the year with a really high per diem rate where i deploy to, and in turn letting us buy investment properties. anyways, thank you so much for your service.

@@EFRT Very kind of you to take time to reply. Key to what we both did: DO IT WHILE YOU ARE YOUNG!!!! As previously stated, I'd like to travel again, but I'm worn out. Hey there! I am currently entertaining the idea of taking my life in the nomad direction. This has always been a dream of mine since I was younger. So it’s pretty cool to me that this lifestyle is becoming more socially accepted. Not like I cared anyway but that’s nice. Essentially there are two main factors left in deciding to pull the trigger. One being financial, but the one I’m looking for advice on is the legality of this. So obviously you can’t just set up camp any old place, but what other laws revolving around activities such as this, exist? Does anybody know if the legality of this lifestyle is threatened in any way?
@EFRT2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know there’s no legal issues with living this way. You will need to maintain an address before receiving mail etc. but depending on what country are in we don’t know if any issues. Have a wonderful day!

I love watching your videos but I have to admit that this video is just a sweet story which no one in their right mind would believe. It is quite disappointing to see that all these words are said with a straight face and you expect us to believe them... A Jeep Rubicon ($50K or more) + heavily modified Jeep Limited (around same price) + Mercedes RV with base price of $140K + 5 Specialized bikes (no less than $5k for all 5 together) + snowboards and surf boards for whole family + 2 very expensive tents + MacBook Pros (several of them - each one going for minimum of $2200) + large screen gaming consoles + various pull-trailers cost an amount that is much larger than what most people have in their banks at retirement age. Needless to try calculating all the flights (enormous amount given that 5 people are flying) and ski resort tickets (which even families with very decent income struggle to cover for more than a 5-day trip). And...people on a budget don't go for Arcterix jackets... Again - really cute videos but please don't lie in the face of your viewers because we are all well aware that with 70K KZbin subscribers and the tiny number of views the videos get it is impossible to fund a 5-year long trip around the world even after selling a house. Unless it was a 10+ million dollar house that has already been paid off (which also points to significant income).
