Strategy is key. I didn't travel for 2 years. I save and paid off all my crazy debt like you guys did. I travel at least 7 times a year and I pay ahead. I travel alone 70% of the time. If you wait on people to do something you will never do anything. Save your coins and go for it!

My husband and I realized years ago that we were sick of being in debt, having a mortgage, and not being able to travel like we wanted. In early 2015 two of my grandparents passed away and it really kicked my butt into gear (life is way too short). So we started fixing up our large house to sell. We got an offer after only three days on the market. We paid cash for 2.36 acres and the camper that was set up on the property. We lived in that camper for six months while we built a 576 square feet house. About a year after we moved in we were able to pay off our mortgage, so at that point we were absolutely DEBT FREE! We don't spend money on jewelry, expensive clothes, brand new phones, and other junk and we drive our vehicles until the wheels fall off. We bought a conversion van that we sort of turned into an "RV" and have gone cross country a couple of times. We go on road trips all the time since the van saves on hotel expenses. We leave in two days to go on the Carnival Sunshine, we'll be going on the Mardi Gras next month, and my son is on a plane over the Atlantic as I type this to embark on a two week trip to Austria and Slovakia (he paid for his own trip). We are NOT rich by any means. We just save, paid off debt, and now work part type selling on Ebay and other selling platforms. We aren't rolling in dough AT ALL (we probably now make less than $30,000 a year), but we prioritize and travel is at the top of that list... it's what we love and it's how we like spending our days here on earth. I don't want to die with a bunch of useless crap in my house, so we spend our money on traveling and making memories.

I'm a teacher. People think we have a great deal of time off. Well, it appears that way, but there is so much to do, your work runs over to your weekends and holidays. You have to MAKE yourself stop working....even in the summer's when we teach summer school just to make ends meet. Any raise that I get, I save. I finally paid off my car (it took four years) and my credit cards. That money goes into savings for travel and an emergency fund. I also save ALL my loose change....it adds up. My daughter does my hair, nail salon only once per month or every six weeks. I also have a side business where I bake and sell cakes on the side. My best friend wonders how I have a savings and how I'm able to travel (she makes twice as much money than me). I don't buy unnecessary stuff.

What I do for my vacation (cruising) make my down payment, receive the pay by date then divide the balance by how many months I have left, then make monthly payment just like a bill. I also make sure that my cruise is one to two years out, giving me time to pay it off.

That is good advice! I LOVE to travel - London, Las Vegas, FL, NY, Canada, etc... but never wanted to cruise because I thought I would be sick the whole time. When my bestie had her 50th in 2019, I went on my first cruise despite my fears... CHANGED and UPGRADED my travel life. My husband and I were like why didn't we do this before, my daughter has her time and we get ours and we've added more destinations to our list and crossed off a few. Liberating. But only you can decide what is good for you. ❤❤❤

I do the same thing to travel, save. Now that I am retired I got rid of my satellite and kept my wifi and stream. So I save $100 a month from dropping satellite. I also dropped 2 other services that I can do myself. I hate any kinds of bugs so every other month, I had a exterminator come out. Now I spray the perimeter of my house myself so that's more money towards vacation, etc etc. It can be done. I have booked 2 cruises so far and checking out deals for the next two. Just be creative.

Good tips. I like the savings account just for travel and including travel in your budget. We have always done short trips like on a weekend or a 3 day weekend. It was affordable, but tiring since we drove to our destinations. I think our cheapest trip for a family of 4 was when we went on Megabus for $10 per person each way to NYC. The tolls alone to NYC are more than $80. We used public transportation there, stayed in Staten Island, and rode the ferry across each day. Of course, that was pre-covid. Now we just drive to other states and stay for a couple of days. This year was our first time actually staying a week at the beach and just relaxing. It was in March. We usually go to the beach during the off-season, when parking is free and hotel rates are low. I considered those timeshare vouchers but never did it. Now I won't, based on your experience. A cruise is next on our agenda to see if we like it. I have enjoyed your cruise vlogs.

Great tips. Something that i did was stop spending so much money on clothes. I researched capsule wardrobes and found i really enjoy having one. I also stopped buying a ton of makeup. I found some things that work for me and don't buy every eyeshadow palette that comes out. How many neutral eyeshadows does one person need? How many lipsticks do you really need? Changing the way i think about possessions such as clothes, purses, shoes, etc, really helped me realize how much money i could save just by reducing how much i buy. After that, it really seeped into other areas of my life. I don't own dozens of colors of nail polish. I don't have 5 or 6 different kinds of body lotion. And don't even get me started on eating out. Lord that's expensive. Minimalism and capsule wardrobes aren't for everyone but it really has helped me save a ton of money for travel.

It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s not my first love and I don’t reach for it when planning my personal travels. International all inclusives are my thing because I like cultural vacations. If you see me and hubby alone we are usually on a international vacation, if you see others with us…. It’s usually a cruise. Like I’ve said many many many times before, I enjoy it when I do it but it’s not what I reach for outside of group travel. Group cruises are lit! We encourage novice travelers or virgins to try cruising as its easier and less intimidating. It’s a great start and most fall in love with cruising. Now that I’ve gone on virgin voyages, that may make a cruiser out of me lol. You can have a first love and still enjoy something else as well. Plus… people have the right to change their mind based on experience too, anything and anyone that isn’t changing is dead.

🤣😂🤣I didn’t know about timeshares twenty years ago-Input a thing in at a restaurant to “win a trip” aka TIMESHARE. I had no problem telling them no, but it was for Massanutten sp? , also. The beds 🛏️ were so damn hard-worst bed I ever slept on including air mattresses that deflated-the mattress was like a brick 🧱. I guess my husband’s aunt was very cheap (she was an accountant), but they use to travel off timeshares all the time many years ago in Florida. My in laws got sucked into one at VA Beach 🏝️ twenty plus years ago, so we go there yearly now, but only two kids out four would go when little w their grandparents & alternate, but the past few years, we all go. I would sit through the spiel-my husband won’t do it though 😂.

Hey! We do the same thing with cruises. We try to take a cruise every other year. In the years we don't cruise, we take a trip (usually anywhere we can drive to within 4 hours.. living in Jax FL helps). We are always saving. It's just a good habit to have. I always tell folks that aren't accustomed to vacationing to start with a cruise. Cruising is easy to pay over time (up to 2 years) and it gives opportunity to see what you like.

I personally made travel my life. So I take no days off unless it’s for a vacation or rest needed a day after vacation. But lucky for me I get 120 hrs pto and 80 hrs sick time. To afford it I just don’t shop and do some gig work on the side of my full time job.

Thanks for the Grand Palladium video. Took my wife there in March for her retirement gift. She loved it. She wanted to stay forever. Wife and I are both in our 40’s retired from the Military and became empty nesters. Traveling is our do thing. Will be in Dominican Republic next year. Any recommendation?

Literally the same thing with traveling. I go to about 3-4 places a year.I have the same 2 girls I travel with and we always 3 day weekend trips. Ppl often ask why such a short time. And I often say. its to get a taste of a new place. that way If I really enjoy it. I take a vaca there for a longer stay at a later time. and I do not play about my PTO I use it for 2 things, my travel or my kids. I have about 110 hours right now. I take off Friday.. be back to work on Monday. For my children, we take the advantage of the Good Friday holiday. they dont have school, and Im off from work. This year we went to San Diego. and came back Easter Sunday. Had a Blast! Im a single mom to 4 children with one in his freshman year in college. Trust me, if you love to travel it can be done.

Thanks guys for sharing, this was some good info for any & everybody to implicate in their lives…sharing is caring😊 Also in another one of your lives you going to grandmas birthday celebration, and Stanley mentioned he was going to her home in Tappahannock… I was like wow that’s not far from me (Port Royal), might know their family. My dad is from Essex county ( big/ small world)!
@LifeWithUsTV3 жыл бұрын
I’m (Lynette) from Tappahannock but my family is from Farnham and Stanley from Lancaster. Our old church was in Loretto so we went through port Royal several times a week.

2 UP, 2 Down. Just 40 minutes down I-95. That's what's Up. Enjoyed the video. We had similar experiences in our quest to cruise more. I found the jewel you two dropped about, everybody isn't going to move the way you move and so when traveling with others you have to make sure that they're on the same level/page- to be on 100. That's a Fact. Putting that plan together and executing it is how to make it happen.
