We moved to Nazaré, Portugal last year and have already been to San Sebastian twice this year - great city! Congrats to you.

I was in SS this past September for just a day it was busy with the film festival but was absolutely perfect weather. One correction for the Schengen short stay visa that US citizens automatically get when entering the Schengen area is 90 days in a 180 day period, so 180 days per year, non-sequentially. I look forward to more videos. 👍🏻

You're right! I added the correction in the description, thanks :) I haven't been to the film festival yet, looking forward to next summer here.

Interesting getting a mortgage in Spain with no history, etc. would be interested to learn more about it. Could you please share the type of documentation for opening a bank account and get the NIE?

NZ for the win!! But yeah, we in Malaga, travel options are priority. SS great in August though - its way too hot down here on the costa. We looked at a summer condo option in SS but could not justify tying up capital. Maybe we need to take another look. If you dont mind sharing ballpark costs and value - also can you walk to everything or need a car & garage (we dont need car here in malaga).

I haven't been to Malaga yet but definitely want to check it out! The heat would get to me. SS is extremely walkable and a car is not necessary if you live in the city. I'm going to post another video in the next week or two that talks about the accessibility here, and will likely make a video about the cost of living here.Having said that, San Sebastian is one of the most expensive cities in Spain, but things like groceries are relatively (compared to the US) cheap.

Curious what your experience is speaking Spanish but not Basque? Thanks!

Basque poeple are less narrow minded than Catalan. You can easily live in the spanish Basque country speaking only Castillan.

Pretty much everyone in Donostia speaks Spanish, so not knowing Euskara hasn’t been problematic. It’s common to throw in some basic words in Euskera to greet people or say thank you.
