Old buildings always bring their problems, yet if you have the skills it's fixable.🛠

I have done a lot of renovating old houses and building two new houses. I am a 77 Year old women living in Canada. We get cold winters here too. When renovating, things appear and projects go sideways. Make a cup of coffee and just take it one problem at a time. You will become very good at fixing things and thinking outside the box. The rewards are worth it and may take a while. Love your videos and nice to see the country side. I live in a Nunesco area of natural beauty here on the Bruce Peninsula of Ontario. Lion’ s Head, a small town of only 500 residence right on Greogian Bay. Look forward to watching your progress.

Thank you for your kind words 😊 that’s some good advice. We are trying to take it one project at a time. Often it feels like one step forward is two steps back as more issues show up along the way. But it will all be worth it in the end 😊

That red plywood that was inside the original shed wall is called Båtplywood, boat plywood, it is resistant to water and many uses it for the deck in trailers. You might find use for it!
@Projectsweden6 ай бұрын
We used the wood in the same place inside the shed to help block the snow from blowing in and strengthen the wall.

Hi from Australia. Thanks for the update. The lean to looks great! Good to see nothing going to waste. Must have been so helpful having your parents there. Everything will happen when the timing is right for your renovation.

Really as bad as the leak was, it will result in the house looking better when it’s all finished. Taking everything off is allowing us to move the window and make the porch look better (one with the house). I believe everything happens for a reason :)

I fixed a lot of fence gates in Texas by simply pulling up with a cable and turn buckle from the saggy spot to the top hinge.. like I said maybe it works this way or maybe it doesn’t 😅 time will tell.

Nice build, but if you are going to paint it in traditional swedish colors the top board just under the roof should be white, like on the main shed.
@Projectsweden5 ай бұрын
Yeah… we figured buying a bucket for one board was a bit over the top. But you got a point :)

Follow a few thousand years of practical experience and put in a tension brace (lower outside corner to top hinge-side corner - opposite what you are going for, which is a compression brace) The best form of compression brace "in plane" is none of the above, and has a point on the end that connects to both sides of each corner, with the midpoint of the brace hitting each corner. Call it corner to corner. That is inferior to an "out of plane" brace in the same position that overlaps the backside of the face frame and is glued and screwed to the face boards; both are inferior to the tension brace, though you can use both for the classic X brace scheme - but the tension side will do most of the work

Your door brace is incorrect; needs to be put with brace on top of opening side so weight will push against bottom hinge side to stop sagging.
@Projectsweden6 ай бұрын
Derrick here, I’d agree with you if it were a picket fence gate but because the boards are horizontal and more than 2 meters long placing the weight on the bottom hinge would allow hinge binding This way the weight is well above the top hinge on the vertical board and below the bottom hinge on the horizontal., more like a ranch bump gate than a fence or door support but maybe you’re right. Only time will tell! Thanks for the comment!
