Thank you for sharing your philosophy on holidays. You are so articulate and seem to have mastered life. Listening and watching the first 12.22 minutes of the video was like being at a mini therapy session. I love your point about feeding one’s soul first before worrying about anything else. Your family and friends are very fortunate to have you in their lives. Peace to you all. I wish you the happiest of holidays in your new home.

Bravo! This will be our first Christmas without exchanging gifts. My kids are adults, so this was agreed to later in life, but I love how we focus more on being together, eating together, and making memories together. Secondly, I really heard the message about self-care being critical before you have the will to give to others. I’ve neglected myself, and as a result, I’ve been stingy with my free time. Thank you!

OMG, I absolutely love your comment! I'm so glad you've chosen to conserve your precious time and energy by not spending it on finding things no one needs, and instead focusing on more enjoyable activities. I hear you loud and clear about being mindful of our time; I'm working on that too. As women, we often put others first; whether that's due to nature or nurture, it's crucial to remind each other to find balance. The message that happiness comes from material things is nonsense. Thank you again for your positive energy and kind words; they mean the world to me.

Coming from a Spanish culture, the stress, expectations, guilt, obligation, tradition, etc,, is REAL!! It's absolutely exhausting!! I loathe being forced to do anything "just because it's tradition"!! I too am misunderstood as it seems this comes across to others as "selfish". I've come to the realization that I'm not responsible for people's reactions. You have to keep living your own truth! Keep on keeping on and thank you for such a delicious recipe!!

I so appreciate it when people normalize that family and family-oriented holidays can be painful for some of us. Thank you! There are countless news stories of horrible child abuse and neglect, yet the default assumption that every parent loves their child is so widespread that I felt self-conscious and judged as a young adult not seeing my family out of self-preservation. I'm so grateful that the younger generation is getting to see reality portrayed more accurately and that therapists like Patrick Teahan, Ingrid Clayton, Dr. Ramani, and Jay Reid are providing clarity, validation, and hope on KZbin. 🤓 Giving myself the GIFT of healing and learning what makes me happy has been one of the best things I've ever done! 💖😃💖 Parents who truly accept and cherish their kids are always so moving to me, and I'm glad you and Josh found each other early and raised your kids with love. ❤ Happy Holidays! ✨

Thank you so much for sharing your story and these powerful insights. What a beautiful gift to yourself! 💖 I am not familiar with all the people you mentioned, but I do know some of their work and will definitely check out the others. I also plan to delve deeper into these themes when I share more about my spiritual journey. It is something I feel deeply passionate about. I am so touched by your kind words about us and our family. I’m exhausted! Christmas has gotten more and more complicated and less and less enjoyable every year. My husband and I do not have kids of our own, and I am learning to see the positives in that. I’m a few years from retirement, and we plan to start our international adventures then. I have to admit part of the rationale for that is to break free and focus on ourselves and squeezing every last drop out of life. I can’t seem to do that when I am home. Thank you for your insight. 🙏

Loved watching you make those empanadas! It was inspiring me to want to try making them. My mother was born and raised in Italy, so I stick with seafood on Christmas Eve and make stuffed portobello mushrooms with turkey sausage, herbs, and Gorgonzola. Also a penne pasta with shrimp and a herbed cream sauce. Lots of Italian flavors. I make the same dinner every year because my parents always came over and it makes me feel more connected to them since they transitioned. Christmas was so magical as a child, even though my upbringing wasn't happy either. Unfortunately with all the hype, stress, superficiality, and consumer culture we have created around Christmas it has definitely lost its glow and magic, not to talk about the drama in many families (I'm happy without any😅). I still enjoy the Christmas magic though, but to me it's in nature when I'm alone, in the snow far away from people, and in beautiful night sky with fresh air and stars, candle lights and perhaps a good story about nature fairies and magic. I just love silence, beauty... And peace. I love the values you have found in your family - so inspiring as always; so refined, so thoughtful, intelligent and aware. Have a beautiful Christmas time ❤❤❤

Thank you so much for sharing your reflections. I completely understand how the magic of Christmas can feel different as we grow older, especially with all the noise and stress that can surround it. There is something so special about reconnecting with simplicity and peace. Your kind words about our family truly mean so much to me. I am grateful to share these values, and it is always heartwarming to know they resonate with others. Wishing you a beautiful Christmas filled with the serenity and magic you cherish✨

I can identify with your philosophy about the holidays. Over a decade ago I realized the preparation, stress, expectations, guilt and financial cost weren’t worth it-the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze! Now that I have altered my activities, I observe friends and family who complain non-stop about all the things they “have” to do, scheduling shopping, being frustrated over purchasing the right gift, travel, trying to make sure kids and grandkids have equal amounts of gifts, giving so many gifts to kids, the complaints about how expensive it all is, how exhausted they are and on and on. I quit decorating because it’s just me. My neighbors give me crap. I don’t give gifts and ask friends and family to donate to a charity instead. What I do is bake. I enjoy the process, creativity and give something from me. Last year I made lots of cookies. This year I’m baking my hotly demanded cinnamon rolls. I’m also baking homemade dinner rolls to give friends and family for their holiday dinner. I long ago shrugged off the guilt. I’m happier giving to charity and baking love gifts. During the year, if I find a gift someone would like, I get it for them without it being a reason or holiday. That’s me. Do what makes you happy.

Thank you for sharing this. I love how you have created a holiday season that feels authentic to you and brings you joy without all the unnecessary stress and pressure. The idea of giving throughout the year just because is so beautiful and thoughtful. You are absolutely right, what matters most is doing what makes you happy. Wishing you a joyful and peaceful holiday season filled with the things you love most. ❤️

I really like the atmosphere of this video, it is so calm, warm and cozy. At the same time, I feel that your words reach me, a bit like listening to a wise aunt (since I am Nathaniel's age). I'm looking forward to my Christmas, spent with my family, since for the past few years I spent most of my time in the car, traveling between families. Happy holidays

Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to know that the atmosphere I tried to create resonates with you. I'm so glad my words reach you, and I’ll happily take the role of the ‘wise aunt’! 😊 Spending Christmas with your family sounds wonderful, especially after all those years on the road. I hope this year’s celebration is everything you’re looking forward to, calm, warm, and filled with joy. Wishing you a beautiful holiday season with your loved ones!

Hi Cecilia, the reason I like your videos is because I love the french countryside. It just seems perfect. The houses have so much charm, and the whole area looks lovely and quiet. It would be a perfect choice for a small holiday home. The geography of France is almost stunning. My only concern would be taxes, and postal services, or the occasional annoying neighbour. I have relatives about 4 hours drive from Nice in Brescia. One of my biological cousins teaches medical science in the University of Brescia. It is only a small city. I like your empanadas. I bought tortillas today and some shrimp and am going to try and make burritos. After all, I have some Spanish blood, I need to celebrate.

Thank you so much for your lovely message. The French countryside really is something special, with its charm and tranquility, it feels like stepping into a storybook. A small holiday home here would be such a dream, and I agree the geography of France is truly breathtaking. Taxes and postal services can be considerations, but the charm and lifestyle here often make up for any challenges. How wonderful that you have relatives near Brescia. It sounds like a lovely place, and having family there must make it even more meaningful. I love that you are celebrating your Spanish heritage with homemade burritos, that sounds delicious. Enjoy your time in the kitchen, and thank you again for your kind words about my empanadas. Wishing you all the best.

Growing up, my family was also not very religious, but we'd have the obligatory dinner, tree and gift exchange. As an adult, I have accepted that my beliefs don't align with the common trends and expectations and that is totally okay. This has been the first year that I proudly say, I do not celebrate holidays," and not even because of nostalgia. This also makes me an in-demand pet sitter. I think it's great that you are creating an environment that celebrates genuine, unfabricated connection. May your family day be joyous!

Thank you so much for sharing your journey and perspective. It’s truly empowering to embrace what feels authentic to you, even when it goes against common expectations. Thank you for your kind words about our focus on genuine connection, that really means a lot. Wishing you joy and fulfillment in all the ways you choose to celebrate life!

Completely agree. I am guilty of feeling selfish if I put myself first. Caring for our own needs is not an act of neglect towards others, but an investment in our ability to be a better, more present family member. It's not selfish; it's necessary for your well-being and the well-being of those you love. The empanadas look delicious, and I will try making them next week!

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! It’s so true, prioritizing yourself is not selfish at all, but such an essential act of love for both yourself and those around you. When we take care of our own needs, we’re able to show up with more presence, energy, and love for the people who matter most to us. I’m so glad this resonates with you. And I’m thrilled you’re going to try making the empanadas. Have so much fun with it, and remember, the secret ingredient is always a little love. Let me know how they turn out. What a lovely video, Cecilia!! I appreciate all the things you said about taking care of one’s self so we can be more available and more giving to others. It’s true, because if I find I’m exhausted and not taking care of myself, I’m less likely to want to be available for my family and friends. I missed your Zoom call this weekend and I’ll have to jump over there and catch up. Have a lovely holiday season with your family!

Ahh!! Fellow Argentiniens. !! 😊 My husband and I have lived in Australia for the past 40 years, and we still make empanadas . Love your holiday philosophy; at our place, since my children have become adults ,we do a secret Santa; which means each of us only buys one present ( we pre-establish the value and pull the name out of a box or hat way in advance) Totally stress free. For Christmas lunch , everyone brings a plate to share. The company is what matters❤

How lovely to connect with fellow Argentinians! 😊 I love that you have kept the tradition of making empanadas alive, even after so many years in Australia. Your holiday approach sounds absolutely perfect, stress-free, full of love, and focused on what truly matters. YUUUUUMMMMMM!!!! They look delish! Thanks for sharing your heart and insights while keeping your hands busy. Reminds me of how Mr. Rogers would talk to the kids while he put on his sweater and changed his shoes. So calming. I've been preparing Ruby for traveling instead of gifts for a couple of years. She is resistant (of course because she gets so many presents & doesn't yet see the value in the 'experience' model, but I'm working on it)... I do love Christmas decorations however and am looking forward to the first La Chev xmas in 25! Have a wonderful Holiday with your Beautiful Family! xoxo M
@AnArtistsLifeYTКүн бұрын
Ha ha, yes they are super yummy! You crack me up with the Mr. Rogers comparison, you are always so spot-on with your analogies. Giving up gifts can definitely be a challenge, but once they experience the joy and value of meaningful experiences, there really is no turning back. I think what you’re doing with Ruby is amazing, even if she doesn’t fully realize it now. The things fade, but the emotions and memories of experiences stay with her forever. I love Christmas decorations too, but in a more laid-back way. Once I finish the living room, dining room, and kitchen, I plan to share how I decorate for Christmas, but this year with everything going on, I had zero energy for it. I cannot wait to see what you create with your new château and your incredible creativity. I know you are going to knock it out of the park! Happy Holidays to you and your love ones with all my love!!!!!

Since my mother passed away in 2021, I've done less each year for the holidays. The first year, we tried our usual get together but none of us were really into it (along with drama with my younger daughter), last year I suggested eating out as a family and my sister included so many extended family members its was hard to enjoy being with everyone. This year, I'll go see my grandkids at some point but I'll mainly spend the day at home with my son's dog (sitting while my son travels). I'm actually looking forward to it and will probably start planning my own trip for next year. I've finally embraced that I just don't like the holidays and that's ok. 🙂 I'm happy to hear you were able to get a visa extension and I look forward to many more videos from you and Josh in 2025. Happy Holidays!!

Spending the day with your son’s dog and planning a trip for next year sounds like such a peaceful and meaningful way to enjoy the season. I’m so glad you’re looking forward to it, and it’s such a good reminder that it’s perfectly okay not to love the holidays the way society often portrays them. Thank you for the kind words about our visa extension and videos, that means a lot. Wishing you a holiday season that brings you exactly the kind of peace and joy you need. Happy Holidays!

@AnArtistsLifeYTКүн бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so glad you enjoyed the video. For house hunting, we looked at listings from all the agencies available in each area we were interested in and also expanded our search to include multiple sources, such as local immobiliers and online platforms like Seloger. Smaller, local agencies often had listings that were not online, so checking directly with them was very helpful. I hope this helps! 😊

Everyone's situation is different. My husband and I have nobody to buy Christmas presents for. Our only child stopped talking to us 3 yrs ago and we don't know why Lots of our family passed away, and the rest have decided years ago no gift exchange I loved giving gifts, so now I'm going to give a gift to the men who pick up our garbage with a gift card for a nice lunch, and same for the mailman. However my husband and I always spend Thanksgiving day alone. Family members do not cook well, and the food tastes terrible, so long ago we decided to make ourselves a gourmet dinner.

Completely agree with doing "your own thing" or creating your own customs for the holidays. This year I did tell people who asked what I wanted, that I didn't need or want anything...I am happy with what I have and really don't have a need anything else. I am an only child and have no family members left except one chaotic 1st cousin that I choose to stay away from and her 4 sons. I will only buy for my 92 year old Godfather and a cousin's 18 month old son. I can't say that holidays I have spent alone have been lonely but I would describe them more as allowing me solitude. I cooked my favorite things, ate when I wanted, talked to friends that I wanted to talk with who live out of the area and dressed as I pleased. I have particularly "soured" on Christmas here in the US because it just seems like so many people overindulge and overspend on their children. It has become an issue of excess to me and there is no excitement in seeing that. Happy to hear that you and your husband have felt the freedom to do things the way you have wanted and modified them when situations have changed for you over the years as your sons have grown. Happiest of holidays to you and your family...enjoy them in which ever way brings you joy and peace!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your story and perspective. I completely agree that creating your own customs and embracing what truly feels right for you is so important. It sounds like you have found a beautiful balance, focusing on the connections and moments that matter most to you while also honoring your own need for solitude. I also understand how the excess surrounding the holidays can feel overwhelming, especially when it shifts away from the simple joys and meaningful experiences that make this time special. It’s inspiring to hear how you’ve shaped the holidays to reflect your values and what brings you peace. Thank you for your kind wishes, and I hope your holiday season is filled with the joy, calm, and connection you deserve. Happiest of holidays to you as well!

I found myself relating to so much of what you said. My dad was jewish, but did practice and even turned away from religion. My mom was Lutheran and we celebrated Christmas, but with no religious connotation at all. Therefore, I am not a religious person and in fact feel that religion has been the cause of wars, death and people turning against each other in the name of their "god". I have 2 adult children and 1 brother who lives 6 hours away and I rarely see. I'm fortunate in that I only have a handful of people to buy gifts for and mainly my immediate family. I enjoy baking more than cooking and at christmas I make my mother's butter cookies which add a few pounds to my waistline. LOL After the holidays Cecelia, I am going to try your empanadas and bake them which is healthier. I do not like olives or raisins in cooked foods, so forgive me if i omit them. Happy Holidays to you and those wonderful men in your life.
