How We Celebrate the Last Day of Homeschool | Traditions to Make the End of the Year Memorable

Today I am sharing our annual traditions to make the end of the homeschool year memorable. Traditions don’t have to be big or over the top to be memorable. Most of ours are simple but have become things that we all look forward to year after year.

😂 These are great! My kiddos love burning their work at the end of the year too. I usually have them choose their least favorite curriculum and they can burn it lol.

We don't have a solid stop date, but slowly transition to spending more time on other things and fitting academic stuff in when we can. We have finished a few subjects, kids are doing year end testing this week, then we are going to be really light on the academics. We will celebrate with a treat after their testing! then try to do some local fun activities once a week before school lets out for the year here. I bought tickets for us to go downhill carting when the weather improves, we will go to the trampoline park, maybe a zoo trip and we are trying to do a weekly trip to our nearby national parks when my husband has weekdays off and weather permits.

This was our first year homeschooling so I’m still figuring things out as I go but when my son finished his curriculum books this year we took a week off and had a “fun week”. We went to the zoo, splash park, pool, trampoline park, and had a picnic at a park. It was a lot of fun. I might make that a tradition but we will see what happens next year 😊

The last week of school we do a paper chain countdown and on each paper chain is the dress up spirit for that day or an activity. I typically do pajama day, bring a stuffed animal to school, movie day, art project day, park at lunch time, mix mat h wacky outfit, etc. And the last paper chain on the last day is a water fight with grandparents!! Or if the weather doesn't cooperate we go out for ice cream with friends or grandparents.

We celebrate by going out to ice cream together on the last day! I make a little Certificate of Completion on Canva that says she completed the grade level! And then we will go through paperwork she wants to keep in her grade level “Memory Book”. She really likes to go back and see what she worked on each year. I would LOVE your tips for emotions and hormones! 😊 My daughter will be in 5th next year and it’s definitely starting!😮

My 12 year old daughter likes Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego ? We're going to be purchasing the chapter books for her this summer. It may be something she will enjoy.

This was our first year. I have one in 4 year old preschool and one in 3 year old preschool. I haven’t really thought about what to do for my kids, but this video helped get ideas flowing.
