Nicely done. I just became a Texan 2 years ago, so I get to welcome you to Texas! I’m pretty organized with paperwork, but it did take a lot of work, research. But every state has their quirks. Thanks for making the video. The RV/nomadic/domicile info is new to me and very interest. Will look into Escapees for when we retire and get to full time RV. Your videos are very pleasant!

There are some areas in Texas that do require emissions testing. If you live within a certain distance from Houston you have to have the emissions test. I think there may be a couple of other areas but I am not sure about that, I live in Magnolia which is just North of Houston.

Hey guys!! Great video with a lot of helpful information, that is sure to help everyone make this transition. When Sabrina and I made Florida our Domicile Sate we remember being overwhelmed with all of the steps we needed to take as well. After we were finished with the process though we agree with you it really was not that bad to do and we had worked ourselves up for nothing. **CORRECTION: at the 5:33 mark, you'll need a different license if the GVWR of your RV EXCEEDS (not below) 26,001lbs or a combination of vehicles with a GCWR of 26,001 lbs or more provided the GVWR of the vehicle(s) towed is in excess of 10,000 lbs. Could this apply to me if I live in a park model in Arizona for six months and travel in my RV for six months? Could my domicile be Texas?

Hi Dennis. Unfortunately, we aren't in a position to answer this question. I would encourage you to seek the advice of a lawyer. My thought is that if you are living half the year in Arizona, it may be difficult to claim residency in Texas, but that's just what my gut tells me.

license plate and vehicle inspection are good for 1 year. Our Driver's license is valid for 6 years. We were told that you can bypass the inspection and do your vehicle plate renewal online if you just tell the system that you are traveling.

Georgia charges a 7% sales tax on vehicles brought from other states and registered (welcome to Georgia tax) what is the fee in Texas?

We don't know all the rules in Texas, but since we had paid sales tax in CO where we bought the vehicle, they did not charge us any sales tax. We only had to pay a registration fee and I think that cost between $300-$400 for both our vehicles.

why not just choose south dakota.. much less in all forms of TEXAS, errr.. taxes..

South Dakota and Florida are both popular choices for RVers. For us, Texas just made more sense ( a place we are more likely to visit frequently than SD and I (Dan) was actually born in Texas so it just makes more sense for our story.

the reason is that the cost will vary for each person, depending on the value of the vehicles being registered. You can look up the current cost for DL here: www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/fees.htm

billy johnson yeah your probably right. At this point t I don't recall exactly, but I'd guess we paid between $350 - $450 to register our Navion and Jeep and get our licenses.

billy johnson I think a big part of it was that we could prove that we'd already paid sales tax. I think it might have been higher if not.
