Salute! Just a quick tip... Procion(like Dharma's) type of dyes hold their color & richness way better than Rit. Also, could save you some $ while turning out more potent colors.

What does the salt do in the process? Is that added into the dye bath, or before hand?

Salt and hot water activate the fibers of the clothing and make it easier for the dye to stick. This is normally good for dyeing any natural fibers such as cotton or cotton blended items.

Use dyers salt, not table salt. Table salt will mess up the dye.

You should really step up your Dying process cause you guy´s are using really cheap and fall off your clothes dye you need to use fiber reactive dyes really worth the money and you will love the results.
