I learned from a retiree with his home paid off is do not treat your life as a mathematical journey.

I’m torn between paying off my 2.8% mortgage or putting the money into the market. Have it all sitting in a money market fund right now while I ponder.

Both is a beautiful solution! Also, if you’re a sequential personal like me, consider hitting Coast FIRE first and then paying off your low interest mortgage

If you plan to stay in the house for many years, then invest anything above your emergency fund limit. If you want to make as much money as possible then invest the money. If you want to retire as early as possible then invest the money. If you plan to relocate and it will result in a high loan with a high interest rate, then pay off the loan. If you already are on track to have enough money by your chosen retirement date, then pay off the loan. If you jist want that peace of mind from having the house paid off sooner, then pay off the loan.

Terrence, i agree completely with ya. As for me in my household, we live fulltime on the road since January 2018(and counting) and we bought our rigs new to make memories while renting our house to a family members. We just sold our house and we are going to pay all our rigs in full by end of this month with the proceeds. We will continue to be on the road and we are rent free as i serve on public lands and wife works as well. We are ready to upgrade our rigs in the near future and pay cash as it is our "home on wheels". Some people spend more on a newer reliable rig compare to a house when your house is on wheels to build lasting memories on the road than accumulating too much stuff. "Take the less traveled path."

I feel this. We have two 10-yr old vehicles with many, many years left. It confounds me seeing $50-100K cars parked at work. I distill this all down to savers vs spenders. Although, I did see someone higher up in the company (big earner) driving a 2009 Toyota Highlander--one of us!
