I like that he admitted that paying off his mortgage was not a rational decision, but an emotional one.

I too live in Canada in Thunder Bay Ontario. I retired at 65 with $100,000.00 left on my mortgage. I decided I didn’t want this stone hanging around my neck. I live alone so I used my 3 pensions to pay it off in 3 years. It worked out that I paid $33,000.00 per year. I lived on much less. I became frugal in every single item in the cost list. Frugal with water, electricity, heat, cellphone plans, food, vehicle usage. I no longer ate out except once per year for my birthday. I canceled everything except internet. Used KZbin, Tubi and other free sources for entertainment. So happy it’s all done. I can be done but you must be determined.

Trump supporters seem to be the dumbest at finances. Always get the longest term mortgage for the cheapest payments. Save your money for investing and pay little as possible to mortgage principal because your peeing your money away

We became mortgage free in Ontario Canada in 2016. Absolutely one of the best days of my life. Don't forget to call your bank and get your home released from the lien. It does not happen automatically. The bank will charge you for this. It cost us $ 175. 00 . Nobody has their hooks in my home and never will.

Finally someone with a larger mortgage. Everyone I see paying off their mortgage in the finance space all bought houses pre-covid for less than $400k. Paying off $100-200k is very different from paying off $400-700k mortgages. So im happy to finally see someone relatable

@@Veronica-tk9rlyeahhh that's true. We need inspiration from people who paid off $400k+ mortgages

That 750K you just paid could have been making you 10 to 15% a year. Mortgage interest in USA averages between 4 to 8% a year. You make much more investing that money and taking the interest tax write off. You should have consulted with a good financial advisor. Sad for your loss

We all have different goals. This was an important one for Andrew. What goals do you have?
