I think egoism is more a function of his personal worldview. Remember, being arrogant has only recently been narrowed down to the idea that a person is full of themselves and brag. I think ego in this film is more along the classical lines. Strange is demanding. He thinks he deserves knowledge. Almost everything he says early on is a question. He acts always in the interest of maintaining his control in a room. Due to that, Astral Projection becomes a really great visual metaphor for Strange. He has to stop seeing himself as the center of the universe, not in the sense that he thinks he's awesome but in the sense that he thinks he's entitled to anything more than mere existence.

I hope Dr. Strange is utilized in Infinity War like he's utilized in the Infinity Gauntlet comic story. Serving as a doorway for the other characters to the cosmic elements of the Marvel universe.

When he gets the magic stuff he's arrogant and wants his hands heal until the ancient one's death.

As someone who knows nothing about Doctor strange I loved this movie a lot. It was incredibly imaginative and a complete spectacle to watch. I thought the humor was better handled here than it was in ant-man as well. I'm so psyched to see more Doctor strange. My problems would be that there was a bit too many action scenes, and cumberbatch seriously needs to learn drivers etiquette.

This film was good and a great look at Stephen Strange. The way its rules are set up are fun and interesting and the visuals and magical flare give the film its own identity. On the down side though, the film moves too fast. It needed more time to live with the ideas and themes that it was setting up, and, like Eric said, it hurts Strange's development a bit because his accident and subsequent introduction to magic comes fast to the point where the impact was a little bit lost on me because the film didn't leave a strong foundation for me to cling to. What's there works delightfully, but it could have been much improved with more time and development. Kaecelius, The Ancient One, and Mordo all had fascinating motivations that worked well with each other, but I think critical moments require extrapolation instead of the film building a story around those ideas. Overall, this film was as fun and exciting as I was hoping it would be and the story was a good vehicle to introduce us to this world, but the film has noticeable cracks along the way. As a moderate Strange fan, I was thoroughly engaged. Interested in seeing this at least one more time before the spoilercast.

"This movie moves too fast." So is it basically Batman Begins put on fastforward?
@Ren_Davis0531
@Ren_Davis0531 8 жыл бұрын
alexh4319 You could say that. It needs more time for the story to simmer. As it stands it's very entertaining as the world building and spell craft are fun, and the performances maintain the fidelity of the universe so that you are engaged with all of it, not to mention the creative visuals, but the sparse and quick story is where the film leaves more to be desired. The film clocks in around an hour and 55 minutes, and I think it needed to be longer or at least use its time more wisely (which is ironic considering the film is about time). I can see wanting to get to the magic as fast as possible since that's what people came to see, but for the story to live up to its best potential it needed time for us to live with the characters and explore their motivations and themes. Definitely worth seeing in the theater, but I would recommend modifying your expectations slightly to get the best enjoyment. Personally, the film was as fun and exciting as I thought it was going to be and the story was good, but could have been better or even great.

Completely agreed. The movie should have spent more time building the all-new world of magic, explaining its rules. But that's not the worst of it. There's such a hyper-focus on quips and just "getting to the action" that the characters are swept away in the plot's current. There are some great character *moments* but the foundation for knowing them isn't there which makes them much less effective. This movie had enormous potential but instead chose to spend it on (great) elaborate action scenes which are hollow without a compelling story to shape them. It really should have been a lot better than a super fun, trippy but forgettable time at the movies. The equivalent of a sugar-hit or a drug trip: awesome while it lasts, but it leaves you with nothing at the close.

Lol cap with all due respect I think you interrupted Eric a bit too much here. Regardless glad you guys enjoyed the movie overall. Always love seeing Strange popping up in everyone's books (especially Spider-Man) so I can't wait to see this tonight

the thing you are missing is the god complex angle associated with doctor specifically with surgeons thus the arogrances. dc does the magic stuff better than marvel as doctor strange is very under utilized within his own universe. when he became the ancient one a great opportunity in terms of him finding others who have magic aptitude in the world at large to become the next sorceror supreme.

I'm feeling it but not REALLY feeling it, I like the effects, I thought the climax was pretty clever, Benedict Cumberbatch is great as Dr. Strange, and the film does a good of setting up magic in the MCU. I do agree that the film moves a little too fast for its own good especially in the beginning and some character stuff could have been put more to the forefront especially when the film starts talking about moral ambiguity. Overall, I'd say the film was enjoyable and worth seeing especially if you're a Strange fan and the film did accomplish two things for me being that it made me interested in the character and his world and I wanted to see more of it and I'd say those are some of the most important goals that any comic book movie can strive towards. Sadly those two accomplishments didn't come from the last two offerings of DC this year for me.

I really disliked the score. I didn't even notice the main theme (and in comparison, I love the themes from Ant-Man, Avengers, Guardians....) and it mostly sounded like really generic action movie score. The movie was good but I thought the villain was one of the less interesting, even if the final battle was very unique. Honestly, I think this is a character they could have skipped the origin on: they could have opened this movie where he was the sorcerer supreme for several years already and reveal to us through him everything that's been going on in the back of this universe.

Billy THE KID Lawrence I have listened to the main theme again and it's grown on me. Still, while watching it, it seemed bland, and if I'm being honest I think Kubo did that style of music better a few months.

Was there any news about extensive deleted scenes? I can't imagine why this would need a director's cut unless the director had to lose things he liked.

Aesthetist In Exile I just felt like everything went by to fast where we didn't see enough of him training. It just felt like he mastered all the stuff quickly because he is Doctor Strange and he has too. He basically mastered it all out of lucky. And the ending with the time loop felt to Doctor Who moment for me lol. I kept waiting for the Doctor's theme to come up.
@aesthetistinexile500
@aesthetistinexile500 8 жыл бұрын
Bruce Wayne Agreed. It's entirely too fast in places. Would maybe have helped if we established that his accident happened around Iron Man 3 or something, and he's been training for years but as it stands it's more like a few weeks. I love the time loop. That's straight out of the comics. Though I wish the scale was bigger. When Strange becomes Sourcer Supreme in the comics, he actually puts the whole universe in a time loop of creation and destruction. Wish the movie had that kind of Ditko scale.
