I volunteered for a couple of weeks with Team Rubicon to do disaster recovery after Hurricane Michael in Marianna, FL. That area got hit really hard. It was heartbreaking, yet one of the most emotionally rewarding experiences in my life. I'll never forget it. -Dean

We e stayed at COE at Perry Lake and Clinton Lake in Kansas. The COE provides the levy systems in our area on the Kansas and Missouri rivers. I worked closely with them when I was employed on the BNSF railway. Great folks!

Milford Lake, Kansas near Junction City Ks, The Big Red One division is stationed here. We had a 100 year flood last year. We were 18 feet over conservation level. We were holding back water to help protect the Mississippi delta area. It wiped out most of the COA campgrounds. Yes, It is/was our favorite spot to camp. It will be years for us to recover. The devastation is/was unbelievable. It makes me so sad. Thank you for volunteering.

That is really sad to hear! Flooding like that makes it even harder to come back from. Have they started the recovery process of the park? If so, are they taking volunteers to help the process along?

I have a couple contacts I will visit with to see if they have updated info for me. We have driven as close to the area as we can get to check out the damage but obviously they have barriers up.

We have been fulltime for about 2yrs now, at a workamper gig currently in AZ. We have found the Military's campgrounds to be our most favorite. One of our most favorite is a hidden gem in north Florida Camp Blanding. Go Army Beat Navy!

We've stayed at maybe 6 or 7 COE parks over the years. We stopped at a couple last summer on the way home. I can't say one is my favorite so far. But we have 3 or 4 more on our RVTW map for this summer. The campgrounds are the best federal campgrounds, no contest. They have huge sites that will take just about any RV. All the ones we've used are backin. They have a lot of room between sites too. I have never seen a hiking trail at one but we haven't been to that many. They are number one about water sports. If they have utilities most of the time it is water and electric. We haven't run into a FHU. When making reservations be careful because they will have multiple sites around one lake. And the utilities at each cg may vary. So get a reservation with the utilities you want and don't get a rude surprise when you arrive. I don't recall ever seeing a dump site either. One big thing you should have mentioned, COE locations are mainly east of the Mississippi or maybe right across the River. OK and lastly a historical bone to pick as a Navy guy. So far as I know every landing by the Army or Marines was preceded by Navy Divers: UDT. They cleared underwater mines and obstacles and mapped the beach. The infantry then hit the beach, I don't recall one account of COE men running around the beach clearing mines and tank traps on Omaha beach. After the landing I can see it.

Kendall COE Campground, at Wolf Creek Dam on the southern end of Lake Cumberland in KY. Great host, great facility, $24 a night, clean restrooms/showers, laundry and water/elec on all sights.

The Washington monument was only finished by the Corps of Engineers. It was started by private construction from 1848-1854. The COE came in and finished it from 1876-1884.

We've stayed at the COE campground on Lake Lanier at Van Pugh South. It was fantastic. Almost every site was a waterfront site, with lots of shade. The lake was beautiful and supposedly gator free. Highly recommended.

On our trip down to New Orleans we discovered a gem of COE park called Jennings Ferry Campground in Alabama...enjoyed a waterfront site right on the river with electric/water. We were just passing through, but decided on an extra day to just relax and enjoy the scenery.

North Bend Park, Kerr Dam, Lake Gaston, Virginia. Beautiful park. It’s also known as Bugg’s Island reservoir. The ACO operates the hydroelectric dam at the park. I’ve been camping there for over50 years and it only gets better.

West Point used to take their best and brightest cadets and put them in the engineer path.... That is until the Field Artillery began to shot indirect fires. The computations for accurate timely fires became so complex that they then began to assign the best and brightest to the FA path.

I’m surprised more fellow military folks don’t know about these sites. I tell all of my Soldiers who camp about them. The Sergeant Major always sharing that knowledge!😉

As a USACE employee, I really appreciate the shout out. Here in Northern Mississippi COE parks are a plenty. Sardis being the biggest, unfortunately recently had a bad storm/tornadoes go through the park and park is currently closed. I like COE parks cause the bathrooms are pretty clean. Funny you had HOLT show up, we camped there, beautiful campground. Only down side is the Copperhead snakes are terrible, or at least they were a couple years ago.

My wife and I have stayed here Bailey's Point campground largest of the Army Corps of Engineers' campgrounds on Barren River Lake. This is located about 40 minutes ESE of Bowling Green, KY. It's a man made lake and most camp sites are lake front. We have always found the facilities neat and well kept. NOTE!! this is in a dry county so bring your own beer, wine, etc.

Kendall Recreation Area Jamestown, KY is a great COE campground. Its our favorite. 30 & 50 amp at some campsites with water. No sewer but they have dump stations. Their bath houses are beautiful and kept very clean.

Our favorite COE park in Texas is Airport Park and Speegleville Campground, both are on Lake Waco and just west of town. Both are fabulous, take reservations on recreation.gov and have hookups. Airport has a few FHU sites and Speegleville Campground has water/electric hookups. Great parks and like others all on big lakes. During the week they're pretty empty but pretty full on weekends. Both have a few Walk-In sites too. Our next RV trip will be to the Hords Creek COE Campground in Coleman, TX. It too looks great.

Thomson causeway recreation area is my favorite local coe campground. Situated right on the widest part of the Mississippi River in Thomson Illinois. Very clean and modern. Just be aware they will close if there is flooding, but that's how close to the river it is.

When you come to south Oklahoma check out Lake Texoma. Multiple coe campgrounds. Remember you can stay 14 days, move to another on the same lake for another 14 days. Most cost $12-$13 with the 50% off & some have full hookup. (Not many) If you are ever in north Texas, southern OK we'll be glad to steer you in the right direction. We have one lake near us that doesn't require a reservation. (Not coe) So wish we could have made Florida. See you two up the road. Gator & Terri

Yes we have and we love it. Our favorite is on the other side of the dam from our home near Belton Lake, Belton TX. Good size lake (hard surface boat ramp inside park) with a well designed and laid out park with appx 60 +/- sights. close to all shopping amenities. Less than 10 minutes off of Interstate 35.

I am fortunate to live next to a COE lake here in Illinois. What I mean by next to is my back yard backs up to COE property. We have great COE campgrounds here. If you get a chance check out the campgrounds around Lake Shelbyville here in Central Illinois. I am retired Air Force and highly recommend the access pass. By the way... your videos are awesome!

We love COE campgrounds and so far have stayed at them exclusively. You can't beat the price with the access pass! Our favorite so far is Sardis Lake near Clayton, Oklahoma. Beautiful lake surrounded by wooded rolling hills. Already have reservations for the 1st week in April and can't wait. Another very good one is Virgil Point at Hugo Lake, level concrete sites just feet from the water's edge. Great video as always and good job on the Year to Volunteer.

We stay every year at the Army Corp Engineers in Carlyle, Illinois at Boulder Campground $9 a night. Right on the lake just BEAUTIFUL very peaceful. Open till October 30th some full hookups, several elec & water then of course a few with nothing which is like $12 a night so you would pay $6 a night!!! Thanks for sharing the info. They would be anywhere from 5-30 minutes apart no matter how often we changed the batteries or corrected the time. I drove me crazy!! Second one of them fell while opening the slide and we crushed it. Chose not to replace it because of the time thing.

In KY, I'm at Fort Knox, 90% of our camping is at COE parks. Our favorite is Eureka at Lake Barkley, one of the lakes forming Land Between the Lakes (also beautiful). It can be difficult to get into because there is only 26 sites and a few are tent only. Across the lake is Canal, a much larger COE campground.

Another great video. Our favorite COE Park is easy. Seven Points outside Nashville. (The one in TN not MI) Why? Because so far we have only stayed at one! It was a great experience though so you know there will be more in the future.

we've stayed there and liked it. The trees that were in our site leaked a sap like substance all over the RV and car! It was a mess to clean!!!!
