Chad, love you guys but I’ll give you a DEF tip, or two. The rubber flap door is more common in the colder states because DEF will freeze and the little rubber flap door helps keep the heat in when the temp drops. 2nd, the OPW DEF nozzle has a “hold open” feature that most folks, even professional drivers don’t know is there. It on the very back of the nozzle at the hose end where a little lever holds the handle in the on position. 3rd, did you know that Pilot Flying J (Now know as the PILOT Co) makes its own DEF and has a whole fleet of DEF semi’s and drivers as well as wholesale customers that is branded under the Saratoga name? How do I know?? I am a fuel driver for Pilot and deliver to multiple stores in a tri-state area. Great company to work for....BTW, some Pilot stores have propane & Dump Stations for RV’s...

I'm a trucker and I'll get behind the RV in the fuel line all the time they are quicker. Just hate when they go inside for a long time and come outside with 20 bags of stuff. The only thing about campers and rv's that drive me nuts. That's parking in the truck stop or rest areas and fully setting up there slide outs takes 3 spots.

I'm a professional driver, and personally. I'd rather see an r.v. than most trucks fuelling. Just be respectful.. fuel and go.. or pull forward. So the next guy can fuel. Understand your out there for fun.. truckers have a job to do. So just don't be like most OTR driver's.. do what you gotta do.. and get moving.. if you wanna shop, or need more time.. pull out, and find a parking spot. Again, be respectful.

Def covers are because it can freeze up in winter, and thus it helps Keep it warm, and some colder places you will see an insulation blanket on it. 2. join the rewards card, and you get from 1 to 4 cents on every gallion rewards(at Loves) 50 gals gets free shower, up to 5 days, to spend inside, depending on how many gallons you bought last month, which dont expire for 1 year. 3. Refer is for the refrigerated units, which doesnt pay highway taxes on those gallios, i have only ever seen 2 separate pumps, which put red dye in the gas, hugh fine if you try to cheat. 4. when you pull up, the truck fueling expects that you will be back out in 15 minutes, which is how long it usually takes to fuel, be sure to pull all the way up to the line in front, so he can pull up to fuel hiss refer if needed.. I am an OTR truck driver/ Trainer, this is what i teach my new student drivers.

Great Tip and Video. I followed your instructions, gave them your name and received the card a week ago. I also set up a separate checking account just for fuel and travel needs as a safety net against fraud if my card "goes missing". It feels weird saying that I can't wait to buy fuel. The people at TSD were very kind on the phone and made the process extremely easy. My wife and I usually use the truck lanes and in our experience, I have never met anyone who thought we shouldn't be there. In fact, we blew a radiator on our 250 in NY state and I had to replace it in the truck lot. Every trucker who passed offered to help me wrench on the thing. I also have noticed that there are lots of Veterans who drive and, also in my experience, Veterans look out for each other and for everyone else. My Brothers and Sisters also usually have some great stories. Thanks for putting yourselves out there for the rest of us and for saving us money on fuel. Fair Winds and Following Seas to you both.

Great video. Another option we use is an additional gravity fed, in bed 91 gallon tank. We can travel for days without refilling, take advantage of good fuel prices when available, and travel completely through states with higher taxes/prices. We also are more likely to fill up while we are unhooked instead of at higher priced interstate stations.

I realize this is an old video... “Reefer” stands for refrigeration unit on the front of a trailer on a semi. They have a separate tank under the belly of the trailer. If you click both, it will let you get your diesel, then get your def. once done you can pull forward and fill the tanks on the RV for your generator. You don’t have to reset the pump again to fill them. Hope this helps y’all. Love the videos, especially Chad’s how to videos on maintenance. 👍🏻

OTR trucker here. Thanks Chad and Tara for putting that info out there. Most of us dont mind seeing RVs in the fuel island. Just know there are three spots in most lanes waiting, fueling, and going inside(which is pulled forward in front of the fuel pumps) . We understand your too big for the auto side so go ahead. You need just about as much room as we do. But, please don't hold any of the positions up. Heck I drive a refrigerated or reefer trailer by the time I fill the truck tanks, DEF and pull forward to fuel the reefer its a good 20minutes. Also, Truckers live by federal law hours of Service. And one clock we follow, once it starts it does not stop, like a timer. The more time you spend in the island in any of the three spots is time off our clocks we can't get back. So please be courteous. Even in the third position(going inside) if your taking over 20 minutes your taking too long. You need to move your vehicle so the lane can flow.

We have fuel stations that sell offroad diesel that is dyed red and no road tax. If you get caught using it in your vehicle to drive it is a big fine. Just found your channel, looks good. SAFETY TIP When at the truck islands and walking to go in to the truck stop, be sure to stay at least 10ft in front of the big rigs. There is a big blind spot directly in front of most big rigs and just plain can't see anyone walking in front of them . Watch for trucks pulling out of the fuel lanes and/or off the pull up line. Watch for the driver in the truck and what they may be ready to do. Try to make eye contact to be sure they see you. Another tip, if you may need to walk in back of a rig , don't get too close either. When air brakes release they don't make much noise and not give much warning of movement. Most times on the back side of a big rig backing up there is little to no noise or warning of movement. Anyone with kids PLEASE escort them inside. I have seen several instances (not a regular thing) of young kids running under fueling trucks. They don't realize the dangers and chances of a driver seeing a kid dart under their rig would be slim. Thanks for your time to read this, 25+ years trucking, Cuzzineddie

39 years as a trucker. A few tips! After you have pumped and pulled forward then paid for your fuel, and done your business in the bathroom go back and park! Those truckers and others that screw around inside are the people we hate! Remember truckers must work AGAINST the clock so get in and get out. Go park in the lot and then go in and get a shower if you pumped enough fuel, eat and shop. You bought fuel so you paid to park! Just don't hold a working man or woman up taking your time in the store! You can be shown you are number 1! Next time at Walmart, go buy several hand towels. Brown or dark colored. Put 1 in each door so when you get back in the cab after walking on all that slippery fuel and oil, pull it out and put it on the floorboard and wipe your feet off! Then before closing the door hang it out the door and shake it off and put it back in the doorpocket. You just left the oil, fuel, dirt, water and snow out of the truck and off your feet! Note: DEF is very caustic! Keep it off the floor! That's how I kept my truck spotless by not dragging crap into the cab! Wash them with your work clothes. I did this even when at a shipper or rest area or wherever. I hate sweeping or vacuuming when it's easier to keep it clean by stopping the dirt at the door! If you have running boards that you actually can stand on they sell pads made out of artificial grass that mounts to them to get the heavy dirt off your shoes. They come with huge tie wraps to mount them with. I even use the carpet on my pickup trucks side rails! Keep those fuel receipts! When you do your taxes give them to your accountant because diesel is pre taxed for commercial users! This is a great refund waiting to happen! But be nice to your CPA and stack them with a clip! They hate pulling receipts out of bags and boxes, Read your next receipt and be sitting down when you look at the tax column! My dad drove a Mercedes and always got a great refund off diesel taxes! Blue Sky's and Safe Journeys!

Reefer fuel are for commercial trailers that have a reefer to refrigerate their load. It does NOT get road taxed. Which makes it cheaper.
@tonyduran47645 жыл бұрын
So is there any repercussions to using the "reefer" fuel if you are not driving a reefer? For instance red diesel for AG is supposed to be illegal to use in your personal vehicle because you do not pay taxes on it. wouldn't the reefer fuel be the same thing?
@marksill80205 жыл бұрын
@@tonyduran4764 Yes, at some stations, reefer fuel is coolered red. This is to aid the inspectors at commercial truck inspection sites to know if drivers are trying to cheat the system by putting non taxed fuel into their fuel tanks. However, the red coloring is just a dye some companies put into their off road diesel fuel to aid in determining the difference. The bigger truck stop stations such as the big five ( Loves, Pilot, Flying J, TA & Petro) don't put any dyes at most of their stations. It's just green like the regular diesel fuel. What it boils down to is, let your conscience be your guide.

Not sure on the price breaks. I had heard about them but consistently found way cheaper diesel at the smaller no name shops than the flying J or pilot or TA. Just got back from traveling between Chicago and Cheyenne WY via I80. Routinely there was a 30-40 cent different per gallon on diesel. While the large truck stops charge way more but may have some discounts of 10-20 cents per gallon, they were still way above the Kum-n-Go and other smaller ones. Just keep an eye out for the smaller ones as you travel and your tank is relatively full. You should also see a pattern. My set up was about 50 feet long in total. While not the largest, I had no issues maneuvering in those stations. Many of them had several trucks also. And I could use my credit card at the pump, with no issues of having to go into the store. While I’m sure there are good discounts, I had better luck at the small places.

The reason for the def fluid hose being hidden behind this floppy door is for the fact that def fluid will freeze,therefore the inside of the pump is heated just like your def tank is heated and it is very important that you make sure the hose is properly fitted and the floppy door is properly sealed. 🇨🇦😎

Always great tips from Chad and Tara. A recent trip my wife and I had while traveling the FL panhandle at a Loves fuel stop. One: the down side of a truck stop fueling station is the diesel fuel nozzles are bigger (for high volume) and on my 2018 diesel pickup (and a previously owned 2011 diesel P/U) these nozzles barely fit the fuel fill. So be careful while filling because it will surprise you, you can usually hear the fuel coming up your tank fill hose and release the fuel nozzle handle in time and hopefully not get a "fuel shower". 2: the pump would not take my debit card, so i went inside to the fuel pay register, then was asked how much, said 50, then was asked 50 dollars or 50 gallons. 50 dollars i replied! So be aware out there and safe travels.

I did not know about the TSD card. I'll definitely be applying for a card. It's a hassle to go in twice, to authorize, then finalize, the transaction. I do have a couple tips. I would not keep the gloves in the vehicle. I created a little shelf behind my fuel door and keep the gloves there. Diesel fuel is something I don't wanna be smelling. Lol. If you have your fuel door on the passenger side like me, you will have to use the satellite pump. This one only activates if you remove the pump handle from its cradle on the left side and activate it first. I just set it on the ground and then go fuel from the satellite pump. Be sure to hang them both back up once you are done.

I carry 2 of the blue DEF containers in the back of our truck that I fill at the trucking lane. It's 1/2 the price as buying it at stores. I bought 2 and just refill them. About $6 savings.

as a truck driver and having used EFS which is what it looks like your using... pretty much EVERYWHERE takes EFS. generally how it works is the company that owns the account for your card goes and negotiates discounts with certain stores. it can be as many as every store in the US or as few as 1 store depending the size of the company. definitely get a rewards card if you can. you build points for free stuff like food and coffee. The reefer is a refrigerated trailer which runs on diesel as well.

It is no doubt different elsewhere but we just completed a 3000 mile trip to the Grand Canyon, Phoenix area and then Moab Utah. Fueling several times along the way. What we found is the prices advertised along the main road ways at Loves, Flying J and the rest where considerably higher than stopping at a regular fuel station. Granted the Rv size makes a huge difference so certainly a much needed point to make. We are just over 50' in total length so we do have options. All this being said I did have one fuel stop that I really should have taken a google earth look at. I got out but not without considerable effort and help from other folks fueling. Good info though so thanks for the video.

I got my card this past Friday and used it Saturday to fill up. Actually wasn't empty yet, only took 19.350 gal to top off and I saved $8.72 or .45 cents a gallon. Wow!!!! Thank you so much for the info and I also used you as a reference. Hope y'all had a wonderful thanksgiving and will have a wonderful Christmas.

The TSD Fuelman card is AWESOME! I just did a cross-country trip in my new Ford F450, I saved on average $20 per fuel up, mostly at TA truckstops, but still able to get a (lesser) discount at Love's. Best advice ever!!!

Great video! Get a piece of cardboard so when you get out to pump you can stand on it. It keeps your shoes and floorboards from smelling of fuel. Just put it in the bed near the front with something to weight it down.

The issue I have with this card is; since they don’t do a credit check they ask for your SS#. I have a real issue with that!!!

Ok guys, we just order our first and new to us F350 Dually and we will be purchasing a Momentum Toy Hauler. We just applied for the TSD Logistics card and yes, you got the referral. This is a bit intimidating and honestly I am not sure we would have done this without watching your channel. We are some what well traveled already but that has all been on the bikes. We are really looking forward to trying the RV life style. Thanks for all the good info., maybe our paths will cross one of these days.

Chad, reefer means the refrigeration unit on cold box and freezer trucks. The reason it is separate is because it is considered non-highway fuel. This is significant because professional drivers/trucking companies don't pay road tax on this fuel. It can cost .40-.60 per gallon less. Now you know...BOOM! lol
