I sent in my application like literally a week and a half after it was announced it was open lolol. I already had everything ready since I worked on it between August 2019 to March 2020. The only thing I had to wait on was the medical form from my doctor, and because of the pandemic I reissued my diplomas so I wouldn't send my own out (plus I couldn't get copies and have them notarized due to the pandemic so I just needed to repurchase my diplomas) and I got them in May. The pandemic worked into my favor because my field is vastly understudied but because of the pandemic it gave it importance, but I literally found a school in japan with an advisor in the same field it was literally what I studied as an undergrad but as a graduate program, and nowhere else did I find this. I found similar, but this was literally exact to the finest degree. It was mind blowing. It felt like such a sign! The only thing I'm nervous about is that I was pretty humble with rating my language knowledge. I know English and Polish fluently, but with Polish I wouldn't say I'm at the highest level even though it's my first language. English is my dominant language. Also with Japanese I'm at the N3 level, but i was also pretty humble with that because I tend to struggle in reading writing and speaking (which I'm working on on the side), but listening for me, for anything really -- I have a really good ear. Compared to my sister who was born in Poland, I know and speak more Polish than her and better. When I had language classes (I've also taken Korean and Mandarin) I've always been told I have a really good ear. So I didn't want to overestimate myself so I was really humble with the rating.

However, when I finally got my ticket, which took like forever, it was way over 600,000¥ 😱. Could you do a video for us mere mortals on how we can improve fluency? I ask because right now, still so early in my journey, I see so many people on various forums - from italki to wanikani to stackexchange - bemoaning that even after years they struggle to truly be fluent! One extreme case was someone who has been living in Japan for 20 years and said they still struggle to hold a normal conversation! Another wrote about how he flunked a job interview on the phone despite having JLPT1! That's so discouraging for a beginner like me. Yet here you are sounding like - at least for a gaijin like me - like you are one step away from having been born and gone to school there! I do have a conversation partner on italki - but it's all so very very yukkuri. I also do not rule out that some people simply have a talent - and I think you have it. For others it's a much harder slog.

I read somewhere you MEXT picks a university for you, and you don't really have a choice, is it true? I want to go to Kyoto University, but not sure if MEXT would allow me!

Hello, I am wondering how long does it take for them to reply that you've got an interview/exam for the MEXT scholarship?

With this year being as weird as it is it's better to ask your embassy. Only they will know!

are you allowed to bring a pet (medium dog) or a emotional support animal?
@kemushichan3 жыл бұрын
For grad school level and up yes, but then you have to find your own apartment and do the paperwork (can take about half a year) on your own. Also, you can't fly them on the flight MEXT offers you so you'd have to go back and pick them up later (what I did)

I have this one question Is GRE required for masters in economics while applying through mext scholarship?
@kemushichan4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the school, but I haven't met anyone who needed it. MEXT for masters level is essentially just money you apply for to use at the school of your choice. All the recs and stips you need will be what your target school wants.

I just found out about MEXT. And I just found out that there is an age restriction. I'm 38....so that's a no go. Any suggestions?

What does mean entrance examination?
@kemushichan4 жыл бұрын
MEXT gets you into the school but if you want the full University, Masters or PhD. Degree you have to take the real entrance exam at your school and extend the scholarship as a full student.

Is their an age limit? For this program?
@kemushichan4 жыл бұрын
It depends on which level you pick (undergraduate/specialized training college are for generally undergraduate aged, and Research Student is for graduate/post-graduate work). I joined the Research Student level(graduate program) at age 27.

When you are speaking in English, I think adding Japanese subtitles will increase the number of subscribers to your channel.

such an inspiration! thank you! i've found your channel yesterday, and i've been watching a lot of very informative vids. say, may i ask if you know about this? my undergrad degree in our country is pharmacy. but i'd be glad to study other fields, if there is any scholarship appropriate for me. cuz i don't think medical disciplines are easy esp when everything is in Japanese. but i've been self-studying the language for some time now. thank you.

@@yuugaouzuki18 I don't know the word because it's not my field, but I know a lot of MEXT research students had a lot of success getting into medical related programs at Tokyo U. Topics like social health/diseases (for example, coronavirus this year, health care in general, etc.). If you want to stand out you'll need to boost your Japanese though. Good luck!

Do you think I can do my L.L.M in Japan with the MEXT scholarship? It's only a one year program.
@kemushichan4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure personally but you can check easily by searching for LLM programs and seeing of they are at a MEXT school. That being said, I would make sure that getting an LLM from Japan is still desirable for future employers. I know your school /prestige can be very important in the law world. Best of luck to you!
