Kim Leone you are wrong! First of all, who’s fault is it? They, at the age of 18, 23, whatever, didn’t wake up one morning and say, “you know what, I’m not going to work anymore.” No, if your kids are that way, YOU raised them to be that way! My kids know that they will not be in my house until they are 30, and that if they want something in life they have to work to get it. I absolutely hate when people generalize the youth of today into a category of a useless, worthless, generation. We are teaching our kids that if they want to succeed in life, they must go to college, which is not true. We have to take responsibility for raising our children, and not just let them do whatever.

Kim Leone but don’t you agree that all these people rioting, looting, and burning learned that lack of respect from home? Not that I am a perfect parent, far from it, but not one of my kids would even think about disrespecting our great nation. @infinityrose92 I like the Chatty Cathy's out there! I have a cell phone but I just use it for my work or when I'm traveling mostly. At home I still have my land line which I like talking on much better. I think cell phones are really too much of a thing for some people. I see them texting and driving (which is against the law), and, like the other guy said, all at a restaurant and each looking at their cell phones. I think it is very rude when you are talking to someone and they have to look at their phone. Lords knows if it rings they at least have to look and see who is calling. I think it's rude, unless of course your family member is in hospital and you are waiting on a call about how they are, etc. I was at a doctor's clinic one day and this mother with a little toddler behind her, and she was on the phone walking fast and the poor little guy could have been kidnapped or ran over, she never looked back or took him by the hand, just kept walking and talking. When she finally got across the lot to her car and then saw him, she did come back for him thankfully, but still........... Really sad how some people can not be without the phone for even a few minutes. To each their own though. Things change over the years and so it goes!! Progress I reckon!

I would have LOVED to see James sitting on the porch with Jerry Clower. Two southern neighbors just talking about things. Would have been the best ever skit!!

How we HAD to answer the phone when I was a kid, because mom or dad sure weren't going to. And with nine kids in the house the argument about who was going to answer it could take a while. Hello Lewis residence, may I ask who's calling? Then we'd get the I ain't here look from one or both. None of us were allowed on the phone for longer than five minutes. If you were one of them would walk by and hang it up. So you'd better watch the clock. No calls during supper. No calls after eight o' clock. No calls on Sunday at all. The only phone was in the kitchen on a wall. And I remember how excited mom was when dad got her a push button model.

Truth! People in all societies report feeling the loneliest and most disconnected ever in history.

infinityrose92 very true, however, people are more isolated and disconnected from family and community than ever before. And yes, paradoxically even with the internet. 90%+ of human social interaction (fulfillment/connection) is non verbal. And semi reliable sociological and psychological surveys are not exactly that new. Psychology Today took the increase in reporting and increase in psychotherapy and HUGE increase into psychotropic medications into consideration when analyzing the data, or it would be totally invalid

I couldn't agree more. I don't own a cell-phone. Drives my Momma bonkers. She said, "How am I supposed to get ahold of you?" I told her, "Pretend it's the '80s Momma, and call me at home!!!"
