For years I have been using the "After Christmas Bargain Wrapping Paper" for all holidays including birthdays. (I only do this with my immediate family. 😊) The kids always got a kick out of it. So as a sweet gesture I wrapped my daughter's baby shower gifts for her two children in the Christmas wrapping paper. (I'm sure everyone at the party did not quite understand why there was Christmas wrapping paper on my gifts to her 😂) My daughter loved it. She said it just made her feel like home. In turn, she now uses Christmas wrapping paper for her own immediate family. 😊🌲 This has been a huge money saver for years. 🤑

For a very long while now I have only used non-holiday specific wrapping paper, for all gift wrapping for all occasions. For example: traditional plaids, stripes, prints, or florals. I try to keep the colors classic and the designs traditional, and they coordinate well when used together. I keep them in an umbrella stand in a corner of my office, with the spools of ribbon slid on a wooden dowel, also kept in the container. I only keep 4-6 rolls at a time, and one is always brown paper, and one in a light floral or print suitable for weddings and showers. I keep only cream, red, dark green, and navy curling ribbon, and a large spool of jute. I keep old greeting cards (just the fronts) to use to decorate packages, gift tags, as postcards, note cards, or even as recipe cards.

I work at my kids school and also coach fall and spring so summer is all about getting the things done we don't get too during the school year. I have my veggie garden going, deep cleaning projects, decluttering, and even a family trip to Gatlinburg where I spent today batch cooking all our meals we'll take with us and reheat at the air bnb! I also do something similar with my clothes except I do it January 1st where I turn all my hangers around and then come next January anything not hanging the correct way gets donated it! ❤ To you, Paul, Dixie and Loris!

Hello Emmy, Paul & Dixie, I have 1 tip for a crockpot day of cooking. Especially in the summer. I put my crockpot on the front porch on a small table. There is an outlet out there & is so handy. Where I live there aren't a lot of neighbors, I live in the country. That way the house doesn't get full of odors from the cooking that las for days. Thanks for another great recipe. 😊

We are sprucing up our house on a dime by painting our shutters, and painting our boring white front door a pretty color. Then I am going to make a pretty summer wreath for the door. This will all be under 100 dollars, but give the house a nice facelift.

The weather in New York is too cold to get a starter going. Try when the weather is consistently over 85 degrees. Rye or bread flour is a more potent flour than AP flour for starter. Yes I’ve tried very hard to get a starter to be successful. Mine was a disappointing fail. If all else fail, ask your friends, co-workers, or neighbors to see if anyone has done discard to give you. My daughter’s ex-co-worker gave her some and I have been keeping it alive ever since. In fact, I have given my discards away for other people who asked. Is free and you only need a little bit to get started. I have to declutter, knit, keep my fig trees and herbs healthy this summer so I can reduce my fruits and produce bills down. Thanks for sharing! ❤

I have a ton of clothes that I have not worn in years as well. We will box them and send them to his family in the Philippines. This summer, a few coworkers and I signed up for an 11 week ukulele making class. We just had our third class Friday night and our ukulele's are coming along nicely. The shelf would be great mounted on the wall! It is adorable with so much character. One thing I’ve learned from the Scandinavian countries is to bring things up on the wall (think IKEA storage options for ideas) and reduce storage/clutter on the counter and floor. You are such a ray of sunshine! Thx for all your frugal tips. About the sourdough the water and flour quality is key. Many people take it for granted that the water out of the tap is ok, but many places it is not, so try bottled mineral water. Sometimes tap water is full of chemicals to suppress bacteria...and some flour is made from gmo and pesticide sprayed wheat against which the beneficial bacteria for sourdough won’t stand a chance. If everything fails, please go to an artisanal bakery and ask them for a starter. Good luck with everything I am looking forward to see your homemade loafs of healthy sourdough bread :)

Hi Emmy and Paul! Now that I’m home full time I have a huge list of projects. I’m slowly decluttering. I’m also redecorating my house with re-found items I already have but shoved in closets for whatever reason. Some things I’m moving to different rooms for a refresh. Decorate with what I’ve got! Outside I’m beginning to work on my long neglected dream of a beautiful yard with flowers and veggies. All those working years I just had time for bare maintenance and never got around to creating my own “Secret Garden”, but now I am. I’ve set myself a small monthly budget and so excited to start planning. It will be a challenge with my limited budget but that’s part of the fun. BTW I have NEVER yet been successful with a starter and I consider myself a reasonably experienced baker.

Hi Emmy and Paul! Yet again I really enjoyed your video and found it so interesting to watch. Loved what Paul did with that desk! Just amazing! Also loved the hanger tip for deciding what clothes to keep or not. I did have to smile when I saw all your rolls of wrapping paper, but they weren't as many as the number of mugs I used to keep in my kitchen cupboard! Some while ago I just had to keep our most favourite ones and give the rest to charity. A couple of them I kept to use as a pen pot holder. I now only allow half a shelf in my cupboard for mugs and that's it. How lovely to see Lauris and Dixie by the way. For Summer we have 2 weeks of holiday off work. For some of that time we will be on a walking holiday in Switzerland. Back in our home town we will be enjoying various parks, having picnics and lovely walks. No particular projects, but the usual regular cleaning and tidying to do. I also declutter regularly and don't shop unless I really need something. By the way that food app you use is amazing and that was wonderful that you got so many pizza slices. Fantastic and it's great that you can freeze them and enjoy pizza for weeks to come! Thanks again for such an enjoyable video. I wish you both a wonderful week ahead and may God bless you. ❤😊

The removed shelf would be a great closet or bathroom shelf or wallhung to store all pet supplies and hang collar, leash, etc. There are some great and cheap vinyl tiles you could use for the top surface or fill in the gaps with woodfiller and just repaint it after. A fresh coat of paint will make the full unit look brand new and there are great cheap furniture paints out there where one small can will cover three pieces of furniture so a great money saver. For the summer for us, it will be a mix of working on all the projects around the house we have been gathering items for the past few moths and spending time out in the garden, we got a golf set for free so we will be digging a few holes and create our own fun mini golf course and I will read myself through a pile of books on the sun lounger, heaven...

Thanks for the video, Emmy & Paul! I have some pet-friendly ideas for the desk parts that you removed: 1. If you attach hooks to the shelf part before mounting it on a wall, it could hold Dixie's leash, your keys, etc. 2. If one of the drawers is big enough, put a cushion and blanket in it for a pet bed. 3. If they fit, you could also put caster/ wheels on the drawers for under- the- bed storage. See you next time! :)

And those I buy often don't require wrapping. To save money, I've been watching my portion sizes. Often, like most Americans, my meal portions have been super sized. And portion size has really helped. I just portion out my recipe into the serving sizes and place in individual serving containers.

A friend from church has a 2 acre flower garden and graciously gave us all the flowers we needed to get started. What a dear. In August we are going to Canada and are really looking forward to that. We also just got back from a trip to DC and had a wonderful time. God has truly blessed us with good health and resources to make traveling possible. We love making memories and seeing new things. I'm also in a women's Bible study and a women over 50 luncheon that meets monthly. I must admit that I hate spending money eating out but the time with other Christian friends is so uplifting. (I try to get small plate dishes or a bowl of soup) We also walk, ride our bikes or have friends over. Often instead of a big meal we'll have coffee and dessert. Life is good!

I do almost the same thing with my hangers. I live in Florida and we don't have seasons like y'all do. January 1st I turn ALL my hangers backwards. When I wear something I turn the hanger around the "right" way. Late in December almost all clothes still with the hanger the wrong way get gifted to the thrift store. (It is possible I haven't had to wear something like a dress for a funeral, wedding etc, so I'll give that another year in my closet ONLY IF it fits.)

Loving your delight at the TGTG app. Here in the UK during lockdown in 2020, a local wedding venue branched out to become a greengrocer. When some of our restrictions lifted, they started listing on TGTG and I paid £10 for a mystery bag. I was a bit worried because £10 is a lot of money for something that might not be all that great. I needn’t have worried. We got two large paper bags of organic fruit and veggies, a block of vegan cheese, and a 25kg (55lb!) sack of potatoes! It was brilliant but we were giving away potatoes to anyone who would take them. 😂 I like the TGTG bags from our local coffee shops as they often have sandwiches that I can freeze for lunches for those days when I’ve not been very organised or if I feel under the weather. Loving these videos, thanks so much for your efforts in making them. 💚

I'm late watching this week, but I'm glad I watched today. I have leftover whole chicken and needed something to with it. I think your saucy chicken will be perfect. I have leftover rice too. Just need sauce and veggie. I didn't do a garden this year. Haven't had much luck the past few years. Planning to do another section of our wooden fence. Doing it in stages as we save up the money to pay cash. I have lots of wrapping paper to use up. Since I have grandchildren, I use the same Christmas paper I get 1/2 price, for their birthdays. They don't care. They just rip it open and throw it in the trash.

My working space is also messy...so, now I know how to get going...great video! We have a saying in Sweden, that we are deathcleaning, when you through away and clean out everything unnecessary, so the children don't have to clean out so much when you die. This is a good way to downsize and declutter. That is my goal for the summer...when I'm not gardening...😜👍.. Greetings from Sweden🇸🇪

Nice video. I love when people think outside the box. I would have bought a new desk also or continued to struggle with what I have. Nice job Paul. I just bought a bike from a friend. I live in a rural area and there are so many beautiful places to see. I've been wanting to get in better shape and thought about joining a gym. My friend mentioned the bike and I decided I would enjoy that more than a gym. I've been riding everyday. MI will be heading up to NH in July. My in-laws generously allow us to use their vacation home for free. I'm also going to Lancaster, PA with friends in June for some of the auctions. I really don't need anything, but I love the experience, spending the weekend with friends and of course the food. 😊

Paul to the rescue with your desk conundrum! I have no doubt that between the 2 of you, you will come up with an ingenious way to use what came off the desk….😊 This summer, I want to paint the metal picnic table we have on our deck. The rust is really doing a number on it. My father made it, which is why I want to keep it and get it in better shape. I don’t do gardening, but our younger daughter does, so hopefully she will be sharing some of her bounty with us…😉 Thanks for yet another great video! Sending God’s blessings to you both……🙏 ❤️-Brenda

Great DIY desk redo. Definitely saved $ and you could use the part you took off for something in the future for sure. I plan to use my crockpot and convection oven (air fryer) more in the summer to save $ and energy. That will certainly help to not be heating up the kitchen when it is hot outside. I have a lot of summer shows w/ my band (which I am leaving at the end of the summer to pursue my own solo music and projects) so that will keep me busy and making some $. To relax I plan on doing free or low-cost fun things like going to the beach, going for bike rides, going to some outdoor free concerts and movies, having picnics, etc.
