Oh and I think you were speaking to me about not letting saving money become an idol. Mine is more related to debt and desperately trying to be free of it but I definitely worry toi much about it. Our needs are met above and beyond. I just need to trust God and let it go. It is hard, we too are a single income family. I homeschool our 2 children and we have a small homestead, trying to live simple and below our means. I love our life and wouldn't trade it for anything. Thank you for your encouraging videos. 😊

I was brought up in the 50s in the uk. My grandmother made all her and my clothes. My father made everything that could possibly be made including a four berth caravan which we holidayed in. I had four children, stayed home with them as there were no free places in play schools etc. play schools didn’t start until the 70s. Our mantra then and now has always been make do and mend. I have had this poem on my wall since as long as I can remember. Use it up Wear it out Make it do Or do without. I don’t know the original author, but it’s very good advice.

I just want to say how encouraging your videos are to me. I’m a SAHM to 4 kids and we are also living on one income while homeschooling. It has been so hard, but so worth it. Thank you for making videos!

I'm a SAHW, my children are grown with children of their own. I was raised on a small working farm where we grew & processed 80-90% of what we ate. My grandmother had 15 children & I love putting the skills I learned from both her & my mom to work.... I quilt by hand, sew some of my clothes & alter thrifted clothing to fit, crochet, knit, cross stitch, grow a garden & can, freeze, & dehydrate foods. In January i begin canning meals in a jar, such as white chicken chili & beef stew. I grind our own venison & make stew as well. A way that I save on meat when theres not deer coming in is to buy larger cuts & break them down into what's most usable to me. An example, when there a sale I can buy Boston Butt's at $.99 per pound I then run them through my Kitchenaid metal food grinder & make my own sausage from the same recipe our family has used for generations.Also buying beef roasts when I find a good sale, & cut them into beef stew. Growing up we grew our own pork & beef & processed them ourselves, that is my goal, to be able to do that myself. Get pork fat from your butcher & render your own lard. Leaf lard is valued for pastry chefs. Make your own pickle foods as well. The eggs, we use & if I get overrun, then I waterless them. Like you, I mill fresh mill my flour from wheat berries. Last year, I grew my own heirloom dent corn & mill my cornmeal from it. I would love to have a steer to kill ourselves like we used to do years ago. Make my own butter, & getting ready to begin some simple cheese making. Making my own, laundry detergent, general purpose, window cleaner ,& furniture polish as well. There are always more things you can do to save money, live healthier, & serve the Lord... Hope this give you ideas to help your budget & keep your skills sharp. Have a blessed day!

I love this! Yes to seed-saving (even save them from organic produce from the store) and buying affordable seeds at Dollar General (Dollar Tree, too)!❤

I’m a newer full-time homemaker, and I loved learning some ideas to live more frugally! Thank you! I still work (have my own businesses) some but it isn’t much compared to before having my baby. With that income, I use it to buy things for our home (furnishings and decor) and clothes when I need them but most of it is saved. I’m also of the belief to buy the highest quality items you can afford so that it lasts and you won’t be replacing it quickly, which can cost more in the long run.
@simplylivingmama10 күн бұрын
YES! I use to buy the cheapest thing but learned quickly we spent even more so high quality is always best if possible :)

A handy tip that's worked wonders for me: I invested in buying beautiful bowls. I love colourful patterned morrocan ones personally. I also purchased some beautiful aprons with pockets. Now, when I'm making things from scratch, I look forward to putting on my apron and pulling out beautiful bowls. The apron gets me in the right headspace - like wearing a fancy dress to a ball or when a child plays dress-ups, it just brings a sense of wonder to me. When I'm making food and I see the patterns and colours of my bowls (as opposed to, say, stainless steel), I fill with joy and want to use them more. There is something to be said for using items that you find delightful, inspiring, beautiful, etc. I love bright colours, busy patterns, and earthy materials, like wood and clay/ceramic. When I use these in my home, I don't want to go out because home has my loveliest delights to enjoy ❤

Amen to limiting pre-packaged snacks! From scratch ones are fresher and healthier! I was amazed to find non-GMO corn kernels at Dollar Tree. The bag makes tons (like at least 40 servings) of fresh popped popcorn!

A goal of mine this year is to learn to sew so I can start making some of our own clothes and even mending the ones we already have.
@elsh3328 күн бұрын
I have the same goal 🎉 I was gifted 3 sewing machines, so I'm going to figure out which one I like best and pass on the other 2 to someone else. I have a plan to just play around at first on scrap fabric. Then, I will fix some minor tears and wotnot. After that, I will try making simple things, like pillowslips or bed covers, for my dogs. Finally, I will look at more complex projects, starting simple and increasing the difficulty over time. I feel good about having a plan for how to increase my skills with sewing. It's exciting instead of daunting 😂❤

Love all your tips & am excited for your recipes!! I’ve cut my husband’s & boys hair ALL their growing up years…. Like until they went off to college & then they started cutting their own hair…. Plus making a bit of money cutting hair in their dorm. My daughter & I have both been cutting our own hair for ages too…I just figured it up & it’s been 13 years since I went somewhere to get mine cut.

What ways are you a frugal homemaker?
@debrabritton42310 күн бұрын
I cook from scratch myself. I learned to make it or do without it years ago. I am 60 and i am still that way. Hang out clothes or hang them on shower rod when weather doesnt permit. Buy things i use REGULARLY on bulk. Seed save also. Mend the clothes and sew on a button instead of tossing it. Thirft stores are awesome clothes small appliances. Put clothes in consignment shop and HOPEFULLY sell them and replace clothes for kids or for parents. So many ways to save. I did all these plus and was a single mother of 2 and doing alone(i did get child support that paid for daycare) i was not dependent on government or federal assistance. I worked 2 and sometimes 3 jobs to make it rent and utilities and food clothes. IT IS DO-ABLE...SELF RESTRAINT IS THE KEY. I would love to have been and would LOVE to be now a stay at home wife/grandparent. So MY HATS OFF TO ALL YOU THAT ARE WILLING TO BE FRUGAL AND BE HOMESCHOOL MOMS AND MAINTAINERS OF THE HOME. GOD BLESS YOU. YOU'RE CHILDREN I FEEL WILL BE BETTER AND HEALTHIER FOR IT.❤❤❤❤❤❤ WONDERFUL VIDEO...THANK YOU. CONTINUE THE NATURAL HOME MAKING AND OPENESS!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤

I am a few weeks new to homemaking, so I'm here to learn! Currently, I have a few garden boxes (I'm not a great Gardener) we have a few chickens, and we only go out to eat for special occasions. I'm excited to continue on my homemaking journey. Thank you for your tips and I can't wait to get your news letter!!
