These nucs are building up so nicely! Just in time for winter. Every year we make up a batch of nucs both for you as our overwintered nucs and for our own hives so that we can just plug one into on of our dead outs. It amazing how quickly they build up when they overwinter in a box this small. But, thy truly are hardy and frugal to make it through our Michigan winters. I hope your season is going well, I will see ya soon!!

I must ask as I see it most of the time with beekeepers that have done this longer or have a lot of hives. When putting the lid back on or the brood box, why do beekeepers just slam it back on there and kill quite a few bees? After him getting stung who knows how many times plus them getting squished, i just couldnt do that to my bees. Idk if its a tactic but im still learning! Love your vids

I usually work my bees in shorts, t-shirt, and no gloves. But I ALWAYS wear a veil. If I don't, they usually go for just under my eyes. I can live with getting stung on my hands and arms, but I REALLY hate getting stung in the face.

Im shooting for making over winter nucs next year. I only had one over winter hive and I purchased 3 this year. I ended up catching a couple hives and did a couple splits now I'm going into winter with 9. I have several properties that will host my bees here in western WA so I dont know how many I will decide to level out at. I'm very happy I decided to be a bee keeper (so far).

Keeping bees is a passion of mine The thing I miss the most from when i started was how positive the community was, but these days seems like it's just mostly grumpy people keeping bees hoping to see the positivity and supporting each other make a come back

Hi,in a month, these will be "nuclear bombs" on 5 frames. The bee likes when it is cramped, they behave completely differently. These nuclei will do miracles in the spring. All praise.

@@theterriblebeekeeper7435 I appreciate the persistence and open views towards new methods of beekeeping. I watched the video again, I noticed that there is a lack of pollen and food on frames, there are still a lot of old bees that should have disappeared from hive a long time ago and it is difficult for them to make royal jelly for the brood. Old bee will not die until there are enough young bees in the colony. That's why they are angry. Add food and pollen substitutes and don't look at the nuclei for the next 20 days, the bees will be calm and everything will be fine. BR

@denodkgoro8124 with then being small at the start i was worried that hive beetles may see pollen patties as an opportunity to take over, (could just be an irrational fear of mine) looking into them yesterday and these hives are absolutely thriving now and bringing in all their owm resources, i love the information your brought in this comment and truly appreciate it.

Still with the formic production from oxalic. How much did it produce from a couple of grams of oxalic ? Could you make money on formic production with a vaporizer ? They were hungry and they consumed the brood. Like these bees in the video seem to be. Why keep that giant feeder in a nuck if you don't feed them ?
@theterriblebeekeeper7435
@theterriblebeekeeper7435 Ай бұрын
Giving the space they like some need more frames but not extra room like a step up situation 2- 6 - 9 but you kinda get a feel for how much space is right, so when times comes ill pull the bottom feeder drop stores to each side of the bottom box and leave one brood frame up there and fill in frames two empty framea next to the feeder at the top, I don't like giving them just a ton of room all at once ive learned to see when they are asking for more room, but i feel like the bees tell us what they want. The nucs look amazing when i got into them today and where given more frames.

They look to me like they had at the time of the video just enough pollen for the day and some nectar to survive a couple of bad days without flying. After that they slow down on feeding the brood and if they get a dearth which in August isn't rare the cannibalism on open brood will start over night. I don't know what are you whayting for.. they surely won't draw comb in those conditions. Why not use really thin syrup and make use of those bees who will be dead in no time anyway. I don't get it.. what are you hoping for

His ankles must get chewed up.. i use to be like that i can't anymore after i got bad infection and stung in the eye i refuse .. im starting to wonder why I even own feeders.. i checked those nucs we made gave them 4 lb of Hooterville fondant and its about gone.. they turned it to liquid and drew bunch of white wax .. they do better on the inverted sugar in the fondant those vsh frames of brood refused most of them latshaw virgins even the emergency cells they took down.. so we ended up with 3 latshaw and 25% requeened themselves those yellow vsh strains .. i took bunch of mated queens and ripe cells hopefully they are all queen right next visit.. vp VSH strains just drag out everything that looks different. Never see deformed wing or greasy looking bees in vp VSH colony.. makes them kinda hard to work with.. they do great on the mites but they also eat way more.. trying to get everything the same the same strains. I won't get that done this year . Gota sell it off i guess the yellow strains until price of sugar comes down or kc makes us a sugar maker machine.. we can buy the sugar beets cheap 60.00 for truck full.. can't be that hard.. he can doit .. just think how many one could sell .. go down to the bee expo win first place with it

@@theterriblebeekeeper7435 I'll supply the sugar beats for it bring you a truck load .. I know they shread them like hash browns before they boil them down into syrup then add something cause it to crystallize then spin it. Emily might understand that with her working wine not sure what they add . Maybe we can just use the syrup. You working in fabrication definitely can build it just need to figure out what to build. God's gift right down the road so cheap they use it as feed .

it is absolutely amazing the statements he makes on selecting bees. selecting for stings that make you feel good? selecting for good mating flights? selecting on for not using smoke? All this selection you claim with no offer of any proof of how why or proof that any of it works or why it matters. selecting for certain traits could take many years and your haven't been breeding bees for that long from what I gather. again this is a beekeeping 101 channel and your claiming stuff that does not make sense and mostly is just not true. breeding for traits takes time and evidence and SELECTION, which is a process. I just can't believe he is making these claims and stating these as fact on a how to beekeeping video. the funniest part is stating selecting for temperment then getting stung up few seconds later. which should prove that selecting takes years and is not easy, and there is no way to know if traits get passed on. It's a toss up unless you have a closed mating yard or AI. thats why selection takes time and if you know bee breeding you cant guarentee or make fact claims about anything.

I don't understand the purpose of this video unless it is to show how not to do inspections. I heard several times" they look ok" when he cracked the lid but quickly closed it and didn't check a single frame, etc. How do you know they are ok? Second, this could be very misleading for any new beekeeper. This is not the way to learn to keep bees. Finally, it is very poor to show someone without wearing a veil. He may not like to use one but one sting in the eye and his "bravery" will disappear along with his sight. This is my first time looking at this channel and my last.
