Lovely story time! Yes, in Caribbean cultures there is a lot of cross cultural dating and friendships. I am a Belizean who lives in upstate NY. Many of my catholic high school friends were Spanish and there is quite a bit of marriages of mixed ethnicity in my family. I am black, father from Honduras, paternal grandfather from Grenada, great grandparents on maternal side were Jamaicans. Ho figure!

What an interesting prospective!! It has never came to my mind that an Asian man would prefer black women. I have seen on KZbin AM and BW falling in love because they happened to have met in person, but they usually say they were not looking for a bw in particular, it just happened that she was a bw. I think Asian men and black women have very unique positions in society. Asian men are seen as not man enough. On the opposite end, black women are seen as masculine. The two groups are the less likely to date or marry out side there race and ethnicity. I am happy that you two found each other. I wish you two continued success in your marriage.

Congrats on the 10 years! but his initial myspace message was cringey LOL and im still giving out fake numbers idccc loll I'm a millennial, i was in high school(class of 08) when you guys met, fast forward to now and i turned 30 in oct, in nyc i still think asians only date asians/whites. they still are scared of their parents disapproval or to bring us to meet them. I do not think that much progression has been made with their parents/grandparents racist mindsets.

I worked in NYC 2013-16, and I agree that I didn't see much interracial dating, not nearly as much as around Philly. I think NYC has a much bigger Asian community with a robust social life, so it's probably easy for young people to just stick to the Asian community. And familial/parent approval is still very much important culturally. I was just a rebel and my parents weren't around to watch me like a tiger! I think we should start a mixed couple social club...

Hey Brenda! Good question….we’ve never been super strict about wearing rings. I guess we both always trusted each other to be respectful of our relationship whether we wore a ring or not. Also, we’ve both gained some weight in the past few years and Dafan’s ring doesn’t fit anymore. Since he doesn’t wear one, I feel weird being the only one wearing it if we’re together. I usually wear mines if I’ll be out without Dafan and I don’t want anyone approaching me as if I’m an eligible bachelorette 🤣🤣.
