My wife is deaf. We meet through online dating. In her profile she never said she was deaf. So when we met the second thing she tells me it's she is reading my lips. We had a great first date and really connected, but no signing. Second date was even better, half way through the date she tells me thank you for being so attentive to her being deaf and understanding to always facing her when I talk, and how wonderful I was doing with getting her attention. That is when I surprised her and started signing. My brother was born profoundly deaf and my whole family could sign. She stopped talking and we started signing. The rest is history I like to watch these signing videos so I can practice understanding what and how others sign.

Yalls story is so sweet! It’s really cool how having a neighbor at such a young age was the start of all of this in a sense bc that’s what influenced taking ASL in high school and then bc she knew some ASL she was introduced to him and the rest is basically history from there. I also love how both of their parents had something to say in the passed but years later both apologized and said they were wrong and they seem to really love their son and daughter in law. I also love that her parents and sister took ASL classes to learn to communicate better. No matter if it’s ASL, Spanish, English whatever most of the time the rest of the families don’t even try to learn they just have someone translate for them and that’s it.

Ruken Ice. It takes time, you feel like you have to really focus on each sign to understand it. When I was first learning I thought the same way. I've only dated hearing people and one thing I've hated is them not really embracing ASL or them only using ASL some times. I just don't want to always have to read lips.
@OurSignedWorld6 жыл бұрын
yeah that makes sense. I would not date or marry someone who wasn't willing to really embrace my culture and language as well as become fluent in it.
@Asdfgqedfglo5 жыл бұрын
If someone is dating a person that is deaf and they make no effort to learn the language it shows they don’t really, deeply, care about you. A person that truly cares about someone would take the time to learn the language. They would want to learn, they would be excited to learn. If I started dating someone who was deaf that would be a top priority of mine(to learn sign language)!! I’d want to know everything about the language, the culture, just everything!!!
@JLDReactions4 жыл бұрын
@Lisa Godin Speaking for a person born death is 10 times harder than a hearing person to learn sign language. Our mouths literally form to fit the languages we speak as we grow up hence why people have accents when they learn other languages. Not the same thing at all. I would just learn ASL, and I wouldn't find it mean at all. I would eagerly learn it.
@Jamieforeals6 жыл бұрын
This is so beautiful! I worked as a teacher for the Salvation Army and I had a student that was deaf and mute. She was in my class and I really wanted to be able to communicate with her so I took two ASL classes in college. It was great to be able to communicate with although her communications skills were limited due to a cognitive impairment condition. I knew she appreciated someone in the church besides her family to sign with her. It’s been a couple years and I saw her the other day and I was so sad I had forgotten most of what I’ve learned. I really did love it and wished I would have gotten more involved with the deaf community.
@OurSignedWorld6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience. Most of the time Deaf people not actually mute. They just don't use the voice because they are able to hear themselves. I really loved y'all's story, I subscribed and will definitely watch more videos :) Also, I'm taking ASL right now in highschool and I've loved it so far, it does get hard sometimes especially for me showing facial grammar but it's just such a beautiful language

我全部看完了,透過閱讀翻譯。嗯…我還是想說有個真心愛你、去理解你、明理的原生父母最重要!!無可取代,所以 沒有的話就很慘~ You guys owe great and sweet parents 💞! That makes your relationship are better!這促使你們的關係更好😊 🌅Audience from Taiwan🇹🇼 P.s.my English is not perfect.

My sweetie and I have been together over 27 years, 4 boys (3 grown), I'm deaf with one cochlear implant (and I still have to lipread, sign, or read along, but that's a story for another day), he's hearing, but losing his hearing in one ear, but that's what happens when you get older, blast the music, etc...

I just found ur videos! I love u guys! I fell in love with the language when i was very young and when i went to high school i took all 4 years of asl classes. It was great because my teacher was deaf so i learned so much. But then when i went to college no one in my class was deaf and my teacher was also hearing and didn't know as much so i lost touch. Every now and then i find someone to have a conversation with but i wish i would have stuck with it. I guess its never too late right?!
