you need a stronger wire to secure pins. most people see wire thickness and say ooh its what I need. Nope each wire has been tested for strength so do not buy the cheaper stuff as you get what you pay for.

Put the ring on the inside, it is likely a sheet or other line hooked it . All pins and their respective rings should be installed that way such that , if possible , no lines run over it and can snag it . In your case reverse the pin and put the ring inside by the mast

@@SailingWindTherapy Race boat stuff LOL . Every ring is installed with an eye to not snagging a line . I actually shrink wrap the pin at the top of the forestay so the spin halyard can not snag it . I would not do that for a boat the mast is not down at least once a year though because it can hide corrosion , although I suppose if you pull it off and redo on your annual inspection it would be fine

@@SailingWindTherapy it really was. We're in the process of buying a sailboat and grabbing a mooring ball (and docking) is one of my biggest concerns (I don't want to look stupid 😆). I need one of those poles!

@@mytinyretirement the boat hooks? You need three of them actually for when the non-sinkable piece falls off and sinks in the middle of picking up a mooring (plus another one for a second person). 😀

@@SailingWindTherapy SO!!!! Had my first experience grabbing a mooring ball. It did not go well 😆 . Missed the mooring line and ended up getting stuck in the ring of the mooring marker. Complete shit show. Now it's personal to get this right. Long story short, THANK YOU for recommending getting a spare boat hook...because we ended up chasing down the hook that went drifting away, almost taking me with it 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂
