We’ve been having a major issue with slugs the past few weeks and in this video i will outline now we intend to deal with our slug problem with a few different methods of attack.
We will make a follow up video to this to see if our efforts have had an effect on the slug and snail population and the damage they are doing in our vegetable garden.
Thanks for watching.

Oh man so sorry. Just a few things come to mind as I was watching this. A black light flashlight. I bought one of those to spot green horn worms on my tomato plants at night. Made them easier to find and would be for slugs too I’m guessing. Also are you able to let your chickens free range around your poly tunnel? Bugs of all kinds know when there is a threat. I had a carpenter ant problem on my porch one time. Saw the ants, called the chickens over and those ants disappeared! The chickens were able to eat just a few before those ants ran for cover. If you’re not able to let the chickens out I know slugs are defenseless against salt. Wonder is Epsom salt would work on them? Guess you could catch one and experiment and maybe lightly sprinkle along the inside edges of your poly tunnel. If so maybe Epsom could provide benefit to the soil unlike regular salt I think. Hate that those are invading in such numbers for you guys!!

Thanks Jennifer, I feel the chickens would do more damage than the slugs in the tunnel and garden, I might try so Epsom salt I the most problematic areas. Thanks for the tips

If you can encourage hedgehogs in your garden they will reduce the slug and snail population dramatically, we had a serious problem in our garden tried beer traps to no benefit, but when the hedgehogs arrived they decimated the slugs and snails, walking in our garden was a nightmare of crunching and slipping on them now we rarely see either slugs or snails.

I'm up the road in Tipp, haven't had much slug activity just yet but probably a bit milder by you. I like to leave deliberate hiding places for the slugs like old boards, then turn them over every morning and pick the little demons 😈

Totally off topic. Looking for advice We have a exposed site and my Polly tunnel is being installed at end of month (30x 80 feet tunnel) what would be the best hedging to plant, I’ve considered willow as I’d like it to be useful in some way, I also keep honey bees so can you recommend something either useable or good for pollinators. Based in co mayo

Maybe consider at micro native hedge row wihich would greatly increase the biodiversity in your garden and also be of great benefit to pollinators. Black thorn, hawthorn, crap apple, all flower at different time throughout the season so would be great to include and have add bonus of providing food for birds. You could also include native staples like oak, ash, alder, hazel, all of which can be pruned to make a hedge of any height.

Hey Barry, last year I tried to sprinkle crushed egg shells around the beds or even individual plants with almost no effect. I watched Huw's video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fX2ZZqKOfc6Jhpo which I'm yet to try this year. Give that a go maybe, just to see if it makes any difference
