How We Refurbish A Massive Sign

Media 1 begins the refurb job on the massive Massey Services sign that sat on top of Camping World Stadium for the last 8 years. The LSU Tigers take on the Florida State Seminoles Sunday September 3, 2023 - and we've got two weeks to get the work finished and get the sign installed before the start of the big game!! It's go time!
Measuring at roughly 12' x 32', this sign is a beast - and although it has survived the Florida heat, weather and hurricanes without any significant issues, the paint is a little faded and the LEDs could use an upgrade.
Once the sign was unbolted, craned to the ground, loaded onto the trailer and brought to the M1/WT facility... the fun began! The letters were individually removed, retainers & faces pulled and the LEDs were stripped. Next, the retainers and letter bodies were moved to the paint department and pressure washed, sanded, cleaned, primered and painted official Massey blue & gold (using Akzo Nobel brand paint) and then high gloss clear coated.
The next phase of the job will include installing new technology Hanley LEDs, CNC machining the new acrylic letter faces, wrapping the new faces with 3M perforated vinyl & graphics, mounting the letters to the frame, install wiring & power supplies, loading the finished sign on the trailer, moving it to Camping World Stadium, craning the sign 150' up to the top of the stadium and securing it down to its base.
