I needed this video. My sister gave me two huge aloe Vera plants and I noticed that they were rotting so I put them outside in the sun. Now they are brown and dried up.

Well, my aloe vera survived this winter temperatures range from 0 to -7 with snow for 3 consecutive days. It was outside the hole year , under a patio but the snow with the wind reached the plant. After this hard freeze the plant just loose 3 ĺeafs as they were froze and melted from these temperatures. Then after two weeks and second freeze wave came but I have just put a cloth on my aloe vera . Now it is still thriving and is huge than ever before! So my suggestion is to cover any aloe plant with a cloth or place it under a bulding or in a patio. Just don't let them sit outside exposed to snow and ice because they will melt like an ice cream! I loose 4 aloes whith that way this year! In addition everyone in a cold climate should try the aloe aristata .... Cold hardy to -12!!! Cheers from Greece

Happy to find this. My mom gave me a plant she couldn't ID & wasn't fond of.. it was struggling and she'd tried what she could think of to do.. offered it to me (I'm not a good gardener... she is awesome! But I said I'd take it n try. I think her home/yard is mostly shaded) I started in shade.. it remained sad.. tried getting help IDing it.. fb friends gave me about 6-10 possibilities but none of their plants REALLY matched mine.. I did learn it's a variety of Aloe.. i moved it to one of my sunniest areas.. watered it less often (aside from rain... has good drainage!) .. it has begun showing new leaves! I guessed about the dead leaves - though I instead cut them short with scissors.. ill now try to more fully remove them! Now I think of it.. the new leaves may have really begun to show after i cut the sad ones 🤷🏼♀️ i forget for sure.. seems i now remember i may have wanted to try getting them off to take less of the water and nutrients to see if it would help it in some way.. Anyways so glad I found this video! It does help me feel i did right.. with the leaves at especially! 😃

@ExpeditionHomestead3 жыл бұрын
Trim off any dead parts of the plant and bring them inside if it is still much too cold. You don’t want them to go through another temperature shock so maybe move them in stages from coldest locations of your home first and then gradually moving into warmer locations. Don’t repot or fertilize anything either. The best think you can do is change as little as possible while keeping away from damaging cold.

Can someone help me! My aloe leaves are still very green but some have gone quite flat (not much aloe gel inside) and have bent in half, should i cut these off or can they heal??
@heatherkeathley91242 жыл бұрын
I would go ahead & take them off so they dont continue to pull nutrients away from new growth. Also, adding perlite to your fast draining potting soil at about a 50/50 ratio will help immensely.... also make sure its in a terracotta or clay pot. Nothing glazed or plastic. Hope this helps
@donnaroberts91192 жыл бұрын
Okay, you let the stalk harden off where you removed the leaves. When you go to re pot do you bring the soil level up to the functioning leaves?

I put my aloe outside for 24 hours and it went from beautiful to brown and dead! Reading and it says to never place in direct sunlight because it will burn them. Curious how this lines up with what you’re saying to place in as much sunlight as possible. I destroyed mine this way. 🥺
@arandomcanadian29483 жыл бұрын
Of your aloe Vera turns brown it means that it's adjusting to your environment and if it's green then the adjustment has completed they take weeks or months to complete the adjustment or your aloe Vera is sun stressed or burnt
@natashabanks133 жыл бұрын
Hey! Aloes can take full sunlight, but if they are used to being grown indoors and you put them in full sun without an adjustment period they will get sunburnt and turn red/brown. To avoid sunburn start it off in a shady spot and gradually raise its light level. I have definitely given my poor aloe a sunburn before but it recovered just fine, good luck with your's, hope this helps!
